AUDIO: A Conversation With Jeff Chang
Here, finally, are some excerpts from my interview with Jeff Chang, also featuring Hashim of hiphop.blogs.com. In the first few minutes of part one you'll also hear an excerpt of Jeff's "Can't Stop Won't Stop" mix cd:
- Part One - 6mb: The politics of abandonment, containment and assimilation; Letting artists be artists and leaders be leaders.
- Part Two - 4mb: Hashim and Jeff on the importance of the 1971 gang peace treaty.
- Part Three - 5mb: How hip-hop died and was reborn in 1979.

yo these events bring to the table the fact that corporation owned media needs to be recognized for what it is - a pimping factory.
the fact that corporation owned media has little regard for quality content, exemplified that they allow somebody as ignorant and representative of negative additudes such as Ms Jones to take to the airwaves DEMANDS A UNIFIED PERMANENT BOYCOTTING.
I hoped Zulu Nation and other organized protesters would have approached the organized response with a much more aggressively militant and decisive response - BAN HOT 97 4 EVER

i still dont get it. how is it bigger than those 3 minutes? and all im saying is: everyone seems to be concentrated on one radio station, which has had that one offensive song. i mean, mad tv had a skit a couple of years ago which i found offensive, yet people werent holding rallies every other week nor any "mad tv is racist" comments. all im saying is: shouldnt we prioritize, going after organizations that do more than a couple of offensive segment(s) first? at the very least, shouldnt we be paying more attention to racism elsewhere besides hot97?

This coalition is saying it's not only about those 3 minutes, the Tsunami song is just one of many ways that Hot 97 regularly misrepresents and exploits hip-hop culture.
When I said "the last few days" that was in reference to the 50 Cent/Game incident, in which you heard Funkmaster Flex feeding into the beef and reveling in it, right up until the moment those chickens came home to roost in front of their studio.

well true, but the little image says "stop racist hot 97". the game beef or funk flex or whatever may not represent hip-hop culture, but its not "racist".

Regarding the strict focus on racism in the title: to get messages through the soundbyte driven mass media, you gotta have as narrow a focus a possible..

Yes, but you gotta fight the battles one at a time.. Star and Buc's time will come, and so on.. making your aim too broad diffuses the message.. like I said, gotta have narrowly focused talking points to make the evening news and such.
