Northern State and the Schwarzenegger Syndrome
?uestlove has finally resurfaced to explain his baffling nomination of Northern State for the Shortlist Awards.
It seems this was a mixup between Questo and the awards people, and he hadn't intended for the terminally overhyped lite-rap trio to be his final pick, but he never got to send in his real choices because his computer got hit by the virus that was going around a few weeks ago. Fair enough. my faith in the order of the universe is restored.
And I'm still trying really hard not to hate Northen State. I swear if I had never read any of their interviews or seen any of their press coverage I would enjoy their stuff for the harmless fun that it is. It's only how seriously they are being taken that makes me want to throw dead animals at them.
It's like Arnold Schwarzenegger, he was marginally tolerable as a grade b movie actor, but being asked to take him seriously as a candidate for governor renders him insufferable.

remind me to tell you how much their management wanted us to pay them for the BENEFIT CONCERT* we're doing in Brooklyn**.
*pretty much all the artists- even the ones coming in from England- are performing gratis. even the big ones who've toured the world and have a big following.
** they're from LI, so a show in Brooklyn would more or less be a hometown crowd and not a great distance for them to travel to.

i kept hearing about this group and kind of hated them from the get go because i assumed they were just some stereotypical pseudo-feminist college chicks with some mediocre skills. but i felt bad for judging them before i had actually heard anything. so i downloaded one of their songs and i was like 'wow, mediocre. that is a gross overstatement.' and then i immediately deleted the mp3. what a bunch of fucking garbage. its really sad that so much hype has been generated merely by their race and gender. weak skills, homogenized beats, boring production. again, northern state is fucking garbage.

Arnold Schwarzenegger reminds me a lot of Ronald Reagan. They both confuse movies with reality. BTW, what’s up with Ronald Reagan, Jr. speaking at the Democratic convention?
