April 14, 2008Alicia Keys: Tupac Biggie Gangsta Rap Conspiracywhy alicia keys is the new reverend wright Everyone is acting all shocked at the Blender cover story with Alicia Keys in which she expresses a belief that gangsta rap was invented to keep black people killing each other, and the Tupac Biggie feud was orchestrated to eliminate the chance of a great black leader popping up.. The facts may not support these theories, but is it really so crazy for her to be suspicious? People are way too judgemental. All you latte drinking hip-hop elitists from the creative class, trying to throw Alicia Keys under the bus. You should be ashamed.
Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled “by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing.” Keys’ AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: “She wears what? That doesn’t sound like Alicia.” Keys’ publicist said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.Posted by jsmooth995 at April 14, 2008 7:52 AM Comments
Exactly. Well said. If anything I have an increased sense of respect for Alicia after her statements. Posted by: Shaolin at April 14, 2008 9:49 AM Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and beliefs. That is the problem that many have with the media and the major misunderstanding the media has with the public. Freedom rings....our voice is what we have to let the peers and the rest of the world understand who we are verbally...so what she wears a ak necklace...who is criticizing the dope boys for wearing weed emblems or other assult rifle emblems on their necklace....I feel rap music is a story that many tell about their actual life, lives and now lifestyles...as well as a story that others tell because it sounds good.....can we all just live peacefully...don't you think Bush and Bin Laden has caused enough confusion here in AMERICA "the great land"....get at me.. Posted by: kasha at April 14, 2008 12:06 PM I am really glad that she gave that interview. The world needs to know what a freaking idiot she is. And as for her fans. Who do you think has been buying her music? White teens. Hopefully, white people will finally reckonize her as the racist she is and she can slip into oblivion. Posted by: Jonny Z at April 14, 2008 1:46 PM Wait which one was gonna be the next great leader? Fuck the world don't ask me for shit or the guy slapping heather hunters ass in the video? Posted by: Divisivejones at April 14, 2008 4:40 PM No rapper or any other musician will ever be the next great political leader, and they're not supposed to be. BUT come on mayne, we can't front like Tupac was never political. He had a lot of potential to inspire people in the way that the best activist musicians do, and the apparent contradictions of his other tendencies only made that voice even more compelling. Posted by: Jay Smooth at April 14, 2008 8:24 PM Yeah but you gotta admit, time and a good media play fuzzies out uncomfortable realities. Posted by: divisivejones at April 15, 2008 12:46 AM c/s jsmooth on Pac, there was a lot of material the dude had, some crap, some ordinary, and some freaking insightful. and the dude was what,25 when he passed. its not so far fetched that if he had got over the whole whatever the fuck he was going thru , that he could have become like a Paul Robeson, Ossie Davis type. Dude was actually speaking to the poorest of the poor in the black community. Like I said, he was definitely all over the place but he was still young so the potential was there. Saying that, Alicia sounds like she is on that sizzurp. And she is lucky she looks the way she does otherwise J would have thrown her ass under the bus as a nutty conspiracist. I hope she dont support Obama, cause Fox News gonna bring this shit up and ask to him to denounce her ass. I love reading the comments, but I must say that although we have a right to say whatever we want, knowledge is the key to everything. I'm in the government in an area privileged to know if something occurred in the past to manipulate the African-American population to destroy each other through creation of Gangster Rap. Let me just say that we've done a lot to keep things safe here and overseas, but manipulating the masses is NOT one of them. Very silly. As for Tupac, it reads like a conspiracy theory. If you believe in this sort of thing, go and get yourself A) a job and quit worrying about "cause and effect" so much or you'll go crazy; B) a gossip magazine. There are a million conspiracy cases out there, you can read them all on the web. If I was to really believe Alisha Keys, I would have to research the beginnings of rap, the influences on culture and gangs, and probably BE from the era AND area that it started in. The second best thing? Working in the Government and being able to get firsthand knowledge of classified information and files that indicate whether something like this occurred in the past. Please. Give me a break. Don't forget that the Government is made up of you and me...your uncles/aunts, neighbors and friends who hold positions at State and Federal levels. There is no "machine" that drives US, it's US that drives the machine. If a conspiracy so vast and across both coasts was in play, it would ultimately have involved us African Americans in order to succeed. Saying that something like that has occurred is really an uneducated complaint towards something we haven't researched, participated in, or been a part of. I feel sad for Alisha Keys, and ultimately believe that this is probably a poor attempt on her part to gain publicity while sacrificing those of us who work deep behind the scenes in the world's greatest Nation to keep the peace and promote liberty. Shame on you Alisha. Oh, and thanks for making a great stereotypical comment for the white population to massacre. I'm throwing out all your music I purchased as soon as I'm done typing this. Posted by: Divisivejones at April 15, 2008 2:08 PM The guy in the mini video at the top of this keeps referring to "us" as in black Americans. Question: Is he black? Because he looks exactly like my cousin and my cousin sure as h*ll isn't black. Posted by: Trick at April 16, 2008 10:59 AM haha, I love it. Now her dumbass is back peddling. Apparently, her white corporate handlers told her what a big freaking mistake she made allienating her paying fans. Now she says that it was all taken out of context. Her interview was recordered and Blender stands by their story. Posted by: Jonny Z at April 16, 2008 11:43 AM Alicia Keys is a very gifted singer, songwiter and musician. She plays the piano with considerable skill for a pop artist. However, after hearing her "theories" it's obvious she needs to do one of two things.... 1) Keep her day job and leave the social commentating to those who are educated and well informed. Or.......... 2) Take a break from music, study the truth regarding politics, oppression, black culture and then learn how to form an intelligent opinion and support an argument based on fact and evidence. It happens over and over again with entertainers. They spend a lifetime perfecting their craft of music, acting or whatever, and then they get a wild notion to experiment in politics, sociolgy and cultural debate, after only taking a couple of hours to read a bunch of baseless rhetoric spewed by agenda driven frauds who are supposedly cool and hip. Posted by: Eric Bonet at April 16, 2008 7:47 PM I enjoy reading all these comments. If Keys was to make racially charge comment of such, she should have done more home work. I lost all respect for her. I don't think either Pac or Biggie was going to be the next great leader. Do you want a leader that degrades woman? glorifies violences? Promote the use and distribution of Narcotics? Not judging, but they are great entertainers, not politicians! Posted by: tuapc fan at April 17, 2008 3:48 PM Tupacfan you are a self-righteous JACKASS and do YOU ever bitch about the way Hollywood or tv or rock songs or country music 'degrades' women and glorifies violence and the use and abuse of drugs?!! Of course NOT because then that would require some consistency and not a arrogant hypocrite preaching selective morality. As for Alicia Keys she sounds like a retard WHAT THE F%%K?!! Hello stupid black people were already doing that BEFORE rap so who is she going to blame then this is another case of a self-absorbed fool celebrity thinking their 'famousness' gives them some social insight. She's an utter moron. Posted by: lulubelle at April 17, 2008 10:32 PM I think we should all follow Tupac's brilliant example. Sleep around, do massive drugs, glorify the violent lifestyle, leave a passle of fatherless children. Fantastic! A friggin utopia!. Posted by: in2food at April 29, 2008 9:56 AM I ain't mad at Alicia Keys at all. Maybe she's right. Much worse things have been done against black folks. I think we can all name a few. Let's not act like label execs aren't behind the scenes conjuring up more ways to increase their bottom line. Who has "gangsta rap" benefitted the most. It sure as hell has not been black folks. A few brothers have made money. Lots of them are now broke, dead, imprisoned, forgotten, and a host of other unmentionables.
