Oh My God, Andre 3000's Got a Gun!
This is, bar none, the single most outlandish attempt to make a rapper sound scandalous that I've ever seen. It is a work of genius:

Though the Democratic Party is known for its aversion to weapons and has pushed legislation limiting firearm rights, ex-Presidents Carter and Clinton joined a star-studded fund-raiser last night featuring the rap duo Outkast, which promotes itself with an image of one member of the group brandishing a handgun...
...On Outkast's website, outkast.com, one member of the group, Dre (aka Andre Benjamin), is seen prominently brandishing a smoking gun in his right hand. (After going to site, click on the right-hand image labeled "The Love Below.")
I can't come up with a comment snide enough to do this justice. I tip my hat to you, gentlemen. You have bested me.

Two other things to marvel at:
1) The deck (or sub-headline) calls OutKast a "Soul Duo" which is kind of cool...I guess.
2) This quote: "The second event, featuring Outkast, appeared to be targeted at a different economic class, with 5,000 people expecting to pay just $50 each." Ah, so good to know that the blacks who like the rap certainly aren't going to be paying $1,000 a head.

This is typical, and expect more of it. Lots more. The right wing has mastered the art of manipulating the press for their own gain.
I was at the Unity Event After Party last night at Dream Nightclub in D.C., as were approximately 5000 other people from 20-35. Every single one of us had to go through metal detectors and get patted down by secret service. They also had guys at every Exit door in the club to make sure there was no way to get weapons into the event. They take this stuff seriously, you know.
It was a fun event, and unlike anything the Republicans would ever hold.

Anyone who isn't a rap fan but liked "Hey Ya" knows that the gun is meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Andre 3G is about as threatening to white America as Urkel. That's not to dis on Andre-- it's just the only way I have to explain why everyone dug that damned song.
Now, if Big Boi had been strapped on the cover of the "Speakerboxx" CD, that might've looked a little scary.
