February 27, 2007VIDEO: Station Announcement from AtlantaMainly because I needed an excuse to do that cool fade-in from the photo. Posted by jsmooth995 at February 27, 2007 3:40 AMComments
sounds like you're really enjoying your time in the south. try not to be jealous of all the snow we're dealing with in the northeast! Posted by: Susana at February 27, 2007 10:14 AM What's up man? Hit me up sometime if you need some help doing audio work (interviews, etc.) for your Atlanta material. I have mad capabilities. Peace! J. Posted by: jamie radford at February 27, 2007 11:57 AM Like the content of these vblog things you're doing; don't like the delivery. Somehow you've decided on this edit-after-each-sentence, bugeyed and raised eyebrows thing. And you're trying too hard to be cute and clever. Posted by: peanut gallery at February 27, 2007 1:02 PM I actually really appreciate the criticism, though I think it's kinda lame to offer it without identifying yourself. :) I agree about the edits on this one, I didn't like the pacing once I was done with it. But since I'm figuring out as I go along how I want to use the medium I'm gonna just post stuff and apply what I learn to the next one, rather than do it over. I'm happy with the editing on the others. The rest is a matter of taste I suppose! Posted by: Jay Smooth at February 27, 2007 2:36 PM i think there funny. . . Posted by: trusouth at February 27, 2007 7:47 PM You know what, it's not you- it's the format- this vblogging. All of you vbloggers need to take 3 steps back from the camera. I don't want to be that close to you in real life..nor the virtual one (not you Jay, I think you had a lovely background on this one). And one positive criticism I left out- unlike 99% of the vblogs I see, you collect your thoughts and construct pithy, cogent 'paragraphs'. Everyone else is wasting my time with these slow-scrolling intros and the , "You know...lately...I've been wondering...so I thought I would make this video...." (zzzz) Posted by: salt peanuts (aka peanut gallery) at February 28, 2007 4:36 AM yeah, i think the close-talking is mainly a sound issue, most camcorders only record decent audio if you're right in front of them (and even then barely decent).. i've only seen people step back when they have a budget for external mics (rocketboom for example). Posted by: Jay Smooth at February 28, 2007 10:39 AM Jay, I've been thinking about the issue you raised for some time now. We have this great big new media megaphone...now, what will we do about it? Posted by: Hashim at February 28, 2007 3:25 PM i disagree with "peanuts" -- i like the clever edits, etc. makes it seem smart and professional Posted by: jamie radford at March 1, 2007 10:50 AM Man, I really dig your videos. Posted by: Nathan Miller at March 2, 2007 5:35 AM Man, as far as the criticisms, i like the cuts, and the sentence editing. I think youre pretty tasteful with it. And since, im actually in atlanta working with you i see, how much work goes into these things, and how little materials you have. Hell you JUST bought a better camera while we were here. I also, think the cuts and edits, keep me interested. It jars me just enough to stay involved. The subject matters are always interesting and usually pretty damn clever, but the cuts, to me, make it all cinematic, which i like. (personal taste). It shows a little artistry and that your not just some internet geek who thinks everyone wants to hear his opinion, instead you make more of like a cinematic commentary. Its the "cool" factor. its necessary. in like six months once you master everything, you'll be untouchable. indeed. Posted by: Jason Reynolds at March 3, 2007 3:53 PM The camera style and frame up you used was tight. It allowed me to take a look around and be drawn in. As we move. - Distrakt Posted by: Distrakt at March 4, 2007 9:16 AM yo--just sent you an email about some cool events going on in atl this weekend--hollar at me! J.
