Some people have asked after the rally what is the next target?

I think the target is the same but need to be better defined. We've all been going after the DJ's, but you know they were just the messangers.

Some people have said that we're going on a crusade to crucify the DJs, but I think it seems like that because on the surface they look like the ones responsible. I agree that they share some responsibility because they should have known better and should have said something. In fact I think they should have made a public statement independently from the radio station.

But my stance on the situation has been the same since the beginning, I think the people who are responsible should be brought to account for their actions. This includes executives at HOT97.

So I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in, I think regardless of what happens with the DJs we shouldn't let up until HOT97/Emmis are held responsible. Don't let them throw their DJs at us as scapegoates, there must be other who share in the responsiblity but who aren't in the spotlight.

One thing I noticed from this whole fiasco is how embarrased I get sometimes for being Asian. Some of the posts on this site by Asians make me cringe just as I'm sure many blacks cringed when they heard the Hot97 show.

This IS NOT about Asians vs Blacks. This is not about AzIaN pRYDe (for the love of god, do NOT spell it that way or use the alternating caps). Do not try to talk internet street and act at all hardcore. Seeing this stuff just sends chills down my spine.

Yes the DJs were black, but the only thing important about that is since they are also a minority they should know how racism affects people negatively. Otherwise it doesn't matter. They don't represent their entire race. You can see from this web page alone that there are plenty of blacks that crusade against racism (and I thank them for it). Being black does not immediately exclude them from being not racist either.

This is about three major things. The first is how the staff of the radio show are racist. There's no doubt that they were slinging anti-Asian racism on their show. By Miss Jones' exchange with Miss Info, it's obvious Miss Jones has bought into the "model minority" myth (such a "good" minority that they might as well not be considered a minority) and feels that racism against Asians is acceptable because of that. But while Asians are prevalent in higher education, we're still a smaller minority by far than blacks. We still get discriminated against like crazy. We still suffer through racism. We just do not have a political voice as powerful so we're forced to just suck it up most of the time.

Second, these people have no decency to human suffering. It's not really funny mocking 200,000 deaths. And then mocking children's suffering? Very funny. And would most people believe that black DJs would find the issue of being sold into SLAVERY funny? I wouldn't have thought so, but I guess I was wrong.

Finally, their superiors are money grubbing enough to resort to these tactics to hope to gain more viewership as evidenced by it being on the air AND as evidenced by the fact that they wanted to just give out a very weak "public" punishment. If the producers did not approve and probably sanction such an event Miss Jones and Todd Lynn would have been fired on the spot. See all the recent controversial things that snuck up on the air. Instant dismissal. Why not dismiss them even though they're losing sponsors? Probably because this was given their blessings.

So again, the only issues important here are
1) The morning show staff's racism and lack of decency.
2) The producers' approval of such a thing.

As a proud asian, I for one don't condone any racial comments...including the ignorant comments a few asians have left. I hope everyone reading any offensive comments made by any asian is strictly their opinion and does not reflect asians as a whole and vice versa. Just because a person of color was racist and ignorant, does not paint the picture for every other person of color also. It also does not give asians the right to also become racial and insult and generalize every other person of color because of the 2 idiots on Hot97.

Insulting them and making racial comments makes us no different and in some ways makes asians looks like hypocrites to be crying over racial comments yet at the same time, making racial comments in return to express ourselves.

It's a shame that Miss Jones had to seek so low as to get ratings and a cheap laugh. Anything she says after the fact are just lame attempts to keep her job. A job which I hope she loses. She's obviously defending herself and making up poor excuses just like the excuse she gave for running "The Tsunami Song" over and over again throughout the week in the first place. Speaks alot about her character and integrity...of which she has neither.

Hot 97�s morning show sought to build on racial deviseness that has reared its ugly stupid head in chinese delivery man bashing for the last two years. I think the whimpy coverage in the mainstream media counts for nothing. I have seen no meaningful discussion of what went on for a week on Hot 97 in the mainstream media, although I have read the, as usual, superficial statements in the NY Daily News, NY Post, NY Newsday, which mostly just copied shit from AP and Reuters..

Perhaps more effective voices are needed in the asian new york community, too, since the organization that announced the demonstration proceeded to let one of its members shoot it in the foot. The sole reason that I didn't attend the demonstration on Friday was that there was a clear statement made that only student activists and members of established Asian rights groups were welcome. (Student organizations and activist asian organizations were invited to communicate, while anyone else who attended the demonstration �may� be turned away; I am quite certain that�s why there were 100 people there instead of 10,000.) I look forward to the next demonstration when the rest of us can attend and express our views, particularly against Emmis Communications, and the interests represented by them.

I want you to tell me when there is a legitimate demonstration that working people can attend. I listed to the f-up tsunami song, and to jin's response multiple times. I do not believe in coincidences, such that Japan became China's penultimate trading partner, and that China suddenly lost faith in the dollars.

People like Ms. Jones and Mr. Lynn have permitted themselves to be used to destroy the context of indulgence for individuality that my generation was devoted to. If Jones and Lynn were not the masterminds behind this and coerced to do it from management, do you think that they should still be fired?

It's not like radio personalities have never objected, on air, to the crap they're forced to play (and still kept their job afterwards). But they defended the playing of the song, even resorting to more racism to justify it. So they deserve to be fired.

As far as the first ammendment right to free speech, that is not the issue here. Nobody is trying to take away Miss Jones's freedom of speech. We are just trying to remove her disgusting opinions and sense of humor from our airwaves by getting the people paying for her little platform to stop doing so. Hosting a radio show and speaking over the airwaves is a PRIVELEGE, not a right, and priveleges can get taken away when they are not deserved.

Here's a point I think some of us can argue with the FCC. Up to this point they haven't fined HOT97 because they've only been concerned with Obscenity and Indecency, which by definition has to deal with sexual content. However I grabbed this off the FCC's site.

"Profane material is defined as including language that denotes certain of those personally reviling epithets naturally tending to provoke violent resentment or denoting language so grossly offensive to members of the public who actually hear it as to amount to a nuisance.

Like indecency, profane speech is prohibited on broadcast radio and television between 6am and 10pm"

Hey look at that, profanity is prohibited between 6AM and 10PM, exactly the time of HOT97's morning show.
