The latest video from The Roots, "Rising Up", which (with the horn section and percussion) captures the sound of their most recent tours more than most of their studio tracks. Rising Up also featured the roots' friends Wale and Chrisette Michelle, and some all-star b-boys and girls including some of our friends from Fox Force 5.. The Roots "Rising Up" video is directed by Rik Cordero who seems to direct everything these days..

Well, another group will spin another top hit after engrafting the syncopated beat of the streets straight out of Washington D.C. where we been asking for the band to gimme dat beat for over 30 years. If you want to hear where these groups are getting their ideas, then simply search for Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Experience Unlimited, or any of the latest go-go bands. First Beyonce with Crazy in Love, then Amerie with One Thing, and now the Roots with Rising Up. That go-go beat is too hot to resist! The world is finding out what we've known in the chocolate city for decades. Go-go is da shite!!

Let's call a spade a spade. This beat is classic immatation of go-go drum cadence. By "go-go" I mean the percussion heavy R&B/Hip-Hop style of music created in the Washington DC area in the 70's, which is still active today. Black Thought even mentions "Rare Essence" a classic go-go band in the song and Wale, a DC native, is on the track. **kisses**
