This Noel Gallagher Thing
I'm impressed that people can find this much to say about it.
His rant is, of course, boneheaded. Like many such rants it consists mostly of reasonable criticism, rendered foolish only by the bonehead blanket condemnation that prefaced it. Remove the burden of justifying that inital outburst (and his cultural outsider status) and the rest of it is barely objectionable.
But the first sentence is there, and you can't expect folks to pretend it isn't.

Noel Gallagher is a assclown anyway, and he's been an assclown and a drunk for years now, so I don't take many of his words seriously.
But, of course, in his mind hip hop consists of 50 Cent and Eminem.
Still, I'm not suprised that he's not a fan of hip hop, but I'm not the type of person who thinks that EVERYONE should be a fan of hip hop.

Oasis made a career out of saying outrageous shit. This is nothing new. He probably likes rap in secret.
A while back, in Oasis' heyday, SPIN did an article about how Oasis were the most rap-like rock group, based on their non-recorded antics. If you can find that article, it's a hoot.
Plus, there is at least one truth to this interview: after insinuating that hip-hop breeds gangs and violence, he lays the blame squarely at the feet of idiotic parents-- and he's right.
I mean, I LOVE N.W.A., but I never wanted to be a gangster... and I grew up in a family where my uncles were gangbangin'... mad props to my parents!

Actually the more people talk about these things the better. Something needs to be said between the constant portrayal of young black men as oversexed violent criminals in gangsta rap songs and videos, in what Spike Lee calls "the new minstral show". Personally I didn't have too much of an issue with what he said except that he painted all of rap with the same brush.
