The REAL History of Hip-Hop and Porn
Man the NY Times really dropped the ball on this one. In their report on the blooming relationship between hip-hop and porn, the so-called paper of record erroneously reports that no rapper has yet "performed" as the star of an adult film. How dare you disrespect the true pioneers of hip-hop porn?
Admittedly Snoop's Doggystyle tape doesn't count since he adopts a Rod Serling role, introducing the escapades without joining in. But do you mean to tell me nobody at the Times ever saw Treach's Naturally Naughty Porno Movie?? Or the groundbreaking work of Cypress Hill affiliate Son Doobie in Son Doobie, Porn King way back in 1995, later cited by Eminem in "Guilty Conscience"? Talk about cultural illiteracy!
BET.com did a far better job reporting on this trend last year (you know you're slipping when you get out-reported by BET!), and they reminded me that the true godfather of hip-hop porn is NWA's DJ Yella, who has been working in the porn industry since 1994 as Tha Kidd. Interestingly their piece also quotes Shecky Green, the producer Game's Hip-Hop Honeys, without mentioning that "Shecky" is actually Source co-founder Jon Shecter.

gee, hip hop and porno- what a new concept. hip hop and porn have always shared an interesting relationship... heather hunter, black porn star extraordinaire, was a regular at the latin quarters. when i was doing interviews for the LQ part of my book her name came up constantly... also, my friend elf has a copy of a promo VHS from around '93 or '94 that Tommy Boy sent out showing "the making of" some Digital Underground music video (i forget the song) which was basically big HUGE orgy featuring DU and hundreds of video girls in scanty clothing getting down on some Roman Orgy type stage set. it was super x-rated... it would be nice if there were a way for the people who write articles about specific parts of the culture to have access to this info. it would make for more in-depth articles. either that or they could get writers who were/are around hip hop enough to know what they should be writing about.

Oh yeah! I forgot that Digital Underground video, was that for "Freaks of the Industry"? I'm not sure if I ever had that, may have just watched someone else's copy.
I met Heather Hunter a couple of times up at WNWK when they had their Saturday night hip-hop lineup. She's really tiny. She wanted my sometimes co-host G-Man to come on that cable TV talk show she used to do, but I don't think he ever came through.

Never released, probably because it features half of NY's hip hop royalty including mr. preacher man mase. supposedly shot in lobby of the NY public library on 42. can't remember the song though, who the hell remembers porno songs...
