Our Easter Shame

A few weeks ago I picked up the NY Times on the subway, and it had this infomercial insert full of faux news articles about "Sudan: The New Happening Hotspot! Things Are Looking Up!" and so on. The sort of "doth protest too much" happy-face advertising that you know must have some evil creepiness behind it, even if you know nothing of the subject matter. In my pre-coffee haze at the time, I thought to myself "wait, doesn't the Sudan have a sort of, uhh, genocide thing going on?"

So for those who may be in a perpetual pre-coffee haze, such as our Chief Executive, here is a reminder: There is, indeed, a sort of genocide thing going on over there. And it's getting worse. And we are doing nothing.

President Bush and millions of Americans today will celebrate Easter and the end of Holy Week. But where is the piety in reading the Bible while averting one's eyes from genocide? Mr. Bush, how about showing your faith by doing something a bit more meaningful - like standing up to the butchers?

Jay,
What would you recommend the United States do?

Let them fools in the Sudan know that we watching them, or send people in there, the UN are as much to blame though, I have no idea what Kofi Annan does to be honest.

FYI,
President Bush openly declared that Genocide is occuring in Sudan, which is more than the UN has done. Sudan has said that they would view any peacekeeping/intervention force as an infringement on their sovereignty. They're not just going to let peacekeepers, US or UN, get involved in their conflict without using force against them. US forces are streched thin as it is - maybe you should be asking the other 189 states in the world why they aren't doing something.

I am asking them! I'm asking everybody. I merely used Bush as an example because he's the one who represents us.. Bush has indeed very recently started to urge more action from the UN et al, after far too long "dragging his feet" and "sausage-making" as the most recent NY Times editorial put it.. and as far as I'm concerned, this only counts as talking a good game, from the guy who supposedly declared "not on my watch!" when looking back on Rwanda..

Just as in Rwanda, there is more than enough blame to go around.. but my first questions will always be for those who were elected to serve me..

i agree with you, jay. and ellen: i don't think we "should be asking the other 189 states in the world" anything at all until we (the US) put forth some kind of effort. the US is the world's largest economy; with that title comes responsibility. we wage war with the middle east in the name of that responsibility, but when any real need of assistance comes about, we assess what it is we have to gain from assisting, and in many cases, as in this situation or rwanda, there is (in our eyes) nothing to be gained, and so we do nothing. it's disgusting

and by the way, iraq has voiced its desire for us stop interfering, but that hasn't stopped us from going about our agenda.

Don't you know daddy-o? Its not genocide! Its "ethnic warfare" I mean how more Orwellian double-talk can We The People &(*^@# take. Its getting to the point where I'm just loosing my mind and laughing at these headlines!

Ok...

Its called Good Cop (UN) bad Cop (Uk/US). Shit you don't think the UN is involved with forced sterilization, mass graves, rape-as-weapon? the bigger the government the bigger the problems. And whats bigger than the UN? THE UNITED NATIONS WILL NOT SAVE US. If y'all don't think that's who's behind all of Sudan's problems in the first place you need to take the RED ^&@#$*( PILL! What's the UN/US the best at? Solving problems? Or stealing land from native and Arab herdsmen? Should we ask history?! Shit, what did government do for Katrina victims? Anyone who paid their taxes just donated to the raise of those murderers...

I mean African Christian and SPLA vs. Muslims? Does this seem vaguely familiar to anyone else? More polarization more Christ vs. Mohammad and I'm pissed on them pissing on both prophets. We don't fight with one another...but the UN starved us like rats...shoved us in a cage together and shook us up...

Its like what the Crowns of Holland and Spain and Britain did to the natives of this land...and continue to do to us to this day (if you think royal families don't rule the U.S. read) pit them against eachother...the UN doesn't have the resources to slaughter these folks so they pin them against eachother. When all is said in dead no one will be alive, everyone will be broke.

Like divorce. So don't get divorces people, you're just making the man richer. Even if you hate eachother just don't involve gov't...see its the same shit on all levels 'cos it works so damn well for 'um.

everyone should make a point to read:
Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century A Report of the Project for the New American Century September 2000 to understand why and who planned the WTC attack and why/who wants permanent bases all over this world. Its right there, signed by all these monkeys is corporate and Washington offices...go ahead, read it...I dare ya...

This is absolutely unacceptable and we need to put about 90% of all these government officials on the stand for treason. And in my book Citizen's can still make arrests and treason is still punishable by death. So should we release the inmates before or after that 'cos if Chinese surf-farmers can stand up against tanks with rakes and shovels then we can take a lesson from them and get these (*&@#^%&*@# the hell out of our bedrooms. In the words of Col. Craig Roberts, Any blue helmet steps in my neighborhood and he's getting a .38 between his eyes. period.

Someone wanted an answer to the issues in the Sudan? Arm those families now! Pipeline to Sudan now! Snoop in the underground you'll find someone to put you to work.

Whew, that UN fires me uP! I'm going for a run...
