March 16, 2005Is the Death of Hip-Hop Dead?Sinsurr David eulogizes the eulogy. Gotta love any piece that quotes Tuff City's Aaron Fuchs. The "Death" of Hip-HopPosted by jsmooth995 at March 16, 2005 01:56 PM | TrackBack Comments
The article is entertaining read. Its is fun to read. However, I can't help disagreeing with it. For starters, he says the rap in the beginning was mostly postive. There is no doubt the capitalism was also involved. However, he says that because, rap/hip hop came from the streets, it was never a positive thing. I disagree or maybe I read it wrong. In a capitalist society, everyone has to make money some sort of way. Also, just because music is from the streets does not justify the sell-out gangsta image that is so always presented. In a way the mostly positive hip-hop he mention that used to exist, is no longer main stream. It is almost dead. I will say that he is right about a lot of point though. For one, hip hop is different from reigion to region. However, must disagree that all hip hop around the world copies American topics or drugs, violence, etc. Actually, working with some hip hop cats around the world, I disagree completely. Every, country has their own story to tell in their own culture. So, although the article does take a look at both sides of the "dead" argument, I still have to say that what hip-hop was is no more. However, regionally, there is a still a huge difference in message and approach. Posted by: Shaft at March 16, 2005 09:44 PM HOW COME PEOPLE AREN'T MAD THAT THEY THREW OUT BIGGIES MURDER CASE LAST WEEK!!! Posted by: The Sp1200 at March 18, 2005 12:16 AM Pretty words. But the iconoclast in me (c) Jay Smooth, doesn't want to agree. He drops one neatly wrapped package, "the rise and fall", and picks up another one, "regionalization". But people don't talk about the death of hip hop for reasons of region, they talk about the death of hip hop, because something is wrong with commercial radio hip hop in 2005. In essence, he side steps the real problem/concern that internal hip hop critics have of hip hop. And that to me, is dishonest. As far as the "capitalism" part goes, I'm not a Marxist or an economist, but money was involved @ every stage of the game. Records ain't free. Posted by: k. orr at March 21, 2005 02:15 AM Hip -Hop is not dead infact it remains a true expression of lyrical talent. The Just released Street Ciphers DVD proves this with the raw uncensored footage of hip-hop hungry artist striving to be the best. The artist many who have now gone on to sign contracts were caught on tape in live rap ciphers in the hood and raw. This is what hip hop is all about. When ciphers are dropped for pride and being the best lyrically. No reheresal no fake drama , real battles shot on site. Battles so intense some turn ugly. But pride is the ultimate victor and this cannot be duplicated. Street Ciphers is the hottest underground hip-hop dvd out. Its collection of the signed and unsigned artist reinvents hip-hop from where it originated.. the hood. A reawakening and a must have for the true rap fan. The site remains www.streetciphers.com Also check out the new u/a Billboard as well. www.streetciphers.com/unsignedartistbillboard.htm Posted by: streetciphers at March 29, 2005 05:04 AM Aaron Fuchs is a scum bag. He did not write the Spoonie Gee stuff on Jayquan.com, has fucked artists out of everything including the kitchen sink and never had anything more to do with Tuff City than borrow money to start the label and put his name on the corporate documents.
