My Election Nightmare
I've been nerdily sifting through all the horse race data at electoral-vote.com and elsewhere, then plugging in the most likely results on this interactive map (that 1115.org is using for a nifty little contest). I stumbled onto one scenario that scares the crap out of me.
I suspect Kerry's got the popular vote on lock. But if Bush carries Ohio and Florida, while Kerry takes most of the other swing states, we could easily wind up with the results pictured above, adding up to:
A tie in the electoral college, which leaves it all up to our House of Representatives (whoever is the newly elected batch for 2005). I'm sure you can guess how that would pan out.
Hopefully this won't happen, but I'm reserving a bus ticket to Montreal just in case.

I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but John Kerry's sister made regular visits to Canada over the summer in an attempt to gain support from Americans studying and working up north. How important are the votes of Americans abroad? Will they have any impact?

Ohio is looking Dem, so you know...

Speaking of the House (and the Senate for that matter), the only way I could tolerate a Bush victory would be if the House and Senate went completely Democratic. Just like in '96, when Clinton beat Dole but Gingrich took control of Congress, it would be an uphill battle for Bush, one that I wouldn't mind seeing happen over four year's time. Dubya's got it too easy right now-- let's see how much fun he has if he keeps getting blocked by the opposing party.

Tim Russert's been mentioning that possibility on Meet the Press; apparently there are a couple of other ways the 269-269 thing could happen. Every time he brings it up, some pundit is like, "Don't even mention that." It's totally going to happen.

Man you come up here your gonna have to deal with a corrupt self serving liberal government, and a slew of voters to afraid of voting for something else. Not to mention the bloc in Quebec. Besides that what would happen to your radio show!!!!

Our city (Montreal) is dying. We have no well-paying jobs, we just closed one of our airports, and we lost our baseball team. We'll take newcomers, but you must be willing to put up with a lot of bullshit. If you can handle Bush for four years then you can handle our pathetic government.

I read Kerry also has a relative organizing out in Australia.

Check it. We can all admit that Canada is going to be seeing a burst of american immigration. If Bush continues with his warmongering, he's going to have to get more troops. Draft anyone?
