Stating the Really Really Really Really Really Obvious

  • Our discussion on WBAI last Saturday about Bush, Kanye, Katrina and the "women and children last plan." Also the entire 2-hour show is here, with Geraldo, Mayor Nagin and others woven into the music mix.

  • Soul Imperialist's list of tips on how to avoid the racial dimensions of the N.O. tragedy

  • John Scalzi's "Being Poor" - A surprising number of people severely need to read this.

  • Jay-Z backs Kanye, as do TI and David Banner. (Interesting that there was no similar rallying behind his stand on homophobia)

  • Leaked internal memo removes any doubt that FEMA head Michael Brown is a monumental a$$hole.

  • But before you try to tell me this is FEMA's fault not Bush's, study up on how the Bush administration systematically wrecked FEMA, and reduced it to the cruel joke we're seeing now. Ask not for whom the buck stops, Dubya.

And come on people, if even the fug yourself crew is stepping up with the charity, you know you can dig something out of those pockets. Talk to your business manager.

Ah, the blame game. The fact is, the leaders who were supposed to LEAD, didn't. They weren't fit to lead in the first place and they shouldn't have been voted to be the leader of the people in the first place. Look at who you voted as the president. The rest? is history. Katrina? Simple mission. You find a safe route, you get police, soldiers and doctors with massive amounts of medical supplies, MRE and water. Take care of the injured and evacuate everyone to a safe zone. The government who takes 40% of working man's pay every month for the reason of country's well being, doesn't do anything for the people of their own when it's actually TIME to do so. You know what Katrina is to politicians, it's just another great photo opportunity.

Another important reason FEMA didn't do the hurricane survivors much good is that FEMA IS NOT MEANT TO HELP YOU.

In the 1980s there was a firestorm of concern about FEMA when various documents were leaked. It was set up with minimal disaster relief capacity (and didn't really get much better under Clinton) but absolute, unchecked authority to detain U.S. citizens, take control of all businesses, utilities, etc...in short, it started out as nothing but a mechanism for implementing martial law, and they were thinking of urban riots rather than natural disasters.

Remember Ollie North? Google "Oliver North" and "FEMA" together to see what they're really all about. (bluntly: mass detention, curfewing, the confiscation of legal personal firearms, and barbed-wire "refugee" camps)
