March 26, 2003Michael Moore at the OscarsI love that Michael Moore did what he did, and I damn sure don't think it was "bad taste" or "not the proper forum" or anything like that. But I think he could have gotten the message across much more effectively. By throwing in all the stuff about the "fictitious election" and what not, his message came across more "I hate Bush" than "I am against this war". And his combative, smirkingly self-righteous tone just seemed out of place, and surely alienated anyone not firmly in his camp already. I love Michael Moore but I've always thought he is clumsy at times, and too often revels in the easy joke or the cheap shot that doesn't really advance his argument. I think this is a case where he should have put more thought into exactly what message he wanted to send, and who he wanted to reach with it. Posted by jsmooth995 at March 26, 2003 3:08 PMComments
I agree...he coulda been more articulate about it. The fact that he said afterwards not to report the boos of the crowd made his speech even less credible. Gotta give him props tho. Posted by: Shehza at March 27, 2003 11:57 AM I'm also annoyed with Mr. Moore for alot of the deception he used to make certain points in his "documentary"...i had no idea that he did that and it makes me lose a little bit of respect for him. But i'm still glad he's out there shouting loudly what many are afraid to say Posted by: Damali at March 27, 2003 4:57 PM Michael Moore is a raving genius! I thought his message was clear.... we need to open our eyes to the reality of our current situation. He's not hiding behind the words of "cunning rhetoric" or "clever slander." He's telling it like it is during a time when most of us can't distinguish between truth and propaganda. Posted by: dmfc at March 28, 2003 1:24 AM i think that michael moore was just a little too excited when he got on stage, and that he probably planned to say a little more than he did. at the press conference after the awards, he did get to get his point across, and talked more about the war than bush, and used a better 'tone'. i'm glad he's out there speaking up for the little guys. i'm just saddened by the fact that everyone that hates him thinks he's a hollywood bigshot, and that hollywood made him like that. i'm pretty sure that winning that award wasn't as important to him as being able to speak his opinion loudly in front of millions of people. some redneck is selling anti-micheal moore stickers on ebay, now. no rednecks knew anything of michael moore before this 'incident'. i think it's great that he's getting lots of publicity. i'm hoping to see him and nader in 2004. they'll get my vote. Posted by: missy at March 28, 2003 5:03 PM I don't know about anybody else, but the way Micheal Moore acted at the Oscars was completely outrageous and unacceptaple. After it was decided that the Oscars were still going to air the Sunday after the war in Iraq had begun, the presenters and nominees were given strict rules on what they could say. The Oscars are not and have never been a political platform to boast ones views on whether or not they like the president or if they think that we should be going to war or not. Everyone else controlled what they said and I feel that it was completely disrespectful to everyone attending and rude of Micheal Moore to be so disobedient and selfish. He may be a great sensational documentary producer, but that gives him no right to be so impolite; he insolently and unethically took advantage of the media. I'm sorry, that was wrong. Posted by: Dave at March 31, 2003 2:07 PM Just to touch on the comment above mine. I think that it was the balliest move i've ever seen anyone do. While all the the fake and plastic hollywood elitist out there are licking each others ass cracks..so they can get the next lead role in whatever, you have a normal guy who could give a rats ass about the oscars or hollywood comes out and actually voices his opinion on what is actually the truth. Posted by: James at April 3, 2003 1:09 AM I agree that it may not be the most appropriate place for Moore to make his comments. But Bush is not listening. Drastic measures are needed and Moore did not give up that opportunity. The world has never seen world-wide protests like the ones that we have seen this year. It's a powertrip to show that the US is bigger than the UN. Was there a vote conducted to see if the american people wanted to go to war? It's THEIR tax dollars, so why not? So this type of democracy wants to establish democracy in other countries? Bombing to prevent bombing CANNOT make sense to any right minded person. It's like a t-shirt slogan I read recently: "Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity". This whole ordeal just reeks of hypocracy and the rest of the world will not stand for it. Posted by: Seb at April 5, 2003 2:22 PM the next time you are faced with a peace activist, i recommend you do the following: my point is, there is no difference in an individual attacking an unsuspecting victim or a group of terrorists attacking a nation of people. it us unacceptable and must be dealt with.. and perhaps at a high cost. we have no choice but to support our military and our leaders at times like these. we either strike back, VERY hard, or we will keep getting hit in the nose. Posted by: Jen at April 6, 2003 9:17 PM WHATEVER! Posted by: blowiturass at April 8, 2003 6:38 PM And I suppose your punch in the nose is considered to be pre-emptive attack on that peace activist...just in case that peace activist gets to outa hand, and....ummm...what?? Holds up TWO protest signs instead of ONE! WHATEVER IS RIGHT!! WHATEVER AND SHUT UP! Posted by: JENS A MORON! at April 10, 2003 12:45 AM Im not sure if that Jen person understands what she just wrote. You mentioned in your last sentence right after your last comma that "or we will keep getting hit in the nose." The "we" part is a little misleading are u compairing "we" as in we the people or as in "we" the protesters..cause the only one getting punched in the nose that I understand is the protester, and who's doing the punching? Posted by: josh at April 18, 2003 1:39 PM i agree with dmfc - i thought michael moore's message wsa quite clear. i'm a little confused about damali's disappointment in moore ... his "deception"? there are no deceptions, no lies in "bowling for comlumbine". investigate the facts. don't just believe what the media puts out there. of course people are trying to make him out to be a liar. he scares the shit out of everyone because he's TELLING THE TRUTH. but if we've learned anything from michael moore, it's to turn off the tv and seek out alternative news sources, if you care to know the truth. Posted by: mac at March 27, 2004 9:56 PM I agree with James, and Jen also made a good point with the activist metaphor and how she associated that with what could be a possibility for the future of the nation. But the association of that metaphor is lost when the target that is at hand (Iraq) has no cooperative link to the original intent (Taliban). Put this thought into mind, in truly fighting the Taliban, the indemnity would be pure intangible and intrinsic justice for those who died on 9.11, the U.S. has nothing tangible or profitable to gain with this, but with the fight in Iraq, the U.S. gains a perfect chance to ploy a war with Iraq and free its people (the Shi'ites) from oppression, while concurrently controlling the oil in Iraq during it's occupation in Iraq. The U.S. is only backing new leaders for that nation that play puppets to the demands of the U.S. But you know what, While this Operation Free Iraq seems like a perfect cover up-as time is passing and the Bush administration is witnissing that its occupation is no longer welcomed, a manifistation is clearly occuring of the unilateralism and indecorous nature of the U.S. This administration just is not running a legitamite war. Every nation seems cognizant of the true motive power of the U.S. The only nation that is not disengaged from the deception is this country, the United States of America... Posted by: rick at June 3, 2004 11:21 PM Micheal Moore is a complete moron and he sucks at life. I'm not a fan of Bush, but Moore let's his veiws control him. His "documentary" is awful and the most bias thing I've ever seen. He's manipulative and he's a liar. He twists facts to suit himself. Posted by: Brandon at July 10, 2004 6:10 PM I would like to let you know we have just visited your website. Very nice site. Posted by: kelly sex at July 23, 2004 8:09 PM Michael Moore was created by the nectar of my nut sack Posted by: bitch at August 4, 2004 6:09 PM Micheal Moore sucks, and I think most of his supporters can really relate to that. Sucking each other is what they do best. But, calling Micheal Moore a good American, is like saying the best American built car is a Volkswagen. Both statements are BS. Posted by: James at August 20, 2004 3:21 PM Wow, it's a shame that this little 'convo' was ruined by some unfortunate inbreds. The fact is that Michael Moore believes that what he is doing is the right thing. And, at the very base of political bullshit, he is right. You cannot just attack anyone, pre-emptively or otherwise, and not have a fucking good reason for it. Bush's reasons for going to this war have been proved wrong. He changed his reasons and now his ass is soaking in the saliva of millions of happy republicans once again. Fuck democrats and republicans, let's just achieve some fucking peace for crying out loud. If George Bush turns it all around and decides that the environment IS actually important after all, and that human life is equally as important whether it be in his front yard or in Iraq, and he does absolutely everything in his power, and in the power of his administration, to make peace THEN he will deserve our thanks and praise. As it stands, he has done so little to achieve any peace and was forwarned of the 9/11 events in a document entitled "Osama Bin Laden is planning a terrorist attack on the U.S." or something to that effect and ignored it. America's defense percentage to that kind of attack was 0. If only their plans of THEN checking peoples bags as thoroughly as they do now was thought to be an important factor in making sure this could never happen before it happened. And it's not as if that wasn't a fucking logical idea. Check people's bags as thoroughly as is absolutely possible. Jesus. And then send thousands of Americans into harms way where hundreds will die. Your neighbour. What a guy. Posted by: George at September 1, 2004 11:35 AM If Mr. Moore has such a problem witht this country, why doesn't he just move to Canada.....Or Iraq for that matter, since it is a wonderful place that needs no intervention from the US. I'll tell you why, because he would be beheaded by the rag-head bastards that he is so loudly trying to defend from the big bad Bush.....dragged from his multi million dollar home and killed in the streets.....for exercising his beloved freedom of speech that he uses to blatantly slam the country that protects his fat ass. By the way....Bravo jen on the punching metaphor.
