My Red Sox/Yankeees Dilemma

As neither a Yankee nor a Red Sox fan, I find myself inclined to simply root for the outcome that will cause the least suffering. Which in this brutally one-sided rivalry means rooting for the Sox and their long-tortured fans.

But as a New Yorker, I am haunted by a fear that if Boston finally beats NY for once, they will never freaking shut up about it. So I'm torn.

new haven is pretty evenly split between yankees and red sox fans. (ct tends to go to boston, but we have a lot of italian americans who have a lot of love for the yankees and the bronx. we are also the part of ct that is very close to the City, so a lot of new haveners mistakenly believe we are the 6th borough). so the rivalry is pretty intense here, too. so, i confront a similar dilemma: i just dont care. what to do? reality tv, google news, and obsessively reading ahem blogs.

Regarding the supposed riot that might have happened. If you think anyone in the high price seats were going to jump on the field, you're crazy. No ones gonna risk there season tickets over a call by the umps.

They should have rioted. The problem is too many corporate seats and white collar workers who dont attend games during the season can afford the playoff tickets. Therefore, nobody gets rowdy anymore. Yankee Stadium is becoming almost like a golf course. FUCK THE RED SOX. LONG LIVE THE EVIL EMPIRE!!!!

Yankee fan since 1976. Yea 76 when we got swept by the Reds.

As a Sox fan, nothing made me happier than A-Rod's play last night. What a jackass, selfish move. Put Jeter back on 1st instead of in scoring position. I've had it with Yankees fans just assuming that winning is a birthright. You've earned it, Yankees, and I respect that, but c'mon. If a call (correctly) doesn't go your way, play the damn game! After the phantom double-play in the '99 series vs. the Sox, Jeffrey Meier's phantom HR, getting Ortiz called out in game 6 when he was clearly safe, etc. there's just no room to bitch.

As for the Sox fans never shutting up, Jay, I kind of disagree. I think that it'll be talked about for quite awhile, but all us Sox fans just want to win. We know we can't sit there and rub Yankees' fans noses in it, because you've still won 26 rings and the Sox have zilch. We just want the one.

And finally (sorry for the rant guys), can we ask for a moratorium on newspaper columnists calling athletes "heroes" or "courageous"? I understand why they do, and maybe if there wasn't a war on it couldn't chafe as much, but c'mon. Save those words for people impacting the millions who need help in society or for those putting their lives on the line.

Schilling: gutsy, yes. Ballsy, yes. Heroic, not quite.

The way I see it, the Red Sox are the scrappy underdog from New England who is never given a chance (Kerry), while the Yankees represent the powerful, the rich, greedy megacorporation that will buy its way to the top at all costs (Bush). So all I gotta say is......GO SOX! (although I could really care less either way)

All I know is these Met's fans are the biggest scumbags I've ever seen. How can anybody from NY in their right mind ever root for the Sox?! If it was the Met's facing the Sox in the Series I would root for the Met's any day over Boston, it's like a reflex. What a bunch of haters, we haven't won the Series in 3 years and their still mad. I know that's not as bad as 18 years or 86 for that matter but get over it.
