Yeah, Jay, I totally agree here. The best way to make a movement progress is to join it, not cut its throat by making your own. Honestly, I think Rev. Al is just doing this for personal shine. He easily could have gotten down with Russell Simmons or another group.

Jay, I remember Jeff Chang's stance on celebrity vs grassroots- he likes both of them. And so do I. What the hip-hop activists are doing on the ground is neccesary. And what Sharpton is doing can take to another level.

Sharpton doesn't need thousands of signatures to get the FCC to pay attention to this. All he has to do is make a phone call.

It's up to the grassroots people to use this spolight in favor of THE ISSUE, and avoid any hateration on Sharpton which will distract from the real goal.

Also, it doesn't seem like Sharpton is "asking the government to step in and regulate hip-hop artists." In the article you link to he says he's wants to go after the companies who profit from this violence, a savvy position me thinks.

I hope you and Davey D consider what I'm saying and try to engage Sharpton's agenda, rather then denounce it.
