My Kanye West/Public Enemy/John Coltrane Double Mashup

Tonight I had an overwhelming urge to blend the beat from Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Encore" with the vocals from O-Town's "Liquid Dreams." But I couldn't find that acapella so I settled for mixing Kanye's beat with "Bring the Noise", and then throwing in John Coltrane's "Ascension" (AKA the "Finnegan's Wake" of Coltrane's discography) for good measure:

This came out rather nicely, but if anyone has that O-Town acapella please let me know.

Jay, the fact that you even thought you had an O-Town acapella in your collection means you must have a RIDICULOUS amount of records. Something like that would have hit my "sell" pile almost immediately unless the track was done by someone hot (a la when Britney did joints with the Neptunes). How many records do you have?

Certified hot. I like the breakdown near the end. John riding the Kanye beat or is it the other way around. Chuck D fits nicely, too.

Ian: I am somewhere in the vicinity of 10,000 records, but I stopped actively adding to the collection about 5 years ago.

David: haha, I wouldn't go that far, but putting him over this track with all its non-quantized latin type rhythms did make Chuck's flow sound a little off at times.. there were a couple of spots where I had to get really creative in Cool Edit, moving parts of the line around to make him sound on beat.

This reminds me of EEC's mash-up of Public Enemy and Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass. However, there was kitsch underlining the EEC track, while your mix is just plain dope.

Yeah, didn't mean to imply that the vox didn't fit - they do. But there's a reason the Anthrax version of the song worked so well: Chuck is a bruiser. He's a finess bruiser - he can roll those triplets - but it's kind of like Leon Lett doing ballet.
