Maybe I Just Don't Get British Humor
Speaking of Live 8, what's up with this this review in the Guardian:
For all the fuss about the lack of black faces on Live 8's bill, rapper Snoop Dogg somehow contrives to seem incredibly inappropriate. He never mentions the concert's aims, preferring instead to raise the watching world's awareness of Snoop Dogg. "Wave your motherfucking hands in the air," he yells. "Wave the motherfuckers like you just don't care." Given that caring is rather the point of Live 8, this suggestion seems unsuitable at best...

Wouldn't it be nice if the hip-hop and rap artists that actually have something intelligent and articulate to say on a variety of issues actually got as much exposure as those like Snoop, The Game, or 50 Cent who never seem to have much of anything worthwhile to say. So Snoop embarassed himself on a global stage-it's not exactly a big surprise.

I agree with enough_already, but I'll take it one further: every time I see Snoop on TV, or hear him on the radio, or see him in public, it seems that EVERYTHING he does and says is innappropriate in the context of the moment. And, to top all of that, he nevers seems embarrassed by his behavior.
I respect that more than all the sanctimonious charity acts who played Live 8-- didn't anyone remember that the original Live AID money ended up in the hands of the tyrants who run these poor African countries into the ground?
Speaking of the original Live Aid, I don't recall if RUN-DMC made any mention of the cause while they performed. However, they did mention it in a later rhyme: "walked onstage/ at Live Aid/ all the people gave/ and the poor got paid" or something like that.
So, which is more embarrassing-- Snoop not trying to make an effort to seem like he gives a fuck, or RUN-DMC armed with good intentions and no clue as to what they were really contributing to?
