Will Smith's Larry Elder/Wendy Williams Dis Record

Trickology the audio of Will Smith's dis track "Mr. Nice Guy," right here. I think I kind of.. umm.. like it. There, I said it. Check the second verse:

Will's a nice guy
Well he's so nice I'd
Let him date my daughter like he was a white guy
Not like the rest, he's a private flight guy
Well if I were gay on Friday night I'd...
Larry Elder (Uncle Tom)
You lucky I didn't make you the whole damn rhyme
Wendy Williams, you don't know me
I'm not your punching bag, you won't blow me
Up, girl better leave me alone
Before I buy your radio station and send ya home
This a warning show over the bough
Truth be told this ain't my style
You gotta understand some stuff a man can't allow
Better chill before you climb a tree you can't get down
Okay, people dissing Will sat on a wall
People dissing Will had a great fall
All the King's horses and all the King's men
Couldn't put none of their careers together again
Ya get it?

Would it be a faux pas for me to ask who ghost-wrote this?

just reading the verses, I hear Jay Z's voice - anyone else?

Posted by: wax at March 22, 2005 11:33 AM

I don't know it kinda sound like eminem

Posted by: adrianna at March 22, 2005 12:29 PM

Actually my guess is that Will wrote the 2nd verse himself, and someone else hit him off with the 1st.

Posted by: Jay Smooth at March 22, 2005 02:51 PM

He makes up for this song being not bad by reaching new depths of wackness on his "Loretta" Stan clone. It makes "Boom Shake the Room" sound gully.

Posted by: Anil at March 22, 2005 08:51 PM

Stop the hate. You all act like Will can't do good on his own credentials. Even if he didn't write the song, I couldn't give the slightest damn. Maybe Will's right, just because he's a nice guy people don't take him seriously. And that's why nice guys don't get far in the game, and that's why BULLSHIT artists are so good at spreading hate - because nobody's there to fuckin' question them. In other words, people like y'all are the real root of violent music. So fuckin' check yourselves.

Dude, I said I liked it..

Are we supposed to know what the Will Smith-Larry Elder-Wendy Williams beef is about?

In fact, who are Larry Elder and Wendy Williams?

Posted by: stayhuman at March 23, 2005 10:13 AM

I had to think long and hard why I had a problem with the song. I fully agree the lyrics are funny & on point, but IMHO there's something a little... well, wrong about all of this. It's just weird to see a guy who pretty much made his name as a gimmicky rapper who talked about comic stuff suddenly go all hard. (Glad someone mentioned "Boom Shake the Room," so you know what I'm talking about)
There's an expression, "The best revenge is your own success." Smith is a multimillionare A-list star with a TV series that's still in syndication. He hobnobs with the Hollywood elite and is a household name. Why on earth is he picking a beef with Wendy Williams?
I know times have changed, but for me hip hop and battle rhymes were always about the underdog. Will Smith is hardly an underdog, and quite frankly, with his upper-middle class Philadelphia upbringing, to me he never really was. He was a funny guy and a talented artist, no question, but not really an underdog (except maybe in his persona as the Fresh Prince.)
Don't get me wrong, I like Smith, I think he's a talented actor and an extremely savvy businessman, and I applaud him for that and wish him well. But for a guy who once wondered in an interview "why groups like Public Enemy had to scream at people all the time," I think he's being a bit of a hypocrite.
Just my opinion...

Posted by: Kami at March 23, 2005 10:22 AM

I'm guessing that Will felt like he had to do this to protect Jada's honor since that is who Wendy has been going after in a bigger way. Even yesterday, Wendy (who I love and think is a great tallent, btw) was saying that Jada was only A-list by virtue of being married to Smith. She also dismissed his threats of buying her station by pointing out that she's syndicated and carried in multiple cities. Wendy hasn't made all that big of a deal out of this. It seems like she thinks it aint much of a story, and unless this song starts getting radio play, I think she's right.

Posted by: Jane at March 24, 2005 10:29 AM

Larry Elder has a talk-radio show. Dude's a staunch Republican.

Will Smith vs Larry Elder? What's next, 50 Cent vs Bono?

Posted by: b-psycho at March 24, 2005 02:45 PM

Bono would get in 50's ass

Posted by: Cali Chronic at March 24, 2005 05:03 PM

Larry Elder is based here in L.A. he has a radio show on 790 KABC. I listen to him because he does have some good points...at times. I also listen because I always want to know what the enemy is saying. He's Black, went to Crenshaw High, but is so far from a man interested and concerned about Black culture that he's now considered the poster child for what white "neo-conservatism" is all about. According to him, only Democrats can do wrong, Republicans have all the answers.

Jamie Foxx also mentioned him in his Image Awards speech.

Posted by: joy at March 26, 2005 03:17 PM

I Think Jada Wrote That Verse.

Posted by: polo at March 26, 2005 03:36 PM

Actually, Larry Elder has said things about Republicans too. Read his books.

It's not the same Larry Elder who has a daytime talk show on Fox where he receives couples in trouble and out-of-control teens, right?

At what point do you get real and stop hating. Willie has made classic joints. Remember "Brand New Funk" and "A Touch of Jazz". His last album had great cuts on it like "Block Party" and "Act Like You Know". My only beef with him is that he didn't smash feminem back in 2000. And yes, I spell em's name with a f cause that's all he is.

Just fuckin jealous of Will Smith, none of ya'll Punk ASS are doing what he doing. Haters:SHUT THE FUCK UP

Posted by: LEO at March 30, 2005 12:44 PM

I think Will is doing his thing and people should respect the man for being and rapper and not only that, but a positive rapper. He's clean and nice what more do people want from a person. I say leave the man alone

Posted by: ecsukid04 at March 30, 2005 12:50 PM

Much respect and love for Will Smith to have the courage to keep comin' back at all these jealous, envious and scandalous people. Will could rap circles around anyone in the game and he wrote those verses himself. Big Willie style went diamond, so he is a heavy hitter. Will is one of the few "artists" out there who still portrays creativity. He's not just comin' out with a track with a cookie cutter beat talkin' about ridin' on the same rims that everyone is and wearin' the same ass jewelery as everyone else. And as far as Wendy Williams, she's just jealous of Jada being big since 1989 when she was BEST FRIENDS with TUPAC (Check "Tupac:Resurrection)and they even made a video to "Parents Just Don't Understand" by none other than Will Smith aka Fresh Prince. Keep it up, Will. You truly are Born 2 Reign.

Posted by: just2much at March 30, 2005 06:18 PM

To the poster who likes to pretend that people hate on Will just cause he's a nice guy rapper, then please explain all the love and respect people have for other "nice guy rappers" like Tribe, De La, The Roots, and so on and so on....

Posted by: Shatda at March 30, 2005 08:09 PM

I have never been a big Will Smith rapper fan, my favorites or Em, 50, the game, dre, but after hearing this album I think Smith is good, he can spit some fast rhymes and not have to say the f bomb all the time. Smith is the man.

Posted by: Shane at March 30, 2005 11:46 PM

First of all, to the guy who keeps defending Will, who are you defending him against? I haven't read anything bad about him on here. Well, till right now. Eminem would kill Will in a battle, I mean come on, does he even mention Em's name in Mr. Nice Guy? Once? Maybe? I don't consider "a future threat of a diss" much of a diss, a response, or anything but jack shit, dick tucked in between his legs garbage. And as for winning the first grammy for Rap, do you think a bunch of old white guys would seriously give it to actual hardcore rappers or the soft, pop rap image of the Fresh Prince? Will is the Britney Spears of Rap, accept it, move on.

Posted by: Roman at March 31, 2005 01:28 AM

Roman,

Hasn't Em has won a grammy?

Posted by: Shane at March 31, 2005 01:38 AM

He won 9, but Will won it like, a long time ago, when rap became a category. I don't know for sure, but if we're counting awards, Em's already got the Oscar Will's been crying for, even if it is for his song.

Posted by: Roman at March 31, 2005 02:27 AM

Will's not cryin' for an oscar. Em didn't get the oscar for acting, he got it for the song. And Eminem's lucky Will even paid attention to his weak diss. Will's got the highest average ever for opening weekends in Hollywood's history. Listen to the track, he was busy makin' $20 mil a movie. Plus, Will worked with Dr. Dre on the Bad Boys II movie score and I'm sure Dre knows Will's got skills. Em's got skills on the mic but Will would kill him in a freestyle battle that isn't scripted for Hollywood. Will's been rhymin' since the early 1980's. And back when Will won the first Grammy to open the door for Rap into main stream America, Rap had substance. It wasn't covered in rented jewelery and leased whips. There's no need for me to say anything more, Will's success speaks for itself.

Posted by: just2much at March 31, 2005 05:08 AM

Its Big Willie Style all in it.. Getting Jiggy Wit It!

Posted by: PQu at March 31, 2005 05:19 AM

"Plus, Will worked with Dr. Dre on the Bad Boys II movie score and I'm sure Dre knows Will's got skills."

Plus, Will has a song featuring Snoop Dogg on Lost&Found. Plus, Will has a song featuring Mary J Blige. Plus, in response to the Oscar he's been crying for, keep your damn mouth shut. If he really wanted an Oscar, don't you think he'd try other movies than blockbusters and feelgood movies as a black man? Because despite what you may think, I still think it's harder for a black man to receive an Oscar unless you put down some mindblowing performances like Jamie Foxx in Ray. The only movie Will might've deserved an Oscar for was Ali, but I hardly think he's crying for one. Other than that, even though I think Eminem makes nice songs, I also believe him to be the most overrated rapper of this day and age. So he can be a clown AND serious. So can Will. At least Will's rhymes don't involve bling-bling money ain't a thing, as pointed out by others.

He's making feelgood music like his feelgood movies, and he's got my support.

Posted by: Mark at March 31, 2005 07:09 AM

Yall need to cut all that hating. Will Smith wrote all that. They're jus warning shots. This aint no rocket science. It aint hard to figure out. Will is made, and simply is back to taunt these peeps and show 'em whose boss.

Posted by: K A at March 31, 2005 01:09 PM

aside from being corny, the rap is publicity for wendy and larry. people who don't know who they are, will seek them out. and as wendy says, 'thou who protest too much has something to hide.' will, HOW YOU DOING?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wendynistas/promote

Posted by: wendynista at March 31, 2005 03:00 PM

All right, when I say Will is crying for an Oscar, I meant he cares so much about how people perceive him that he needs that public recognition, whereas Em doesn't. And the "diss" you're referring to, "Will Smith doesn't need to swear in his rap records, but I do, so fuck him and fuck you too" refers to a comment where Will won like an mtv or grammy award for Rap and went up and said "Thank you, I did it and I showed everybody you can make a rap album without swearing." Em's response was a mockery of that in that Will is so self-censored and geared towards everybody liking him, Aka, he's a phoney and fake, he CAN'T allow himself to swear. Whereas Em pretty much says it how it is, whether there's swearing or not, and his music has more substance and truth to it. Listen, it's not like I hate Will, I just think in terms of music, he hasn't had half the impact of Eminem. At least in my opinion. And Will Smith killing Em in a freestyle? What are you on man? Will is a good rapper in his own right, but he's wayyyyy out of his element in this area. If he was so good, where was his response? He barely said anything, and his comment about his millions just cements my opinion that he's yet another Hollywood / Music industry fake-ass product. Showing that your worth is measured in dollar signs is pretty weak. Em got the recognition and didn't give a shit about it either way.

Posted by: Roman at March 31, 2005 11:00 PM

I'm a fan of em and will, there so different. I understand how will took a shot at larry elder, because larry elder took a shot at will first about what he said about aids. Him and em are both cool. he didn't even diss em or nothing, all he basically said is he walked right by him, not even glancing at him, thats not a diss. This whole back and forth on this board is kinda pointless..

Posted by: Shane at April 1, 2005 01:07 AM

Like I said, Will's success speaks for itself. I hope somehow someone would set up a battle so that Will could take it to Em old school style. The biggest response to adversity is to shine in the face of it, just as Will has done. Em had an impact on bringing the trash out of the woodwork in America. Congratulations Em, way to go. Em has had zero impact on me. Will has had an impact on hip-hop and the real people of America. He's got skills on the mic, on the bigscreen, and he's got a real family that's got real love for him. And to whoever said that will grew up in upperclass Philly, take a ride through West Philly some day where Will grew up. There has been around 80 shootings in the past year there alone (for that story, check bet.com) I'm leavin' you right where you stand. Big ups to Will, keep doin' your thing no matter what they say.

Will Smith and Em are two totally different people and you can be fans of both.As for wendy williams she is a radio dj in philadelphia who makes a living out of talking gossip and dissing people. she used to be on hot 97 in ny but got the boot... its about time will stood up for himself and let people know they can always mess with him.

Posted by: cc at April 1, 2005 09:53 AM

Easy PPL, im from the UK and i aint ever heard of larry elder or wendy williams. so forget them, as far as will smith n eminem is concerned, theyre 2 different kind of rappers, will smith has been rappin since the beefs of kool moe dee and bizzy bee. eminem has been rappin since the beefs of 2pac n Biggy, theyre from 2 different ends of the spectrum which is hip hop, puttin them in a battle wont prove anything, theyre both at the top of their games. they dont play the same game so them 2 havin a battle wud be pointless. will hasnt got anything to prove, if i was making $20million a movie, and was a diamond selling artist, i wudnt be botherd with wat eminem says, wat wendy or larry says, or wat this forum says. his song is there jus to make sure evryone knows their place and to show hes boss. at the end of the day im sure will has achieved great things, instead of all u haters hatin on him u need to look up to him. as for my own personal opinion i think will smith would freestyle around eminem, but eminem could diss circles around will. is Hip Hop about disses or lyrical talent? we all know the answer to that.

Posted by: Umar at April 1, 2005 10:47 AM

Slow it down people...The song Will challenge Em on the album is track #6 Lost and Found song. In this song he challenge Em about “Let’s talk about rhyme capability, Let’s talk about hip hop versatility, Let’s talk about taking the game beyond, Now how the hell we gonna have a battle of wits, Trick you ain’t armed.” Well I have to agree with Umar when he said lyrically Will would win, however, Eminem would diss the heck out of him. They are from two different school. Eminem needs the curssing and dissing to get his points across whereas Will doesn't. I stop listening to Eminen songs three years ago because of my daughter. The language in his songs are just too stronge. I like them both however.

Posted by: Asus at April 1, 2005 02:49 PM

Eminem is a little skinny white guy that got picked on and beat up in high school. Will would easily beat his arse. LOL come on now...

Posted by: Chris at April 1, 2005 07:10 PM

Eminem is a no talent piece of sh*t who sells to suburban white kids who know nothing about real hip-hop. He's had to cuss and diss to get famous on Dre's beats. Without Dre and controversy, where is he? NOWHERE! He has to pick on lame a** pop stars to get attention or talk about how his mommy never loved him. He's pathetic and the most overrated rapper in the game today.

Posted by: JasonR at April 2, 2005 01:57 AM

just2much you reflect a lot of my sentiment for Will and these people should feel honored to get an HONORABLE MENTION for from this man and I LUV his CD

Posted by: Trina at April 2, 2005 03:10 PM

These are basic facts, get out your pen and take notes:

1. Eminem would smash will smith in a rap.
2. Will smith would smash em in a fist fight.
3. Will is a better actor than rapper.
4. Eminem is a better rapper than actor.
5. Will is not worried about saying the hottest
He is just trying to make good, clean fun
music.
6. Eminem is not wack. He is an upper-level rapper
You may not like him because of who he is or
because of the unintended overrated success
nevertheless he is nice.
7. Eminem has to step his lyrical game up because
the last album wasn't all that.
8. If you think rap is only limited to "street
talk" then you are closeminded and haven't
broaden your horizon's. If you only have to
curse words and gun talk to communicate then
you will only go so far.
9. Will smith and the Eminem thing is a non-issue, let's not start beef and have rappers address politicians and what's really going on in the world.

Em, isn't shit. I am really suprised prince even turned to em's direction. Any one who wants to compair prince & Jeff to Em then... well.. check this out. Will compaired to eminem is like compairing Lamborghini to ferrari. for those who dodn't know, will would be the ferrari. sure lamborghini is fast, cool and head turning but ferrari has been around of some eighty something years & has been in race after race having yet to not finish and is far superior in technology and speed not to mention has a perfect design. when the lamborghini is in the garage having it fifteen mile Maintenance and being waxed the ferrari hasent even stopped in for fuel. bottem line is that ferrari like the Fresh Prince, is built for war at all times, even though it can be driven in the country side which it seams like will enjoys doing. When Em, The Lamborghine can only be compaired to miles per gallon and burnouts and fast in a stright line, and CAN'T over all peform.

Jeff & Prince's stuff is so differant each and every time they break out with a Lp. Having said that, what the hell are E'ms last couple records even about. His mom, beating his wife, hates gay's
and, and, and, and ,and...Uuuu...uuu...uuu... some other shit.

by the by Will & Jeff grew up with the four original hip hop rules taging, break dancing, mc'ing and dj. em has a beat machine and makes fun of pop stars talk about shooting fish in a barrel. If anything Will & jeff need to be compaired to another respected rapper, not some litle bitch who poses for posters with his shirt off.

and if Em pushes this beef then you have to look at the backing each camp would have. Em would be power less with our dre and 50 and their joker new age studio gangesters. When Jeff & Fresh Prince could get pretty much any one they want LL. Puffy, all the old school concreat hip hoppers would side with Will, out of respect plus all jeff's street rappers out in philly would kick Loyd Banks ass... People don't fuck with America for a reason thats because we control the U.N. and do what we like. Will has pull. on the other hand Em can get discount's from his mom at Wallmart.

Chi DJ.

Well, the album's been out for almost a week now and hopefully you who are true fans have went out and copped "Lost and Found" Trina, if you're reading this, thanks for the love. The album is GREAT and hopefully we'll get to see Will and Jeff on tour this year...now everybody with me, "Oh, it's the party starter, you might have a good time but we party harder!"

Posted by: just2much at April 4, 2005 03:41 PM

I don't think Eminem is wack, you have to give him credit for coming to the rap game as a white man ,and making hit records than VANILLA ICE ......I agree that Will Smith is known for his corny lyrics, and now all of sudden you want to play hard. Why? would he care if he's making his money like that..MY Motto "What You eat don't make me shit" I think Will should go by that as well.

Posted by: Joyce at April 7, 2005 03:15 PM

Will's not suddenly tryin' to play hard. He's been playin' hard all his life. He had a record deal at 16, sitcom at 19, and movies at 21. He doesn't need to front or put on a facade like these other jokes that call themselves "Gangsta" or whatever. Let's see Eminem and 50 Cent give something positive back to the communities that they know are hard growing up in. Let's see them actually hold down a COMPLETE family and keep a love strong. Let's see them show children the truth about other ways to get out of the ghettos of America besides drugs, sex, music, or sports. If Will hadn't chose rappin' he would have gone to college on the full ride engineering scholarship he won. That's realer than rappin' every single song about how many people you're gonna kill or how many girls you gettin' every single track. That's cool once in a while, but not every single song. Will's the truth.

Posted by: just2much at April 8, 2005 12:21 AM

Will Smith is a great actor and making feel-good hip-hop is his thing. I think why people are put off by him is because time has changed. Rappers lyrical contents and styles have changed. Have you notice that when LL Cool J, who came from the same era as Will comes out with a new album, people embrace it more? That is because LL knows how to recreate himself and his style and appeal to today's standards--not 1985's standards. Honestly, no one wants to hear Mother Goose like rhymes anymore. If they did, Kool Moe Dee, Sugar Hill Gang, and Young MC would still be making hits.

The only reason Will is even getting airplay is because of his status in Hollywood. Its the same status that gave media attention to Hilary Duff's and Lindsay Lohan's CD. If Tom Cruise were to come out with a music CD, I am sure it would be just as popular as Will Smith's own.

Posted by: jaiquest at April 8, 2005 11:12 AM

This whole thing is just so simple that I don't even know why there's any discussion. Eminem is better than 90% of the rap game...period. Will Smith is a talented "actor"...nothing more, nothing less. Anybody who could even remotely place Will Smith in the same "skillz" category as Eminem is (and I'm not scared to say it) not a true hip hopper. Hands down. Will has made his contributions and will always be respected but there just is no comparison. I mean mentioning money? I don't think Em's hurting right now. So who cares. Its like comparing Suger Hill to the old Wutang or Slick Rick to the newly invented Nas...times change, music evolves and so do lyrics. There's no comparison. Will Smith in my opinion never could and never will be able to rap..he's a great artist however. Dre knows Will has no skill...quick question if a multimillion dollar hollywood actor asked you to work on some scores for a undoubtedly successful movie would you turn him down. Didn't think so

WHO CARES WHO WROTE IT!

IT'S WACK PERIOD!

Posted by: ME at April 8, 2005 03:51 PM

Then only reason people call Larry Elder a "sellout" or an "Uncle Tom" is because he doesn't goosestep to the left wing ideology that all black folks are expected to follow. The man thinks for himself. If anyone has a problem with that, then obviously they don't think for themselves.

Posted by: Ron at April 9, 2005 04:12 AM

So if y'all think Will is wack, why'd ya buy his record. Will is a hip-hop veteran, and has revolutionized the the business for 20 years. The track wan't meant to diss anyone, just to let people know that he hears them, and doesn't give a shit.

Posted by: D_Rez at April 9, 2005 06:02 PM

ok people, how about you all take a chill pill and calm down, get the facts and then judge???
All these so called "gangstas" and about 95% of you guys out there need to know this... RAP DID NOT START WITH TUPAC AND BIGGIE!!! Rap started way before that, somewhere between the 70's and 80's .Will Smith revolutionised rap and paved the way for 99% if not all the rappers out there today, including eminem, 50 cent, Ja Rule and all those "gangstas" out there. They glorify the streets, the guns, the drugs, the death, if you were actually real with the streets, born and raised in the streets, you would actually know it doesnt deserve glorification, you would know the pain of losing someone to the streets.

So guess what? They are all a bunch of posers, rap was supposed to smart, intgelligent and actually RHYME!!! nowadays, all these rappers making up words and mumbling over sentences to make it sound like it rhymes are just ignorant to what rap actually is. They have no lyrical talent and should try to get back to what it used to be.

And have you noticed how everything these rappers put out sounds exactly the same??? drugs, sex and money, and the occasional i hate my mum. Will Smith is not a "gangsta" rapper, he is not trying to be, he is a lyrical genius and will get any party started and does not need to cuss to do it.

Rap has fallen off the tracks of being smart and multi-layered, and the man to carry it back is the veteran Will Smith, he knows the game, he brought it to the masses, he will re-revolutionise hip hop like he has done in the past.

Posted by: shuga dady at April 11, 2005 08:36 AM

Personally I agree with Will Smith, and whoever wrote the words to that song. We all know that Will Smith is a nice guy, not like the other entertainers he sings about facts and life, he's the only rapper that little kids can and should listen to, his music is not about sex, drugs and killing. Not because he's a nice guy people should hit at him, people like Wendy Williams and Larry Elder, I personally think it took him too long to let them know what he's really made up of.
What goes around comes around. How do you think Will and his family felt when every one was hittig at him for no good reason. He should buy her radio station and send her HOME!
He right people are thinking because he's a nice guy, he's soft, so they can use him for a punching bay, now he's showing them he's not as soft as they think.

"Dre knows Will has no skill...quick question if a multimillion dollar hollywood actor asked you to work on some scores for a undoubtedly successful movie would you turn him down. Didn't think so."

With the millions and billions Dre has made so far? Sure enough.

I repeat. Even Snoop Dogg rhymes on some tunes with Will. It clarifies at least one thing.. Will does get respected by the people who you accuse of knowing Will has no "skillz". But then again, I also know you're convinced of your own opinion enough to never say I'm right.. like I wouldn't either in your case. It's a neverending cycle.

Posted by: Mark at April 13, 2005 10:15 AM

The problem that I see is that you guys take this whole stuff way more seriously than any of the entertainers do and they are the ones getting paid.
Will was a rapper before becoming an actor. That's probably something he enjoys doing. It's probably one of his passions, something fun and another avenue to allow his creative juices to flow. Nothing more ..nothing less.
It's human nature to want to defend yourself when you feel like you've had enough of people taking shots at you..they (entertainers) are human too!
As far as his skills go, in history there has always been somebody who has paved the way for others. Why does everything have to be a competition? Why can't a person be good in their own right...having their own style?
FYI...all rhetorical questions...just food for thought!

Agreed.

Posted by: Mark at April 15, 2005 09:55 AM

Still can't figure out what the beef is with Larry Elder? His show is OK. Is it because he talks clear and knows how to complete a sentence? Is it because he is successful and continues to show good through his life? Besides, where is Judge Judy in all this? She is awesome!! Lost&Found is awesome. Oh, and I DO totally love Eminem. He will prove to be a lasting entertainer. If only people would listen to his raps rather than just assuming all are bad by what people say rather than listening?

Posted by: Barbie at April 15, 2005 03:49 PM

How about Lyrics that actually entices your brain? Or even a song that is not about some other guy’s mama? 50 cent? That guy is a joke as is all other (in quote) Gangster Rapper. 50 cent can't have a career with out talking about someone. Ja Rule, Jadda Kiss, Nas, now Fat Joe!?!? Ever heard "robbing the Industry"? When was the last time he wrote something that required more than two brain cells. But Will is soft. Will reintroduced the lost art of Rhyme in this gangster rapper world. Why did I not use the word hip-hop? Cause its dead. Hip-hop died when people stop making songs with brains and started writing song just for its hook. I don’t think that Will might make another album like this. Lost and Found was for all who doubted his skills. Will.... Point taken.

Posted by: Sonny at April 16, 2005 10:57 AM

In this album Will Smith gives Hip Hop (or as he says it Hip Street) CPR. "Will Smith is soft case he doesn't use profanity" people say. Have you tried writing a song or even a verse with OUT a profane word? How about ALBUMSSSSSSS! But yeah sure his soft.

[INTRO]
Original - A first form from which varieties arise
An authentic work of art as opposed to an imitation or reproduction

[CHORUS]
Why should I try to sound like ya'll sound
That's what's wrong with the rap game right now
Man, it's like a circus wit a bunch of clowns
Wit a bunch of clicks I'll probably rap circles around

[VERSE 1]
I spit heatrock and I ain't talking rollin
Soon as the beat knock I'm crowd controlling
When I hear ya'll that a awful sound
I don't ride beats I take them off the ground
Land them somewhere show them the town
Even on foreign ground I let them know I'm around
I don't follow everybody when it's time to rap
At one time everybody thought the world was flat
Sounds like you that was my intention
I paid dues now dudes pay attention
I live for it even though the flicks is hittin'
Cribs sick you can see the booth from the kitchen
Speak on it cause I saw it happen
This is hip hop dawg
I ain't just rappin
Ya'll looking at a real MC
Man you couldn't check a mic for me

[CHORUS]

Why should I try to sound like ya'll sound
That's what's wrong wit the rap game right now
Why should I try to flow the way ya'll flow
Or do a show like ya'll show
Naw that ain't where my head at now
Ya'll in the hip hop lost and found
Man, that's wrong with the rap game right now
It's like a circus wit a bunch of clowns
Wit a bunch of clicks
I'll probably rap circles around

[VERSE 2]
Let's talk about rhyme capability
Let's talk about hip hop versatility
Let's talk about taking the game beyond
Now how the hell we gon have a battle of wits
Trick you ain't armed
Let's talk about love for the game
I mean real love
Back before there was fame
I'm real wit it
I ain't claiming to reign
But when ya'll talk about rap
Ya'll gon start saying my name
For real though I ain't playin
Plenty of ya'll love a brotha just scared to say it
Yo the first ever rap grammy
Let's talk about the only reason yo ass went to Miami
(Yup) truck wit rims (check) throw back jersey (check)
champagne bottles (check) lot's of models (check)
Damn that's the list for 90 percent of ya'll videos and songs
Am I wrong

But you don't even believe what you say no more

And the pain you sustain it can change a life
LOST

While sure you're free to do it
But what it mean to do it

Did you need to do it
Did you take time to think about the seeds you ruined

Yo, ain't no better man for this hype track
Just the veteran taking the mic back
David Letterman even said he like that track man
Even though he ain't a rap fan
Black radio, they won't play though
Ever since "Summertime" they ain't liked none of mine
Even though the fans went out & bought enough
I guess they think Will ain't hard enough
Maybe I should just have a shoot out
Run up in the bank, bustin', grabbin' all the loot out
Whoop somebody ass, taking my boot out
Right on TV so ya'll can see me
Just ignorant, attacking, actin' rough
I mean, then will I be black enough
Oh wait maybe I'll jack a truck
Full of cigarettes, guns & drugs & stuff

[CHORUS - (2x)]
Get that
I wish I would of made that
Lean back
I wish I would of made that
I wish I woulda told the girls to 'drop it like it hot'
Summer, Summer, Summertime
Seem like all I got

I always envied how ya'll rock wit Dre & the Chronic
The way that Tupac, Biggie, 50 and Jigga got it
A lot like L.L., Chuck D, Slick & Dougie
I think ya'll love me, but ya'll place other rappers above me
& I don't know if you feel my flow
& be at my show & you'll see where I should go
On the charts of rhyme arts & thoughts in rap form
Damnit, I expanded the platform
Damnit, this Cat's on a rap song
Yeah, it ain't no braids or plats on
Ain't on stage wit no gats on
You know I'm afraid, getting' my act on
It might have stunted my growth
But I wanted them both
& I hope that it would be less tougher
You do two things & then they both gonna suffer
I chose to act & it broke my heart not to rap
Prodigal son, clever, better than ever, back
CHORUS

[INTRO - CHORUS]
I got my swagga back
I got that swagga back, I got that swagga back
I got, I got that swagga back, I got that swagga back
Yo, do you see that lil' bop in my step
Do you see the little drop to the left, huh, yo...
Baseball cap, Timbs when I walk
Do you see that lil' grin when I talk, huh, yo
Do you see me sorta glide when I slide
See lean to the side in my ride, huh, yo...
Do you see it's no ice on my wrist
Fish still bite just like this... right, right
Do you know what it mean when you see a dude's chick on TV gleamin', huh?
Know what it mean to be on the scene & in the audience "Ali", beamin', yo!
I must have a 'S' on my chest, I recovered from the Wild, Wild West, yes!
Yo, I been up the creek without a paddle
Now I'm back on the saddle,
I got my swagga back

[CHORUS]
I got my swagga back
I got that swagga back, I got that swagga back
I got my swagga back
I got that swagga back, I got that swagga back
I got my swagga back
I got that swagga back, I got that swagga back
I got my swagga back

All you see that you see when you seeing me, you ain't seeing all to be seen
Cause there's more for you to see than when you see me on the scene in my
media machine
I mean madness, sickness, sadness, swaggerless back in the day
Fat, ugly chicks in New York on the radio, saying I'm gay
I had a bonafide downside frown with the swagga not around in my life
Bank account found minimal amounts when countin' cause of my now ex-wife
I had the boar-thick wall & all that, endure pitfalls & all that, fallin'
callin' for help
With no call back, where was ya'll at, gimme the ball back
I got my swagga back

Will is so awesome, so don't sleep on him. And I am a fan of Eminem too, so stop hatin' on him. They both are from 2 different eras and for all of ya'll to keep comparing them, you sound stupid. They are both skilled and talented but have different styles of rap. So to everyone reading this, go cop Lost And Found cause the album is hot, and get up on Em's album too, cause he is a talented lyricist.
P.S. Will, if you're reading this.... if anything happens with you and Jada, I wouldn't mind being the next Mizz Smith, u r sexy!!!!!!!!!

Will put it down and represented like he needed to on his latest album. I love him and always have but before now I didn't get mad when people hated on him for not being hard. He wasn't. He wasn't about the same shit the rest of some of these rappers are on these days. Don't get me wrong. I like Em and a lot of the new rappers WHO HAVE SKILLS. Unfortunately, not many do. I'm proud of what WIll did cause he proved that he can hold his own as a serious lyricist and still keep it clean and say what needed to be said.

As for Wendy Williams she sounds like a jealous dyke bitch to me...

Posted by: KittyGrrl at April 21, 2005 10:43 AM

Alright look.
Will is the original! He won the first ever Grammy award for rap, so the people claiming that he can't rap or that his style isn't rap are simply displaying blatant ignorance. The grammy (multiple ones, i should add) speak for itself. The guy's got talent, and this new Lost and Found album has some of the best and most entertaining songs I have ever heard in my life. The lyrics are incredible, and tempt interest from the very first line.

Eminem, on the other hand, was at his peak with the Eminem Show. His rhymes and lines throughout that entire album were excellent, but his new album 'Encore' was perhaps the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced in my life upon the purchase of an album. No disrespect to Em because I have always been a fan of his from the beginning, but Encore was baaaaaaaad. I like him, and hopefully he can lift his game with the next album.

Will commands respect. Eminem does not. Will can create an ill rhyme out of nothing without having to resort to petty swearing in his records to tempt interest from a younger audience. He is logically a figure that should be at the head of our hip hop category in comparison to people like 50 and Em and even Snoop. What kinda example are these guys settin'? Don't get me wrong, i luv 50, Em and Snoop but i don't think that they should be the figureheads for an industry that is having an increasingly negative image presented to its young listeners. Will smith should be the figurehead - nice, successful, family man, respectful to his competitors and a person who doesn't cuss unecessarily.

These are simple facts, and anyone with a brain can note that these are the logical things to do. Thankyou very much folks.

p.s. WILL IS THE BEST!!

Hey, u guys wanna know the best lyricist! its Scarface. he's a gangsta rapper true, but he was da best damn lyricist there ever was.

Posted by: Matrix at April 24, 2005 12:03 PM

I am an eminem fan as well. As a white kid growing up loving hip-hop...I couldn't help sticking to em, because it was sort of like rap equality. But all the while I was watching Fresh Prince. I have just bought Lost & Found, and I love it. I strongly believe that it is the best hip-hop album ever made. It beats the chronic and anything ever made by tupac or biggie. They may have had songs that were better than anything else on the Lost and found album, but they never did what Will did, and that's make an album with 15 good songs in a row.

Anyone that can't give credit to his album is narrow minded. I agree that Em would probably rip Will in a battle, but Nice guys don't have to fight.

"Dissed by Eminem and did it bother him, Yup...But he's classy; Big Will make another 20 mil and he walked right past E."

Bottom Line...
I bought his new shit because it was a hot cd. Nuff Said.

Posted by: playa playa at April 26, 2005 08:44 PM

I just went to that radio station site and tried to listen to Wendy Williams dis Will, her clip about Will is no longer there, but I did hear her takling about other people, so I can amagine what she said about Will. One question...WHO THE FUCK IS SHE?!?! Who care what this fat, old bitch has to say, when was HER last hit record? What has she sucessfully produced? The problem is people feed into bullshit to easily. Will is a target because of his successes. Truth be told, I dont think Will even cares what Larry or "Wendys value meal" has to say about him.... but it is nice to hear him fire back at someone finally. The new record is hot, no doubt, no make that HOT! I also don't understand why some of you think will has a ghostwriter...when he was making popcorn songs(not a diss, but they were "popcorn songs")...you assumed he wrote those. Will is a successful fuckin genius, you don't think he could put THIS shit together?!?! Get real.
Now on to my favorite issue...the "soft" issue. LOL.."soft". Teletubbies are soft, Barneys fat ass is soft. Will smith is not "soft" at all. Will Smith is not a punk either...fuck with his family and you will find that out quickly. You have to understand how much more difficult it is to remain different and unique than it is to conform to the "norm". Will Smith COULD have cussed his ass off, and been a "hard" rapper (he is capable, see Bad Boys 2).....but his rap style is fun and relaxing. He wants you to feel good when you listen to his records, nobody else cares to do that right now. I have always liked Will. Arsenio Hall called it before anybody, he said Will would be huge...and he is. One thing I dont get is why he will cuss in the movies but not too much in his raps. And there were a couple of cusses in Lost and Found. Hmmm.
Ok...now on to the Eminem issue. The diss Em did deserved a response (even a "Will style" one) sooner. Only becuase the diss was so well known. It was in the cover song for Ems second cd for Gods sake! But the funny thing is that Em and Will were talking and laughing together at the award show before the speech Will made about not needing to cuss. Em is hands down a better rapper then Will, and yes he uses shock value (i.e dissin Will)..and yes, Encore sucked (But 3 otta 4 aint bad!) .....but we love him (but please Em, don't do an album that wack again, theres only so much I can explain.) The Will and Em beef does not exist, Em is a 02 Porsche, will is a 57 chevy. They both have appeal.

Posted by: LL Cool J at May 2, 2005 11:13 AM

First off I have read just about everyone’s messages in the forum. I mean wow……..50 cent, Eminem vs. Will Smith. Come on ya’ll are you serious? While I don’t find 50 cent to be the greatest rapper, he is ok….like a 6/10. He is like a rehash of what we have been hearing from other one hit wonder MC’s. Not to take away that he is doing his thing, but that is my opinion. As for eminem……..The man does shock in his rhymes, but at the same time he is intelligent in his rhymes. While we may offend people, he does however bring his own pain, comedy, sense loyalty, and truth to his fans and for all those who do not like him. He is honest. Maybe not as tactful as a politician, but unlike politicians he tells it like it is. Em is one of the greatest in his own right, cause there will be no one to do it like him ever. Will is exactly the same way if you can open your eyes to see it. Will has been one of the mainstream originators, and in that for him to around this long and still command the respect, and all those damn haters out there says more than enough. While a Will and Eminem battle would be awesome beyond words it just won’t happen. And to compare them on a battling level really would be unfair. Simply cause Will has been rhyming longer, and has much expansive vocabulary than Em does. While we can hear all of Em’s insults what you don’t hear or can’t imagine is what Will could very well be the craziest hack and slash, bust up, and smack down on Em. You hear Em and his crazy self on the CD’s and on TV, but just cause you never heard Will spit like that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an arsenal of quick-wit attacks that could send Em home reconsidering his career. Now that just comes from being a rapper for the last 12 years, and understanding that more you rap (free styling + writing) that your skill increases and you win more and lose less. While I will never deny Em’s incredible skill, I know that Em would lose. But anyway look you all got me caught up in your drama. When it comes down to it all, hip hop is about emotion rappers speaking on what we live. and how we do what we do everyday. Its feel good, its anger, sadness, jealousy, mellow, love…..just everything that we live. That’s why hip hop is long lasting, and why it has dominated for so damn long. If we as artists and fans get into who is the best then you just get caught up in opinion, and then everyone is just speaking on how they feel. Just look back up at the top this message. Everyone has the right to say their own opinion and say what they got to say. Recognize talent for talent. Appreciate the great music that comes from great artists, and bump that in your house, car, and outside. Share it. Music is a God givin gift to inspire us as human beings to be better than we were that 3 ˝ minutes ago before we listened to that special song. Music speaks to me, speaks to my soul, and everyone in this forum. Lets not get so caught-up in who’s better, and just start enjoying it.

Peace

Lost and Found is a well articulated album and marks a triumphant return to rapping for Will. As usual there is a demographic unable to appreciate artistry and creativity delivered in a different way. Transcending the carbon copy model for present day rap (Gangsta), Will delivers a performance that is insightful and reflective of his experiences. If you struggled to understand these comments that is probably why you didn't grasp the concept of Lost and Found. Ghetto does not equal Good.

Larry Elder is "conservative", not a Republican. Although I've never heard him say so, I believe he is a Libertarian. Conservative Libertarians are often viewed as Republicans, because both share a position on the "issues" most often discussed.

I wanna tell you all this lyrics is weak than ever juss compare to the last 2pac diss to wendy williams your
when he talks on the outro it`s much better than the whole will smith`s song though he`s a good rapper this verse is like those eminem joking verses for sho` yo

Posted by: hillzy at February 22, 2006 10:28 AM

this puts me in quite a predicament, fresh prince is my favorite show and eminem is, not my MOST favorite, but the most lyrically talented rapper ever and the freestyle king of the industry. the sickest ryhmes ever. but the prince is good rapper and a great actor, eminem is vice versa, but i know em has gotta respect prince cuz there has been no rebuttal, em isn't exactly shy about shootin back at people he hates, in the end its a draw they both dedicated two verses to each other end of story

Posted by: d dub at March 8, 2006 10:14 PM

OKAY, LET ME PUT THIS ALL IN PRESPECTIVE FOR YOU ALL.

Will Smith and Em are both EMCEES!

See before talking about hip hop you first need to understand that one fact.

The Media has tried as hard as they could to eliminate the emcee from rap, why you might asked.

Simple, if there were more emcees spitting then all these manufactored rappers out there the rappers wouldn't get any airplay. That is the meaning behind Will's Lost & Found track.

Found are the emcees, people who have lyrical skills.
Lost are these rappers - albums after albums same old song (bling, rides, girls, drugs, and guns).

Now what you people (non hip hoppers) don't understand is emcees are like shogun warriors - they can't help it. They all desire to be the best, and live for the battle.

Will was satisfied with his status in hip hop, and making music for the love of the art (ie. Born to Reign, Big Willie Style).

But as a TRUE emcee he can not stand by and allow people to continue to take shots at him.
He states clearly in his song, BATTLING IS NOT MY STYLE, BUT AS A MAN SOMETHING YOU JUST CAN'T ALLOW!

So here's the bottomline from a real veteran battler.

Em got skills - and would wipe the floor with 90% of the so-called top rappers out today. And he would make it a good battle against Will.

But Will comes from an era where Battling wasn't an option, you have to bring it.

There wouldn't be a LL Cool Jay, Run DMC, a Will Smith today, if they'd took the road of these so called rappers today (I don't battle).

They would have quickly been tagged as lame and pretenders.

Will is a greater emcee because unlike Em, he don't have to rap about what's hot at this minute, he can stand on his lyrical skillz in any subject he choose (ex. WHY! feat. Mary J. Blige the best lyrical song I've heard since 2Pac's "Me against the World" project).

So now you know, 90% of the people yall are praising today, couldn't check a mic* for Will (* from Lost and Found), or any of the other so called Old School rappers. Think I'm lying here's a test for you all.

Turn down the bass, tweek the tremble, and LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR SO CALLED FAVORITE RAPPERS ARE SAYING. You will find that you just bought five of their cds and they all say the same damn thing.

Cash Money - "bling,bling"
Nelly -"I got the girls"
50 Cent & GUnit-"We Gangstas"
Lil John-"Everybody Dance"

Now go to some moms and pops shop and pick up any of Will's projects, you will see that there is a helluva difference.

So now you have the truth . . . whatcha gonna do with it?

Mr. K.I.P.

Will wrote all of his CD. He meant to sound like Eminem, Jay-Z, in one song he sounded like Nelly. He was trying to prove he can sound like anyone out there, but at the same time, he has his own voice.

when will made the comment about not cursing in his rymes he did not single out any one person or group. be mm singled out will. im sure will could make a rap when all kinds of shit, fuck, bitch words in them and videos with ho's and shit like that. but could em do the opposite? and what will said is true all these other rappers and i do like some of them all most of then talk about and show in there videos is big rims ho's throw back jearseys crystal ok how many time can you do the same shit befor it gets old? also em was not even the first succesful white rapper if im correct vanilla ice first album was a succes, but people dissed him and shit, so if any thing em had the way paved for him. and if i was sitting on the board who votes for grammy winners why would i want to give it to someone who talkes about women being bitches and ho's and pulling out my gat and shit like that. oh and will don;t brag about what he has as he said he don't front he flex. and yes will seeks approval from the people cause what he does is for the people, were what em does is for his self.

Posted by: dave at May 14, 2006 01:45 AM

Will sucks shit. He is a face. A clotheshorse. Been merchandised before. The fact that he can stand up and hold a mic means shit. People write his rhymes and mix his beats, then he shows up and reads what has been written for him, like fresh prince.

what?

All you fools need to check the white slavery from necro.

Ghostwritten by "Skillz" AKA "Mad Skillz" also a ghostwriter for P. Diddy and a ton of other people.

If you want confirmation then check the okayplayer forums. Ghostwirters don't admit publicly who they write for unless the customer agrees. P. Diddy acknowledged it and the Shaq "staged battle" made it obvious he was a customer too.

Lets look at this with some sense of logic, at some point we are all insulted. That alone explains why Will would release this. If that's a basic understanding, wouldn't it also be fair to say he's not trying to impress anyone with his rapping skills, at no point has he claimed to be a great rapper, if you compare his lyrics in this song to Busta Rhyme's in the diss to Ja Rule, you'll notice there's something unique about them compared to most other insults, they're fact based. There weren't many arguable insults, just true statements. Although this wasn't very deep in substance it still got two things out there, there is a line and he's "not your punching bag." At the end, his statements were the exact same as Busta Rhymes, which basically meant, they enjoy music and have fun with it, leave them alone.
