August 09, 2004Preemptive BacklashIs it too early for me to say I'm sick of Shyne already? Rise & Shyne Umm, ok, i guess...? Posted by jsmooth995 at August 9, 2004 05:16 AM | TrackBackComments
Count me in on the "I'm sick of this cat" bandwagon. But right now he is riding perhaps the greatest rap gimmick of the decade ... Jail Time = Thug Status. Posted by: Belve at August 9, 2004 08:35 AM I never understood the allure of this dude. He raps about guns, drugs and murder AND he sounds like BIG. So he's officially unoriginal on two fronts. But I confess I never heard his album... It's discouraging, though -- this guy has made more mkoney in jail than I probably will in my entire life. Posted by: BCTW at August 9, 2004 09:39 AM I like one song he released. This cat is full of himself. So much hype over nothing. Posted by: METALFACE at August 9, 2004 10:03 AM Me Me Me! If there's an anti-Shyne Revival party, I want in. It's like They just decided that Shyne would be the biggest thing and voila, it's done. Posted by: Robert at August 9, 2004 10:09 AM It's been a source of amazement to me watching a marginally promising MC with a passing vocal resemblance to BIG (and it is passing when you really listen to him) with one so-so album became the hottest MC on the street after going to jail but that's hip hop 2004. I will say that he seems pretty centered, self-assured as a person now and not that bitter about what's happened to him or at Puffy etc. but I guess that's what 4 years in jail will do to you. Watch his album sell a boatload despite some pretty ordinary sounding music. Posted by: ian at August 9, 2004 10:55 AM We're still looking for Tupac. See how Vibe tried to replicate their classic Tupac in jail cover with this new cover with Shyne. Posted by: Hashim at August 9, 2004 10:58 AM not to mention how slooooooooooooooooow ten years goes when someone's locked up. who knows what the world's gonna be like by the time he gets out. Posted by: beelove at August 9, 2004 12:18 PM It's not shyne's fault that his voice is similar to biggie's. I feel bad for the guy: he drops one album, which is undoubtedly better than anything that fat nigga ever dropped, and gets hated on. (I know that's heresy around here, but it's true.) Anyway, I think I speak for the majority of the rap fans on the west coast when I say I'd rather listen to some fake booyork MC rapping about selling heroin than some liberal arts major from La Jolla rapping about ultramagnetic spaceship configurations. Posted by: big zone at August 9, 2004 06:34 PM I just wanted to say I can't believe what I just read from Big Zone. Ian and Hashim made some excellent points though. But big Zone, has clearly zoned he f*ck out of reality. Posted by: Kai at August 10, 2004 12:09 AM YO....... SHYNE IS ONE OF THOSE RAPPRS YOU JUST CANT GET ENOUGH OF. HE KNOWS THAT THATS WHY HES DROPPIN ALBUMS FROM JAIL. 1. JUST BECAUSE HE HAS A DEEP RAP VOICE HE DOSENT SOUND LIKE BIG YOU STUPID FUCK. 2 HES BROOKLYN BORN SO YOU KNOW HE IS NICE. AND 3. IF YOU THINK HE CANT RAP " TELL ME WHO WANT TO FUCK WIT US ASHES TO ASHES DUST TO DUST, BANG!, AND LET YA FUCKIN BRAINS HANG" Posted by: deviate at August 10, 2004 01:40 AM "he drops one album, which is undoubtedly better than anything that fat nigga ever dropped, and gets hated on." My friend, there are specialists you can see for whatever disorder you suffer from.. or surely a 12 step program at least. Don't be ashamed to get help! I don't dislike Shyne though, that joint with the Grace Jones sample was was nice. He's aiite, just not worthy of all this. Posted by: Jay Smooth at August 10, 2004 01:54 AM jay smooth is right. i don't dislike shyne either. one moment he's a forgotten son in jail then out of no where he's every where. i can hardly understand what he's rappin over the phone on the usher remix and some people are still giving him(and the song) props. as for big zone? shyne must have internet access in his cell. maybe a laptop. who else would write some crazy shit like that? ps - i'm on the west coast. the only spaceship configurations i listen to are those of the mothership. now SHUTDAFUNKUP? Posted by: dialect at August 10, 2004 04:23 AM When Big Zone said "I speak for the majority of the rap fans on the west coast when I say I'd rather listen to some fake booyork MC" I thought he was gonna talk about Guerilla Black. Don't hate on him though, that line about "liberal arts major from La Jolla rapping about ultramagnetic spaceship configurations" was pretty funny (even though I just copped some Ultramag test pressing 12's from Sound Library this weekend. So sue me, I get backpack-ish every once in a while). Posted by: ian at August 10, 2004 11:11 AM Can someone explain to me why Shyne was ever popular? Posted by: Cal Ulmann at August 10, 2004 11:25 AM He really said that about B.I.G. ... wow He probably thinks the D.O.C. sounds better now after the accident too. For the record. I didn't say nor do I think the cat is wack. All I'm saying is I KNOW there has to be other artists out (out of jail at the very least) who should be receiving more pub than this cat. But to suggest even remotely that Shyne's album was better than Biggie's (Ready to Die or Life after Death) is a foolish statement. I think that statement was meant to make us pay attention to him. Posted by: Belve at August 10, 2004 03:19 PM Well, I suppose there is no right or wrong when it comes to musical taste, contrary to what these hipsters would tell you.. This particular preference is hard to fathom though Posted by: Jay Smooth at August 10, 2004 03:31 PM The Def Jam hype machine is at work. Have you heard the "confessions"remix with JD and Usher. Shyne literally phoned in his verse from jail. It's all muffled, i couldn't believe it was the #1 song on Hot 97. Stay tuned for the Firm 05. Shyne, Foxy Brown, and Jay-Z forming a group. Shyne talked about it in the new Vibe. I don't think he got the charisma to pull a "50". Posted by: quimby at August 12, 2004 01:08 AM Hey Yo big zone!! SPEAK on it my nigga! Posted by: nopityindabity at August 14, 2004 12:48 AM ShYnE vs BiGGiE Verdict Posted by: killa_man at August 18, 2004 06:57 AM since when is being in jail a friggin handicap!?!?!? Posted by: goldenbrown at August 18, 2004 11:51 PM one of my favorite songs put your shoes on there's the exit. Posted by: dan at August 28, 2004 01:55 PM hey, isnt shyne jewish? that should make him all that more better :) Posted by: dan at August 28, 2004 02:02 PM I feel for shyne , and all you faggets hatein on him cause hes doin hard time and still can keep his head up and rap. It aint easy doin time in prison and i think him still rappin proves nothing is gonna get in his way of doing what he loves to do , and i have nothin but respect for that, you dumb cats out there are so fucking mainstream and only care about whats the latest trend and shit, Shyne is a classic fuckin artist and all you haters can keep hatein cause you all is who hes rappin about bitches. Posted by: Craighead at August 28, 2004 03:35 PM You kno what yall...i cant say i like Shyne...i dont know the dude...but i know thoro music when i hear it...hes a real nigga caught up in a fucked situation due to the gvmt stickin its nose in mens business. He got pulled out on, now i dont know about standing there n receiving hollows...yall maybe the type to do that..but i feel shyne, its either ten in the pen for sinin or the stop of your heart rythym, ya kno...i jus wanna send a big fock you out to all u haters talkin mad shit a bout a nigga u know nothing about, u know yall wouldnt have the nuts to say it in his face..so on his behalf, being a real nigga myself..fock yall, hes rich bitch, after ten its the getto fab again.
