50 Voices for Madrid

  1. Anil Dash: Our thoughts are with you today, as yours were with us two and a half years ago. I can't explain or understand what happened today, but I can vouch for the fact that it does get more bearable in time.
  3. Likemolasses: i feel so selfish for feeling this strongly, for weeping over the images, for walking around stonefaced and numb all day, for sending stupid solidarity emails and planning a vigil, but i feel like someone's ripped apart my own house and left the residents for dead. worst part is, i can't even get back into it. madrid, ahora mas de que nunca, me echas de menos...

  4. hebig.org: Not getting through to your friends there is worst of all. Deseo que podria estar contigo ahora.
  5. Gen Kanai: Madrid te quiero
  6. Amidst a tangled web: My heart goes out to them.
  7. Secular Blasphemy: Madrid in tears Madrid te quiero.. March 11th, another date that will live in infamy.
  8. AMYGDALA is sorrowful for the loss of life in Spain; we but lack words.
  9. Plum Crazy: The people killed in Madrid today undoubtedly wanted nothing more than most people want - to earn a living; to fall in love; to raise their children; to go shopping; to grab a bite to eat - in other words, to live. These were people carrying about their ordinary lives. They were not soldiers. They were not government officials.1 Maybe they approved of their government’s actions. Maybe they did not. But the terrorists who killed them did not care. To the terrorists, they were guilty - tried, convicted, and sentenced to death while simply living their lives. I feel a tremendous amount of empathy for the Spaniards today, as well as all victims of terrorism.
  10. Sheila Astray: My thoughts, prayers, love, sympathy are with the people of Spain today. Horrible.
  11. East Bay Kerry: WE'RE CRYING FOR YOU, MADRID. We know what terrorism feels like. You have our heartfelt sympathy and best wishes
  12. padawan.info: I’m devastated and disgusted. I hope that humanity will eventually overcome all extremism, notably those which have no respect for human life and know nothing but destruction.
  13. d2r: how long must we sing this song?: What happened today in Madrid filled me with a deep, deep sadness and incredible pain
  14. Isopixel: No tengo palabras.
  15. Gadgetguy: NO MORE!
  16. Caerdroia: We are all Spanish today.
  17. The Head Heeb: My sympathies are with the people of Spain
Necesitas ayuda?.......Solo he podido echarme a llorar.......y me ha abrazado.....
  24. Ricardo Nuno : Tristeza
  25. Sincomentarios.net: Solidaridad (y silencio)
  26. NaDa: Condolencias desde lejos...

  29. La choza chueca de Don Arturo - 11-M: ¡Pa'lante España!
  30. Internet a mano: Madrid, te quiero
  33. Alas y Balas: Nuestra Solidaridad con las Víctimas y Familias
  34. Elastico: Madrid, te queremos
  35. caspa.tv: 11M Madrid te Quiero
  36. John Kerry: I would like to express my sincerest sympathy to the Spanish people and the families of those killed and injured in today's horrific terrorist bombing in Madrid. As a country which has also experienced tragedy at the hands of these cowardly killers, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  37. LilPoh: For the victims, their families, and all of Spain, may God comfort and keep you. Your loss is the world's loss. Vas con el Señor.
  39. The American Mind: My prayers go out to the victims, their families, and all Spaniards.
  40. Second Breakfast: if you're looking to send sympathy locally, here's a list of all of the Spanish consulates in the U.S.
  47. Jalexei (Metafilter): I'm sitting here with my 10-day old daughter, and just feeling empty and a bit sick about the world she'll be growing up in. And realizing that everyone (attackers and victims) were cute little infants at one time, and wondering how one gets from A to B. F**k.
  48. Beanshooter: The 3/11 massacre of innocent people in Madrid is too much of a reminder of what happened here on 9/11. We hope that people, particularly Americans, show support to the victims and their families the way the international community was so quick to give support to us in our time of need.
  50. Stevie Wonder: Don't delay. Send yours in right away..

I worked at this for hours, hoping to make a list of 200 links, but I have no more time. 200 is a horrifyingly large number.

(many of the Spanish pages came from boingboing and this site)

I hope whoever plotted and orchestrated this horrific act has alternate plans for the after-life. Hell is waiting. As a muslim and a human I cringe at the idea that this act may have been a Al Qaeda attack. I deplore these beasts using my faith to sanction their political agenda. The perps, whoever they may be, Al Qaeda, ETA or otherwise, destroyed the lives of countless people--the dead and the survivors.

excellent effort...this tragedy is yet another tear in the fabric of human existence...how many more can the human race stand? i fear we will not survive for another century...the future may not arrive as planned...but something inside me clings to hope that we truly are moving towards peace on this planet...

It's been very conforting to feel the love and kindness of our friends all over the world. Terrorism knows no boundaries and this can happen to anyone. We have to fight together to erradicate this cancer.

If any of your visitors speak spanish, the following link has got all the spanish speaking blogs that's been posting about our tragedy:

Jay, I set up a feedpaper that tracks news articles and posts about the Madrid Terrorism problem. You can click my name to get there.

I feel weird about this. I want to disconnect myself from the reality of the teror because of the 9/11 memories it conjures for me.

I really pray that whatever strength can be gleamed from how we dealt with 9/11 in New York will console and perhaps inspire people in Madrid.

i awoke a bit late
leaning in to my morning
hungover from
a late night

and I read the news
of those poor spanish
people,

my people

being blown up for
simply getting on a train
for simply trying to get to work
to feed their families

for trying to live a good honest life

I have no words to convey how i feel
my mestizo blood boils

mi españa

i somehow need to embrace you

I've never felt anything like this before, rage, helplessness and sadness all at the same time, because this terrorist attack is personal, it was against me, against my neighbours and against each and every one of the 6 million people who live in Madrid. Madrid mourns and I'm so grateful that the whole world mourns with us. Madrid, te quiero con todo mi corazón.

Anyone ever heard of the Basque separatists in Spain? That perhaps it was them, rather than fundamentalist Muslims? Just asking

Regardless of who did it, I know that my prayers and thoughts are with those who lost loved ones and to those who are suffering. We here in New York were with you that day, and we continue to be until there is peace.
