Hi,
For whatever reason I can't log into the chat room so this will have to go here. I've listened to the show off and on for a while now so I was surprised to hear the statements yall made on voting in this election.
What surprised me what not that yall would encourage people to participate in electoral politics but your insistence that people who have decided not to are lazy, apathetic or otherwise deficient. You even go so far as to ridicule young brothers who state flat out that they don't see what effect it will have on their lives. "That doesn't matter, you just have to be counted." What?? You can't be serious by responding to someone's concerns like that because you choose to be a part of that process. Say anything else, yall, but that doesn't matter. People not thinking they matter just might be why so many continue to opt out. (Not to mention Kerry's recent declaration to carry on and win this nations's "war on terror".)
I'll give you credit for not throwing "vote or die" in the brothers' faces. But I'm hoping one day yall will see the value of including the opinions of people who choose not to vote in discussions about political change in this country. I mean really, that perspective is almost never heard and taken seriously even though so many people - particularly black people - hold it.

I agree that the perspective of non-voters needs to be taken seriously, but I don't think you're giving an accurate portrayal of how we've covered this issue on our show. You seem to be basing your assessment on one off-the-cuff remark last night from our DJ Emskee, and reading a lot more into that remark than what was actually said.
I don't know how often you have listened to us during this election season but we have addressed this at great length on many shows, both in discussions between myself, G-Man and the DJs, and in interviews with guests including Scienz of Life, Open Thought and Oktober (who was representing the perspective on a non-voter, and whom we actually convinced to vote during our interview by stressing the importance of voting specifically for people of color, in a historical context).
Last night I did not rehash the many angles we've already taken on whether to vote, mainly because our signal area is basically locked up for Kerry anyway. So I thought it was more useful to A) Encourage people who are already engaged to help get out the vote in swing states.. and B) Encourage everyone to keep their attention and energy focused on what happens after the election because no matter who wins, anyone who holds progressive principles will face an uphill battle trying to get those principles upheld by either of these Skull and Bones alumni.
