November 18, 2004Enough of this Bulls**t AlreadyIt's hard to start blogging again when all the news is stuff you don't want to talk about. I am sick to death of this cancerous thug ethos that has plagued the culture for so long. And as I asked in someone else's blog, why are Suge Knight or his people ever invited to anything nowadays, besides a retirement home? They've always been a disgrace to hip-hop, and at this point they haven't put out a relevant record in years, so why is anyone still tolerating their presence? hip hop is said to be a dangerous game and all that shit but that only depends on who u are and who u have beef with....shit like this is what give rap that "violent" image...dont worry! me and my team are o the rise and we are gonna help fix this bullshit hip hop...along with the BS rappers that have nothing to talk about except money and girls...holla at me if u wanna hear our music!! Posted by: Special Teams at November 18, 2004 08:48 PM I hear ya, man, I hear ya... Posted by: Ahmed at November 18, 2004 09:29 PM Vibe magazine from the very begining wanted some controversy. Why else invite Suge and his crew. Vibe magazine gets free publicity. Its the nature of the business. Posted by: oneight at November 18, 2004 09:57 PM Oh good gawd not again... Posted by: sandeep chauhan at November 19, 2004 01:14 AM In the immortal words of Megadeth... "Peace sells... but who's buying?" Posted by: eric at November 19, 2004 04:07 AM I don't know-- VIBE is Quincy Jones' baby, and maybe an invitation to Tha Row was an expression of good will, one that Suge undoubtedly took advantage of. Suge is the most passive-agressive thug on the planet-- he steadfastly denies everything he's been involved with, which in his case makes it even more obvious that he was involved. I hope Quincy's private mafia (and I believe, maybe erroneously, that he has to have one, having been in the music game for way longer than a puke like Suge Knight) gets fed up and blacklists Suge from the hip-hop game. Quincy, in my opinion, is a made man, and Suge did a huge disservice to a man like Q who has connections that are far-reaching and powerful. It's one thing to crash The Source Awards-- you think Benzino and co. would tell Suge to step off? Hell no. But Quincy... that guy knows some heavywieghts. Maybe Q should give his old buddy Tommy Mottola a call, and things will get "handled" in a less open forum behind the scenes. Posted by: James at November 19, 2004 05:08 AM there's your answer right there in James' comment. the industry is as big a part of the entertainment as the music. people love that drama... even when they're trying to come down against it... the context of his comments are still that same old thug bullshit. the people running the show aren't fools. they know the whole thing falls apart without the mythology, so they set the cast accordingly. ...over and over again. Posted by: at November 19, 2004 07:28 PM I actually don't like the drama (RIP Tupac and B.I.G.) and I'm not afraid to let my wallet back those words up. Posted by: Ryan at November 20, 2004 10:15 PM But who's running the show? The Man? Suge Knight? The Media, left-wing or right-wing? To imply that rap is "being run" by The Powers That Be, as opposed to just being disorganized and chaotic, is more dramatic than any thug scenario that an MC can concoct. People compain about hip-hop being co-opted by the mainstream, but when something problematic like this occurs, there's a fear of being seen as "ignorant" by that same mainstream. Thank God most online heads know that it's Suge who's trippin', and not the rest of the industry... although Young Buck was pretty foolish to be waving that blade around like that. Posted by: James at November 22, 2004 03:27 AM suge was not INVITED. he showed up, and got in. imagine being the dude at the door when suge walks up. on one level, you immediately know dude and would assume he'd be invited to such an event. on the other hand, you don't want to be the dude trying to tell him "no", because he doesn't have the proper credentials. but celebrities abuse their celebrity all the time to get into places and get things they want. there are tons of actors highly KNOWN for eating at the best spots in town and leaving without paying for the check. imagine you, some part time waiter making a scene because Robert Deniro isn't upping the cheese. Exactly, your boss would probably have you fired. If the Vibe and all these other award shows and events are sincere about wanting to protect the integrity of their event, then need to be a little more stringent about who actually gets through the doors. Whether it be Suge Knight, or some dude name Chemical Ali.
