Note to Mel Gibson: Comment-Spam is Not Christlike

I heard this morning on TV that they have already sold $10 million of prepaid tickets, mainly bought by churches and church groups. I'm sure it's one of those ill-advised groups, probably trying to get as many people as possible to go see the movie, hoping that it'll either strengthen their faith or convert them.

This was on the front cover of today's NY Post:

"I Cried". - Audience member who saw the movie.

I was laughiing when i saw that.

I have received one of these damn things. Gods, it is annoying.

Same here... sad to say I actually got into it before discovering the truth. That damned kid. He's prolly some student who needs a collection of opinions for a school essay or something of that sort.

i've done a bit of research, and the address that the "person" is sending from is actually located in Bangkok. this affirms the notion of a paid-for spamvertisement.

Interestingly enough, I also got one, did a WHOIS on the IP address that LJ logged for me, and got Norway.

I'm curious enough to send a note to the distributors and ask about it. Of course, I'm sure they'd deny it, but still. It's an interesting (and annoying) way to plug your film, I guess.

This spam is software-generated. It usually ads a little line about the entry's "current music" and "current mood". However they have neglected to update it and it keeps saying that the film is released in a week's time when in fact it has already opened...

Count me in. They got me, too.

My wife has a theory that they did a Web search for "Lent," which I mentioned in passing.

The Passion of The Christ is in theaters soon - this week on Wednesday.. what do you think about this movie? I'm going to see it for sure - the trailers were enough to convince me. I read somewhere that it's the widest opening ever for a subtitled movie; I have a feeling subtitles won't detract from the full effect of this movie though. After looking at the trailers which have no subtitles or english at all, it was reinforced for me that lack of spoken english in this film won't hurt one bit. To sum up my impression of The Passion: it's a work of art.

Another fascinating aspect to this movie is all the controversy that has been generated about it.
Some people, not really representative of Jewish people, but rather self appointed Jewish spokespeople, such as Abraham Foxman from the Anti-Defamation League, seem to have been attempting to denounce this film for months as being anti-Semitic. The news reported that they even stole the script last year! But here's what some Jews say (Jews who don't make it their job to tear apart other people): Protesting Gibson's Passion Lacks Moral Legitimacy by Rabbi Daniel Lapin.

Nice to see some people speaking rationally.
