This War is as Wrong Now as it Ever Was.

Don't get it twisted. I was one of millions of Americans who spoke against this war. But just because we did not support this invasion, that doesn't mean we ever doubted Saddam Hussein was a grimy bastard, and that the Iraqi people had every reason to rejoice in his downfall. I felt genuinely happy for the Iraqis we saw celebrating yesterday, and I'm sure most anti-war Americans felt the same.

So any right-wingers who expect us to be "eating crow" today, I'm afraid we will have to disappoint you. Anyone who thinks yesterday's news "proved us wrong" must not have understood what we were saying in the first place. We were never against seeing the end of Saddam Hussein's regime. We were against the means used to bring this about, and we still are.

Yesterday's footage was wonderful to see. All those folks getting their office-chair loot on, it truly warmed the heart. But I also remember images like this one, of 12 year old Ali Ismail Abbas asking if we can put his arms back on. No matter how many times you show us tearing that statue's legs off, it won't make me forget that we also took this little boy's arms off. And that he is only one of thousands. I am just as strongly against that now as I ever was. It didn't need to happen like that.

I'll write more on this later if I have time. But I really don't want to see the left punk out on this, and cave in to all the "i-told-you-so" nonsense.

~Young Ali is only one of the many children whose lives have been traumatized forever b/c of American imperialism. There are many more that we don't know of. Ali is not thanking America, and neither are all the people who have lost mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters. If you heard bombs dropping over your home, saw your loved ones being blown to pieces, buried your young sister and your dear mother, you would curse America, the land of the free which brought you nothing but utter destruction and devastation. Revenge would stir in ur heart. These are the sentiments of many Iraqis now. Don't call them terrorists when they try to bring justice to their people, living and dead, b/c you would do the same if it happened to you.

~The regime is down, Kurds are happy...I sincerely hope they remain happy. Jeffrey St. Clair writes in an article for counterpunch.com: "Is it jubilation over the fall of Saddam? Or relief because the American bombs have finally stopped falling? Is the outcry one of genuine gratitude for liberation? Or a sensible attempt to ingratiate themselves with their conquerors? Or a mixture of the above? Remember the Shi'ia cheered the entry of the Israelis into Lebanon. Things can change." (http://counterpunch.org/stclair04102003.html)

Wow, I'm so happy to see that there are still people out there that feels the same way as I do. Shehza pretty much hit all the points I wanted to make about those poor people that are supposedly being "liberated", but what's liberty when you have lost your loved ones, and/or lost your motor skills by loosing your body parts. If someone kills my loved ones or injure me, I probably would not like them. Matter of fact, I will probably avenge them for what they have done to me. So I hope American masses aren't too ignorant and think that now those Iraqis will all love us and be honky dori.
I don't think many people realize that there are so many different factions(shi'aits, Sunis, Kurds, and others) in that region and it is not easy to just simply "liberate" Iraq by overthrowing Saddam. I am affraid that now Saddam is gone, those factions might try to out do each other to take the throne. I'm also afraid that US led coalition will try to put "puppet regime" that favors US and British economically. I just read an article about how Bush is saying that UN and others that opposed this war shouldn't get "piece of the pie" when rebuilding Iraq. "Piece of the pie"? Exactly, it's all about power and money. Which country gets to have most number of private sectors bid for contracts is what they want. It's not about freedom, it's about whose going to get largest piece of the pie...ie Money and Power!! Not to mention begining of the war, Bush was saying that UN will have major roll in rebuilding, but now he is flipping his words and trying to shove UN away from being involved.
I gotta stop now because I could probably write a thesis out of this topic. I hope people see beyond American media and what US goverment feeds us. I'm happy to see that Saddam is out of power, but having Bush controlling Iraq with puppet regime probably won't be any better.
I dislike religion for which it seems to bring wars and conflict. But if Bush is truly a Christian, he should treat others like he wants to be treated by others as the Bible preaches. I think I don't like religion because so many people ivolved in it are hypocrites and don't even know their own religion well enough to practice. To me this war has lot to do with religion and if we didn't have religion, we probably will have far less conflicts... Please, don't be mad for me disliking religion. It's just my opinion.
I still want peace and now more than ever, US should back off and let World (UN) take care of rebuilding Iraq.

just to clarify, its not religion itself that brings about war and conflict, its the human beings that practice it. Don't blame the doctrine blame the blind follwers. Most religious doctrines are very noble and encourage people to live with respect for others, honesty, honor, loyalty etc. But when people misinterpret those teachings and put their own selfish spin on it to match what they already think, thats when hate begins...

Interesting how probably the same people who find the adrenaline-release in Baghdad so transcendant, couldn't wrap their minds around why any looting would be going on in LA not so long ago...
