I wonder how he feels about being one of a number of homogeneous throwback bands whose names begin with a definite article.

In defence of Jack White, since when is having an opinion so bad? And so what is he dont like Hip Hop...just because Jack doesnt like hip hop, it doesnt mean everyone has to start disliking the guy and his music now cmon...everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. I dont consider his comment a diss, its an opinion so take it for that. And one more thing "nsh girl", hip hop is braggadocius. Thats one of the foundations it was based upon...who was the better person...competition, battling, etc... Whens the last time you heard a rapper saying they were humble?

Who said having an opinion is bad? I specifically avoided making this one of my STFU posts because I didn't think that was appropriate for a statement of someone's personal taste. He has every right to his opinion,and nobody here is denying that.

But just as he has a right to voice his opinion of hip-hop, I have the right to disagree, and to voice my opinion of his derivative, bass-deficient offerings.

Well its misleading when you have as the title, "Jack White Disses Hip Hop". More like it should be, "Jack White has an opinion on Hip Hop". And the first reaction everyone has is backlash...ie. the braggadocio wtf comment and the homogenous throwback bands comment - hence the "jack white has differing opinions so I must voice my distaste in him" attitude I got. Ahh well...beef and petty politics are all that seems to perpetuate hip hop culture nowadays anyways.

Yeah...so hip hop is braggadocious. Does that mean it's not music or that it lacks emotion? Sure...he has a right to voice his opinion, and he does have a right to dislike hip hop, but how does a musician make such a generalization about an entire musical genre? But you know what, why don't we talk about the fact that The White Stripes are garbage (In MY opinion). What was that word? Homogeneous? Yeah...that about sums it up. I can count on my fingers and toes how many songs by "real" rock bands they've ripped off. And "White Blood Cells" sucks.

Ease up Bucks: Don't be silly. You are really twisting yourself in knots to support your boys, if you are unable to admit that he expressed a negative opinion here. A negative opinion backed by several broad blanket statements.

And when somebody makes such blanket statements about something you love, you are going to be bothered by it. You proved right here that this is just as true for you as it is for us, particularly with your sulky final remark.

Jack White expressed a negative opinion of us, and we expressed negative opinions of him. Ours were no more harsh than his, but you are judging ours by a very different standard than you judge his.. because it bothers you that we are speaking critically of something you like. And that's only natural. But you need to get real about that, and step off of your high horse.

Jack's a big boy, I'm sure he can take a few lumps, and if he can't take it he shouldn't dish it out.

Who cares about Jack White and what he said about hip hop? I argue everyday with someone about the subject (i'm pro, he's con). Is Jack White that important in popular culture that this argument must go on? McCartney and Clapton said roughly the same thing in the early-80's about hiphop,"too much bragging, no artistic integrity, etc." These remarks are from guys straight jacked blues songs and whitified them a'la Pat Boone. However, they did move on to do much better as they grew artistically. For Jack White, it remains to be seen, I personally don't like his avantgarde post-punk trash or whatever you want to call it. steve albini said some similar things about hip hop in an ego trip interview. no matter how dope we think hip hop is, i still think a lot of the criticism is valid. hip hop has problems like very genre. rock's problem is that it overly emotional. read what Jack says above and note how his criteria for good music is emotion.

of course, the bottom line is that the white stripes make very good, but exceptionally unoriginal music. and, ironically, not very emotional.
