June 16, 2009Lupe Fiasco "Shining Down" - MP3, Lyrics (updated)Apparently this is the first single from Lupe Fiasco's We Are Lasers.. featuring Matthew Santos once again on guest vocals. (via TSS). Not a huge fan of this sound but I like what he's writing. EDIT: Lupe has posted on a fan site to say he did not intend for this to be leaked, and doesn't want people to link it, so although I think he should reconsider his position on downloading I will take the mp3 link down out of respect.. the lyrics are still below though: ----------------- look up in the sky you thought I was down but look up in the sky well well, is it our little author you thought I was down but look up in the sky no, i ain't the nigga trying to get a liquor line now if we autotune that shit and that's the same encircled way of thinking that we chat with you thought I was down but look up in the sky so i say hello and this is for the third time Lupe Fiasco "Shining Down" Lyrics Posted by jsmooth995 at June 16, 2009 5:06 PMComments
Man Lu pissed bout this. and I believe it's Posted by: Premise Ptah at June 17, 2009 1:07 AM Naw nigga its "i aint trying to get a liquor line" like how diddy got ciroc and jayz got armadale. The lyrics are correct Posted by: LupeDaBest at June 17, 2009 1:33 PM yeah, on that LupEND blog. he's mad as heck. its not the final version supposedly though. Posted by: Almost Illmatic at June 17, 2009 1:45 PM A couple things i noticed: In the 1st verse the last line is "this is HIS memorial" The line about Fabolous it's "hatS". it's plural. In the in the 3rd verse it's "to everybody out there who ain't never heard MINE" And you should add (lines) after lions to show the play on words Posted by: Ryan at June 17, 2009 3:39 PM "cowards (cow-words), you only heard lions" Cow-herds Posted by: tootru at June 17, 2009 5:05 PM the chorus is wrong its "thought i wasnt around" Posted by: bgoldbcool at June 17, 2009 6:04 PM He was right. It is actually Cow-words. Because he says "Lu don't moo, no cow words" Posted by: Ryan at June 17, 2009 7:18 PM Lu don't moo, no cow-words you've only heard lines this is probably one of the smartest lines ive ever heard, im gonna go with Lu don't moo (move), no cow-words (cow-herds/cowards) you've only heard (herd) lines (lions) then again thats still indecisive haha Posted by: Akram at June 17, 2009 9:39 PM Fire Posted by: SdottPDott at June 19, 2009 10:25 PM i believe "judge jury like a loop" is making reference to judge and jury like a noose. Posted by: Tha Nastys at June 21, 2009 5:27 PM also "taking off with the dough" not "door" Posted by: Tha Nastys at June 21, 2009 5:38 PM Dough/Door - Its both. "Little" Walter Jacobs took the doors off his Cadillac because he was hot and that the car lacked air conditioning. Posted by: wuzcex at June 22, 2009 3:02 PM A few verses of lupe deliver more content than a whole lp of almost every radio, tv, and chart wanna be mc. Posted by: joja at June 22, 2009 5:48 PM sick song, lupe keeps getting better, hopefully the rest of his album will be this good Posted by: jonny at June 23, 2009 2:00 PM *thot i wasnt around Posted by: ash at June 25, 2009 4:29 PM i really love my people i'm sick of pimping mine true to true Posted by: RckDtar at July 5, 2009 5:35 PM i love lupe. Posted by: indiie at July 6, 2009 12:15 AM Chess is actually chests because Jerry Lawler is all about those tig ol bitties. trust me. Posted by: PCheems at July 6, 2009 3:40 AM no jerry lawler was "the king" in wrestling so if lupe was a chess piece in this game of hip hop he would be jerry lawler the king Posted by: Amireo at July 7, 2009 1:31 AM Wow, Lu's genius is proven by the way we try and decipher his lyrics, and every interpretation given is so ill and creative. I agree with this tho: Posted by: sANTana+ at July 7, 2009 2:32 AM Wow, Lu's genius is proven by the way we try and decipher his lyrics, and every interpretation given is so ill and creative. I agree with this tho: Posted by: sANTana+ at July 7, 2009 2:33 AM I'm glad to see that people still know how to interpret lyrics. No one mentioned the duality of this bar: "Rather being FEDS instead of National Geographics" Yes, they are both magazine references but phonetically Lu says: "Rather being FEDS (eating no matter how broken they are as people) than National Geogra-"fixed" Posted by: RealTalk at July 11, 2009 3:39 PM this absoloutly blows my mind... nas sed hip hop is ded but lupe jus reived it wit one song... im jus speechless Posted by: chris at July 14, 2009 7:52 AM this absoloutly blows my mind... nas sed hip hop is ded but lupe jus reived it wit one song... im jus speechless Posted by: chris at July 14, 2009 7:52 AM This is a fucking epic song. Good job deciphering guys. Posted by: Ronan at July 14, 2009 8:18 PM Actually it IS "chess" because it's referring to both Little Walter who was on "Chess Records" as well as Jerry Lawler who was called "the King" which is obviously the #1 piece in Chess. Also it should be "taken off of the dough(door) like Little Walter" because he's talkin about taking ppl's attention off of the dough(money) and putting it back on the flow(lyrics). And, as someone else posted, Little Walter was said to have taken the doors off of his caddy so he could get in and outta shit quicker. Lupe's wordplay is just immortal in this song. I think the most complete lyrics version is on LyricWiki now that I edited it there with ppl's suggestions here and all the homonyms to0. Posted by: m33k at July 18, 2009 3:11 PM who is the chorus supposed to be? God? Lupe is God (rap god)? and also he says rebel with a cause. well speaking of chess records(old original rock n roll label), there was a movie around the time chess was a major label called THE REBEL, but the star character supposedly had no cause. Lupe has a cause. Posted by: john at July 19, 2009 7:36 PM also it could be liquor line or "lick a line" saying hes not trying to get rich off of every line he spits. Posted by: john at July 19, 2009 7:38 PM move is actually called Rebel Without a Cause(1955) Posted by: john at July 28, 2009 1:33 PM on the verse that says: "but my daddy named me warrior
Posted by: Duces at August 2, 2009 3:23 PM Can someone explain the "Rather be in FEDS than national geographics" line? It doesn't make much sense over here in the UK. I thought that, keeping with the theme of headwear throughout the verse (bandanas, hat), it was something to do with the following: Rather be in Fed's (as in a Fedora) As in certain stars would rather pose for the present than be remembered for something worth while? Am I totally off the mark or is this just another classic Lupe line that can mean a thousand things? Posted by: rbp at August 4, 2009 6:29 PM i think the hook is relating to Lupe's deceased father. how he is looking down on him.....thus, the song is 'his memorial' Posted by: Uno at August 5, 2009 3:52 AM does anyone kno wher i can get 'The Truth Is Amongst Us' ? Posted by: Uno at August 6, 2009 8:43 PM does anyone kno wher i can get 'The Truth Is Amongst Us' ? Posted by: Uno at August 6, 2009 8:44 PM "now if we autotune that shit now if we look at the quote "it aint over till the fat lady says its over", Posted by: Frank; b-boy shadow (truth and creativity!) at October 13, 2009 3:01 PM its Chess, Little Walter was a blues musician for chicago's Chess Records. the play on it is about jerry lawler and how he loves chests. brilliant Posted by: zaz at November 10, 2009 2:27 PM I think he wanted each line to have more meaning... that’s the brilliance in his word play. Not only is each line mean something, each verse is a metaphor for something totally different if u want to read deep. I can’t believe pp sleep on him like they do... BEST RAPPER ALIVE! Hands down! Posted by: Ashleigh at December 3, 2009 8:12 PM "now if we autotune that shit now if we look at the quote "it aint over till the fat lady says its over", Posted by: Frank; b-boy shadow (truth and creativity!) at October 13, 2009 3:01 PM this is a beautiful and highly intelligent analysis. Only minor correction is the quote is, it's not over till the fat lady sings Posted by: John Schneider at December 8, 2009 8:49 PM Please, can you email me and tell me few more thinks about this, I am really fan of your blog.
