In the meantime, has anyone in blogville already tied together how race plays into both the Piston fan riot and the Terrell Owens/Nicolette Sheridan puritan freakout? And into coverage of Artest and Owens in general? And how pundits keep blaming the riot on something they call the "hip-hop mindset?"

Welcome back Jay. I'm enjoying my NAMTC very much, thank you. Possible scenario: Indy trades Artest to the Knicks, thus voiding the Frederic Weiss debacle. The Players Association gets his suspension shortened (bank on it...), and the Coney Island Kid and The Bridge get NY into the 2nd round of the playoffs, with Isiah riding the bench.

I live in Montreal and when I saw all of this hype on the American news I laughed. What is the big deal America? Sometimes I wonder if perhaps Janet Jackson were a white woman that maybe not as many invectives would have been thrown--I could be wrong. I also think that if perhaps Nicolette Sheridan were black her appearance on Monday Night Football would not have been a big deal. Let's not forget her upcoming sex scene with Richard Roundtree. If he were a white man, no one on the American news channel would have made a big deal about the filming of their sexy encounter on Desperate Housewives. There was also the controversy surrounding the sex scene on the show LAX between Heather Locklear and Blair Underwood--another fictional interracial couple being very intimate on television. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that sex (whether softcore or hardcore) is always very public on American television it's just that no one talks about it--interracial couples are not on that plateaux yet. But then again I live in a city where nudity and sex--interracial or not--on television (after decent hours of course) is not a huge deal. This is just my outside view looking in.

Isn't the whole of America and what it believes it stands for violence ridden -all attempts at covering up aside? Y'all (at least your presidents) are a bunch of warmongerers! No? Okay so i'm europeanly generalizing :) Seriously though, people who talk about the incident and the so-called hip-hop mindset (what in hell is that anyway?) do so because they see yet another opportunity to vilify 'hip hop' (or the players involved in the incident) and implicitly tell you guys that their mindset is of superior nature.
