I think this whole episode just highlights the insensitivity of american governing institutions to tragedies outside the US. WQHT/Hot 97's Miss Jones and the Morning Show is scheduled to be back on the airwaves on Wednesday, Feb. 9 after a two-week suspension for airing "The Tsunami Song", a parody of "We are the World" with despicable lyrics that include "Go find your mommy. I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head." The song was aired more than once during the week. Only after angered listeners and the community protested and sent angry emails to advertisers did the station issue an apology. In reality, they only reacted after their pockets were hit. Since then, Emmis Broadcasting, the station's parent company, has suspended the entire staff of the Morning Show and promised to donate $1 million dollars to the tsunami relief fund. Last week, Todd Lynn and Producer Rick Delgado were fired and it seems that they are the only persons who have taken the fall for this incident. But that is not enough! I believe other executives were involved; they would have had to give the thumbs up to such a project and let the song continually play during the week. This song has now been heard around the globe, including those areas affected by the tsunami. And even the British Parliament has denounced the song, where's the FCC been in all this? The song first aired on January 18, how embarrassing.

Since this incident, I have taken Hot 97 off as my pre-set stations. They were previously the first on my dial. But I have a choice and Hot 97's programming is no longer one of them. I was surprised to see how many other stations I found in my area that played similar music. I am no longer a Hot 97 listener and I have the morning show to thank for introducing me to the other stations. I urge other listeners to do the same.

Why is it that I find an article about complaints to the FCC about how "boring" the SuperBowl Halftime Show was, but nothing about complaints to the FCC about this atrocity?
