Morning Radio Shakeup

They canned Dre but kept Ed? That's rough. But quite possibly temporary, it would appear. I wouldn't usually trust the Post, but I had already heard about this earlier so I know it's legit:

Popular hip-hop DJ Doctor Dre was abruptly fired yesterday by his radio station, Power 105.

Dre, who was told after his morning-drive show that his contract wasn't being renewed, won't be given a chance to say goodbye to his listeners. Yesterday was his final show, he was told.

"We greatly appreciate Doctor Dre's efforts over the past two years helping us launch Power 105 [WWPR]," said Clear Channel executive Andrew Rosen, who declined to explain why Dre is history.

"We wish him well."

The heavyset hip-hop DJ honcho and his longtime partner, Ed Lover, were major players on rival Hot 97 (WQHT) during most of the 1990s.

Lover will continue on Power 105 doing its wake-up show with sidekick Monie Love.

Dre, whose real name is Andre Brown, and Lover broke up once before, reunited in L.A., and then returned to New York when Power 105 debuted two years ago.

Dre, a former DJ at Adelphi University's radio station, recently vowed that he and Lover would never fly solo again. "That's my dog and that's how it's going to be until the end of the earth," Dre told Chronic magazine. "We can do anything we want to do, but it's going to always come back to Ed Lover and Doctor Dre," said Dre, who couldn't be reached yesterday.

Hot 97 execs wouldn't comment on speculation that Dre, with or without Lover, might return there and replace Sway — whose morning ratings haven't matched those of Star, his recently deposed predecessor.

It's also possible that Star, currently working in Hartford with partner Buc Wild, could return to New York and join — or replace — Lover at Power...

...Doctor Dre, the DJ, is not Dr. Dre, the powerhouse rapper who has mentored hip-hop heavyweights like Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

Y'all forgot to mention Dre's tenure with Original Concept.. they made some classic records.

remember when they first got dropped from hot 97? the main reason was because everyone there said that dre was super, super lazy and that ed lover was forced to do all the preproduction work, carry the show, etc. they said that dre just wanted yo show up in the morning, talk on the mic, then leave and that ed lover got sick of it. then remember around that time ed lover started doing guest spots on tv shows and hosted that boxing show? and dre wasn't really doing anything? i was actually kinda surprised when they got back together.

Given that I rejoiced when Hot 97 dropped them both and picked up Star and Buckwild and that I haven't listened to any morning show since "That Guy????!!!" showed up on Hot 97, I am EXTREMELY GEEKED that the Haters might make there way back to NYC.
As far as Ed and Dre... Its not the same show without them both... any of u in NYC or the surrounding areas can attest to that fact. I have always felt their show was a bit corny but hey...

Radio hasn't been the same since Star & buckwild left ny radio. i dont even listen to the radio in the mornings anymore. Sway is a retard, wendy talk to much shit, makes you think too much, but star makes you laugh and late for work, this is what good radio is about. Radio is boring without them, well buck (timothy sleeps all the damn time) but its ok cause star does all the talking. ny needs them. I dont care if a classical station pick them up i'll listen to that shit too.

Morning radio sucked since the depart of Star and Buckwild...BRING THOSE TWO BACK!!! I don't get who runs Hot 97, a bunch of idiots. Those two brought the most ratings in radio (sometimes better that Howard Stern) and you can them like that?!?!? If i am Power 105, Ed and Dre (well it was Dre) are a perfect duo, but Star and Buc are a perfect duo that have you running to the radio or holding up anything you are doing just to here them speak. I've been late to work and sent home from my job because of those two. BRING THEM BACK!!!

I think that people need to remeber about radio is that they try to get the broadest demographic and age range they can. I think star & buc were getting old and there ratings started to drop at the end. I hear people say sway is corny but they were in the top 4 I believe right were buck & star was. Ed and Dre just are doing the same old thing people want something new.

Hot97 messsed up when they fired Jimmy Martinez. He made the morning show!!!! Since they got rid of him, the show was madd corny. Star and buck was cool but Jimmy Mar was on his way of blowing the morning show back up. Power 105 should pick up Jimmy Mar

At first I didn't like The "Evil" Star & the "Mighty" Buckwild, but then I got caught up one day and started to understand the method to their maddness. I couldn't get enuff of Star in the morning, which was clear to me when I felt like I was going through withdrawal after a station imposed suspension. Wendy Williams just mentioned on her show that Star and the crew is returning to radio, which is a cool cause Im gettin tired of Howard Stern.

Yo for real the Star and Bucwild show set the standards for how radio should be done. It was creative and innovative and plus they didn't give a fuck about celebs and i respect that. They were about their business and they got the ratings w/o kissing the stars ass. Hot97 made a critical mistake firing them and i hope Star charges them an arm and a leg to get them back. Whereever they go, i go. Until then fuck morning radio.

Hot97 made a mistake letting you go but ct finally has a radio station with real people instead of wannabes on that horrible station 93.7 i dont even listen to that shit anymore.

I missed the show when they said that Prozac girl was leaving. Does anyone know what happened? Did she leave on good/bad terms?

Star is the best. Very smart man and funny at the same time. To some he may be deemed as ignorant, but if you actually "listen" to what he's saying you'd really know what's going on.

Also, I completely agree with all the comments in regards to Sway and 97.1, he so annoying to watch on MTV and even more scarry to hear on the radio trying to be that Ni**a. WACK!!!

I too miss Star, I wish he would come back to NY. I don't think I have listen to my radio simce they left I try, but Ms Envy gets on my nerves and the other radio station sucks. Now WBLS is getting rid of the Doug Banks show, so maybe Star is going to WBLS. I hear Ms. Jones is back on Hot 97, they kicked her out of Philly.

The worst thing miss jones could do for herself is go back to hot 97. That's like a downgrade for her. Hot 97 don't know how to keep a good host. Once people start getting use to there replacements, they they get rid of them. It's time to do some overhaul in management, because it's seems as that's where the problem lies. Ice Queen you need to go. Everytime you enter the studio as if you are babysitting children. As a matter a fact, so far after Star & Co Sway and company without Info was the best. Think about it.

S&B are interesting. I still do not know the exact detials on there departure form Hot 97. As mentioned before, they are on in Hartford. I think that stations fades out once you reach Bridegport or a little after. People in Hartford cannot get the NYC stations, but people in the 203 can get both. Some have told me that they can get it in th BX. I tired but it did not work form me.

We need to do something about these stations playing the same shit over and over again for money, not because it is a strong song...

It has to be a legal issue with star and buc coming back to nyc, like my man will-ski said, this is the largest morning radio market in the country and star is the best radio personality i've seen. that mother-fucker brings so much controversy its funny,stupid,and most of all true to some degree.He crosses the line alot-but that why real niggas listen-you never know his ass is giong to say next. All morning radio is sort of whack!! Like punk-ass ed lover. Ms. jones is OK- BUT the show needs a different direction its whack. Bring the undisputed champs back in Star and dumb ass buck. Get that money baby!!!!

Philadelphia is not New York so u have to be careful what you say I am gonna make it brief and to the point In New York you can talk about black people and hispanic (puerticans) and they wont take it the wrong way but in Philly it is a raciest town I am a 27 year old puerto rican from spanish harlem 120st wagner project and since i left New York i have thought of your program and nobody has compared to it so i dont want u getting dropped or sensored so take concern in what you say and tell that puerto rican Miguel to stop being a Bi**h cause he is an embrassement and Buck wild make of course 6 figures for not doing anything, (thats a beautiful thing im not hatin) but he needs to step it up cuz i have followed you guys since the beginning from sh*t 97 til now and im felling the show buit if you keep on the raciest tip you gonna get shut off

I never get to fully enjoy your show because I live in the Pocono�s and the reception sucks. However, I do catch it for about a half hour while driving to school and all I can say is DAMN you are definitely a bit controversial but I enjoy the fact that you tackle the issues that others shy away from. You say what most people think of but don�t have the audacity to say. Although, the Caucasian female that accompanies you on the show needs to be replaced for many reasons. If she is solely there to balance the racial percentage on the show, I say keep her. Otherwise, cut her loose, she is a poor portrayal of women and I am actually offended by the fact that she allows herself to be disrespected by being named white trash. This only elevates the ignorance of some men to continue to demean women. Remember the majority of your listeners are of minority descent and we need to educate (by any means necessary) them on not only issues but on the manner of how they should treat one another.

I miss the hell out the the star and buc wild morning show.Everyday i went to work i had his show on.he had me laughin my mutherfuckin head off.I was mad ass hell when they took it off the air.Them cats on hot97 in the morning are fuckin bullshit.they try so fuckin hard to copy star and buck's style.It's fuckin pathetic.please hurry up and come back to nyc.i'm missin that.ayo star we go back to the days of around the way connection magazine baby the little spot on nostrand ave me and my dog ben(Q)used to hang there. those were the fuckin days.
