It Was Twenty Years Ago Today..
Well, this month anyway. While researching my grammy picks this year I came by the complete list of winners from 1984. I'm surprised by how well I remember and like almost all of them (excluding Stevie Wonder's worst song ever). Compare that list to the '85 awards, when levels of crappiness had skyrocketed.

can't believe Shannon - Let the Music Play didn't win Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance - Female... that has to be one of the best double-A-side singles of all time. the arrangements are so ballsy. they hold back on the hook until like 2 verses and a bridge have already gone down so by the time it hits the whole dance floor is like simultaneously orgasming, yameen?
so many people have passed away since then! wow.
I can't believe that stupid pointer sisters song won. ew.
true enough but he has plenty of worse songs. i mean, it's pretty bad, don't get me wrong, but have you heard the theme song to the outsiders "stay gold"? yuck. (and i think that was before "i just called")
Woah . . . Wendy O. Williams nominated for a grammy? LIke, Plasmatics, chopping-dudes-dicks-off-in-effigy, riding-on-a-tank-with-electric-tape-over-her-nipples - THAT Wendy O. Williams? The Grammys really have lost their edge.
Check out down the list for '84, Best Comedy Recording. Weird Al beating out Richard Pryor and, thankfully, Rodney Dangerfield's "Rappin' Rodney."
Some crazy stuff buried in there too. All the R&B categories are tight.
