Rare Radio was amazing last weekend, does anyone out there have all of them archived? Anyone willing to trade? Posted by: Pez at June 21, 2006 10:55 PM Yo. Monk One this is ya sickest mix yet! I'm listening to this while in the office so I'll dip back in here and there with titles. But yo, knock him out sugar ray (on the dc go-go tip) get me back on time papa was too the age of aquarius/let the sunshine in n.t. (i forgot this had a drum break. I always use it for horns breaks) heaven and hell yo, monk one, would I be in violation if I tell these dudes what record collection these breaks come from? (hint: 26 records) anyways, this set is fuckin rockin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was in 98 right? I wonder how do he and the other pioneers feel about these mixes. Has anyone heard like a statement from those guys? or is just spinning the records not the same as putting out a collection? I wonder what's thier take on this sort of thing... -Black People Posted by: Black People at June 22, 2006 3:21 PM slippin into darkness (obviously) but this ain't the war version Posted by: Black Peope at June 22, 2006 3:29 PM Heard ya voice at the end of the set, Smooth. The way you was being naive about real hiphop (or the finest in hiphop as you put it) and bashin KRS a little while back, I was startin' to think you wuz white. Hearing ya voice set things straight. Thanks for the set. Out. -Black People Posted by: Black People at June 22, 2006 3:35 PM Hey BP- Posted by: mwon at June 22, 2006 4:29 PM no doubt, incredible mix. wish i had more time for some ids. got avalanched with work. maybe i'll come thru in a bit. good to see BP on it. Les-Boogie with the cleanup? Posted by: Eric Nord at June 22, 2006 5:22 PM Oh ok, Mad respect for havin' the originals makes this set even more classic. I was wondering what the greats thought. You 'member when primo did set it back in the day tho right? and pete rock was fuming over that pete's treats bullshit. Please keep up the real, Monk I appreciate it. Ay yo, what are the drums on Give the drummer some (ultramagnetic)- and teachers don't teach us nonsense And rat bastard by prime minister pete nice as well as time to flow by nice and smooth. all of these jawns use the same drum break but I can't find it! I was thinking it's that "there was a time" jawn on the james brown gettin down to it album But I haven't put it in my sampler to test the theory out. I think the drums are somewhere else. Can you help a young G out? My gift: http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/7397.html Peace and thanks again, Posted by: Black People at June 22, 2006 6:09 PM BP -- HEY! I'll be running game on the Railroad this saturday night, stay tuned!! bless the listeners >> djOneman Posted by: oneman at June 23, 2006 2:19 PM Hey Thanks Oneman!! But I have that album (on the cover it looks like JB is sitting in a cell) it has everthing on it i listened to it over and over and it's on UBB # --I forget which number but it's the one with Ashley's roachclip on it. But it ain't on that song. I know that's what some of those websites say that it is but I've listened to Funky Drummer repeatedly. On Give the drummer some by ultramagnetic, I'm not talking about the chorus when they cut "g-g-g-give the drummer some of ths funky soul we got here" I'm talking abou the basic drums that run through the whole song. The beatminerz used them again for Poppa Large. Any ova suggestions? In fact on that CRAZY Lord Finesse mix on Monk One's page Lord Finesse cuts up the give the drummer some break but you'll see those aint the drums. Thanks and good lookin' out. What other jam you think it might be?? A young brother need some hizzelp. -Black People Posted by: Black People at June 23, 2006 6:18 PM Yo Oneman, First I just listeded to the beats on ya page. number 4,6,12,15 are all rockin' number 13 is A SUPER ROCKIN MEGA CLASSIC!!!! I don't know what you were doing at the end with your sampler if you were like playing around or something. But when you let that shit rock, it's bangin'. Yo they used to have this thing in Philly called the beatsociety (dopest invention ever - peace to stef tataz) where producers would bring their weapon of choice (sp1200, MPC 60-200XL, KORG Tritons, ASR10s) through and just catch wreck for the crowd playing their beats. Early on Kanye came through and rocked some of his harder shit this was before his first album. but yo, number 13 on your page should have some sort of exposure. at least like that. second, I need the name of that record. Back in the day when the links on this page worked and it streamed the old shows, you had spun that record with the fat bassline, flutes and all and I was like what the fuck?? WHat song is this??! Yo, can I get a name on that record? Look out for the cookout. And of course I come bearing gifts. Here are some gems you might wanna pick up. David T. Walker - Plum Happy Jai Santooshi Maa Soundtrack - I forgot The Mighty Mellow #3 - Various Out. -Black People Posted by: Black People at June 23, 2006 7:02 PM DAMN! I am straight bangin number thirteen right now! I hate to think that there are beats out there that I can't buy let alone even hear!! Yo Smooth, but yo, take note everyone: number 13 on one man's page is a real hiphop beat. -Black People Posted by: Black People at June 23, 2006 7:14 PM This mix is off the hook.!! Peace Posted by: Martin Jay at July 3, 2006 4:59 AM Martin Jay & BP have definitely come thru on this one. Very impressive, especially with the Mad Dog & the Pups (didn’t think anybody would get that one) and the William Stuckey (same). As a thanks-for-listening treat, here’s all the ones you all didn’t get. Well, almost all. And yes sir, these are most definitely all originals. No UBB!!! No Dusty Fingers!!! (except mine) Keep Diggin’ ---------> monk _ 1. Johnny Pate - El Jardia Posted by: mwon at July 5, 2006 1:59 PM Hey BP- Those "Give the Drummer Some" drums are notorious. Where are they from? Supposedly, Paul C. isolated them from the right channel of a stereo Dee Felice record. As oneman noted, he also dropped a little bit of "funky drummer" in for sabor (the drum roll). Still, it's a bit of a mystery. I don't have a stereo Dee Felice (mono version has no open drums) so i can't check. Pete Rock told me a couple years ago "I still don't know how he got those drums". For the definitive Paul C. story, written by the un-duplicate-able legend Dave Tompkins, check this link. Absolutely necessary knowledge for the advanced digger: Posted by: mwon at July 5, 2006 2:13 PM Thanks for filling in the blanks Monk, I will hunting down quite a few of those joints for sure. Posted by: Martin Jay at July 11, 2006 9:59 AM AHA!! I though that what it was. It's not on the Dee felice album it's on the jab jawn it is in stereo I guess paul c must've done that then threw it on one those bet comps like that dude from england used to have. you know what I'm talking about? but yo the jb album is "Mr James brown getting down to it. and the last cut is there was a time. you can get a copy anywhere. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009V1FPE/103-1436106-5862246?v=glance&n=5174
good looking out! -Black People (I'll try it slow it down and see if it works) Posted by: Black People at July 11, 2006 3:02 PM Yo I always wondered who he was and why he was on the follow the leader album. now I know. good looking out Monk one thanks -Black People Posted by: Black People at July 11, 2006 3:55 PM Yes indeed. Thanks to Dave T. for the great research and writing. I know he's still working on the Paul C. story so stay tuned... Martin Jay I'll be in the UK in October. Would love to get to Aberdeen. Hit me up on the email. Posted by: mwon at July 11, 2006 11:26 PM |
