PHOTOS: Immigrant Rights Rally, NYC 4/10/06

maybe I'm wrong for saying this but I'm going to say it. How can immigrants get rights?! I'm really really curious about that. I consider myself an open minded cat...but tell me any country that would open their arms to immigrants and then we can discuss about giving immigrants rights. Would Japan, Germany, or Italy do this?! From what I've seen from personal experiences it's no. It's not a no, but a no and get your ass back to where you are from no. But I'm posting this up because I need some opinions from people that uses this blog. If people have valid information then I might be persuaded to see another point of view...this is what blogs are for right?!

um...yea, you're quite wrong. see my dad is an immigrant, but he's been a citizen of this country for over two decades now. and do you mean to tell me that he, a citizen, should not be entitled equal rights to that of any other citizen? i think you don't have a clear understanding of the term 'immigrant'... and actually the US is THE toughest country in the world to obtain visas or citizenship to, especially if you're not white. i'm not gonna get into whether or not it should be that way; i'm just throwing that out there.

a few things... the third world is not "fuckin great" and that's WHY they come here. yo Emily: this isn't about who owns the land. sure, a lot of these immigrants are here illegally - somewhere around 20million. but its not right to just send them back to where they came from, especially because they probably would not have been offered visas if they went about migrating here legally. a lot of these people come here starving and jobless, and instead of helping these people out, congress is in favor of making it harder for them.

and i don't know of any immigrants who "work for their citizenship" that are "pissed off" at the immigrants at these rallies.

If they were here legally I could see giving them rights. However the main word is illegal. If you are illegal how do you get rights. Pay taxes like other Americans do. Stop sending your money home to "your country:. Your country wouldn't let us send money to our country. Pay into a system and maybe you could get something out of this country. when you protest for rights why are you carrying your country's flag and not the flag of the USA. You want the benefits of being American without being American. Speak the language of the country (English.) But it is so convient to "Speak No English" when your are in trouble. After you consider these things and decide that you truly want to be American that's when we should give you the rights of fellow Americans.

i'm trying real hard to understand your stance, emily(no sarcasm intended). so correct me if i'm wrong: you're saying bush wants these illegal immigrants here and thats why these riots haven't been stomped out. i'm gonna have to disagree. gwbush is one of the most racist personalities i can think of. but you're saying that he doesn't really care about these people (agreed there) and he sees some way of using these people. i don't see how. you outlined it a bit, but the expenses the immigrants present outweigh anything bush stands to gain from them. they (excuse me for generalizing here) come here with nothing, therefore they have nothing to offer this economy.

i'll say again: true, they are ILLEGAL immigrants. but look past that, and see the reason why they're here in the first place. think hard about it, and you'll realize that the problem starts with the US, and our racist, hard-assed foreign policy. have you got any idea how hard it is for a person trying to emigrate from the third world. nobody wants you. and the US is the world's largest eceonomy, but all we do is spend money on killing people and electing people. just a little bit of that green could go a long way if we admitted more people into this country, shared a little bit.

What Hell has this country come to! Flooded with third world poverty in less than 10 years? We cant even take care of our elderly and our poor, and yet illegals have the gaul to protest for rights??
