November 11, 2005Arrested Development is CancelledUp until today there was only one show left on network tv that I cared about. Now there are zero. Fox, you've made a huge mistake. Fox puts abrupt stop to 'Arrested Development' So, the species known as "sitcom" is officially extinct now, right? Posted by jsmooth995 at November 11, 2005 09:24 PMComments
That sucks. Arrested Development has always been my favorite show, but I never get to watch it. We can always hope for a Family Guy-like resurgence. Posted by: StussyD at November 11, 2005 10:19 PM I think Fox has always sold this show short--I think sticking it on Sunday nights for two years was a huge mistake, not because of the night but because it was surround by Fox "cartoons." While I realize plenty of people who watch the Simpsons might tune in for AD, I think AD deserved a more "adult" time slot. Is 4 million viewers really that low? I realize that Desperate Housewives and CSI pull in more than 20 million, but you would think a network would want to keep a few really good but lower rated shows around instead of constantly trying out and failing new and much lamer shows. Most of the shows on the WB and UPN pull in much lower ratings. Here's to hoping HBO might pick it up--maybe pairing it with Curb Your Enthusian? Since Curb's ratings fell by half since Sex and the City exited, maybe AD could fill the void. Posted by: Stephanie at November 12, 2005 12:25 PM yeah, hbo needs to get on this. what a shame. i would think that the smart execs also realize that nowadays even shows that don't get great first time around ratings can still be quite profitable in the dvd market. how much could this show possibly cost to produce? Posted by: kwis at November 12, 2005 03:04 PM Posted by: Groove at November 12, 2005 05:26 PM Yeah, I saw that too. That was a great show. Posted by: HumanityCritic at November 12, 2005 08:36 PM Is there any thing we can do to stop this madness? Posted by: Cabie at November 12, 2005 10:54 PM Fox, you've made a huge mistake. LOL, Jay, you sound like you're going to take after FOX with a virtual tire iron... Posted by: leannelovesradio at November 13, 2005 06:03 PM Augh. So horrible! This was most certainly one of the best shows on TV. It would be sweet if HBO picked it up, but I don't have much hope for that happening. Posted by: Jack at November 13, 2005 08:55 PM That's too bad, but at the same time, I knew it was coming....the show's production costs( which make the show oh so great) are just way too high for a show that is not even showing up in the top 25 list....I don't really blame Fox, but the American public for not "getting" the show.... Posted by: Elgringochido at November 14, 2005 01:28 PM I wasn't a fan of the show, but I'm not surprised that the show was axed by Fox-- it was too smart for its own good. I didn't like the show because there was something overreaching about it. Maybe it was the way Fox marketed it, but the TV ads and trailers never made me want to watch it. I'd actually end up watching it if I left the channel on after "The Simpsons" but I never set out to watch it ever. Maybe the name is why people didn't flock to it: I wonder what Speech and his crew are ding right now... Posted by: james at November 14, 2005 05:04 PM i am extremely disappointed by this news. AD is such a funny show with excellent writing and great casts. It is one show that does not need a constant background laughing sound to remaind you it is the time to laugh. Maybe people are not used to this kind of performing style since the comedy sphere is dominated by easy to get humors? (i.e. the laughing sound) Posted by: eva at November 15, 2005 01:28 AM breaks my fucking heart. i blame it on charlize theron. she's the worst guest star they ever had by a long shot. Posted by: kim at November 15, 2005 03:19 PM James: interesting take, because I never watch regular TV and have thus never seen AD's commercials, I bought the series on DVD based on word-of-mouth.. Also i'm kind of amazed that you still watch the simpsons, lol.. i can't bear to see how far they've slipped.. Posted by: Jay Smooth at November 15, 2005 04:22 PM I am so upset that this show was canceled. It doesn't matter who is to blame since the fact remains. I wish there was more that I could do to save it. My family and I have tried to spread the word but there just aren't that many intelligent people in the country that want to think a little to laugh a lot!!! Posted by: Erin Dirkmaat at November 16, 2005 02:16 PM I watch Arrested Development religiously and i'm outraged that fox would take such a great show off the air. i mean come on!!!! Posted by: Dennis at November 16, 2005 06:22 PM The problem with this show was it was mismanaged. First it was on Sunday nights between catoons, then this season it was inconsistently on Mondays, when there was no baseball or anything else on. This was too expensive so FOX intentionally killed it. Let's test the power of the internet. I suggest an all out war on FOX. We need a centralized list of supporters and a virtual team approach consisting of boycotting watching FOX, contacting their advertisers and boycotting their products. Then we can pursue HBO or some other network to pick it up. This is the first show ever that I could possibly feel this passionate about! Posted by: Frank at November 21, 2005 08:41 PM Please contact your friends and sign the petition below so we can get a list of a few hundred thousand names. Step one - Demand the reinstatement. Step 2 - Declare war on FOX and their advertisers. FOX intentionally mismanaged this brilliant show and must be punished. Let's see what the power of the internet can accomplish. Posted by: Frank at November 21, 2005 09:16 PM The network execs are making a huge mistake by letting this show go. It is a shame that they are letting a wonderfully written show get cancelled. Arrested Development belongs up there with Seinfeld, and Chappelle's Show. Please exec's don't turn your back on a wonderfully creative gem of a show. It will be worth your while to keep this. Otherwise I hope another network will be smart enough to pick it up!! Fox you have the opportunity to be a network Champ!! Besides you guys are known for having some of the most breakthrough and controversial shows. PLEASE PLEASE DONT LET THIS OPPORTUNITY PASS YOU BY, OR YOU WILL REGRET JUST LIKE YOU DID WITH FAMILY GUY. AT LEAST YOU MADE A SMART CHOICE BY BRINGING THAT BACK Posted by: Jamie Bruce at November 21, 2005 11:46 PM FOX has hated this show from its creation. I think they tried to make it get low ratings by placing it in the Monday night time slot. They knew that the MLB playoffs would be starting shortly into the "AD" season, and they knew that if they went long stretches without airing the show, people might forget about it or lose interest. They knew exactly what they were doing, and it worked. I also hope HBO picks it up, hate to see it go. Posted by: Chuck at November 22, 2005 11:07 PM Click on my name and go read my review "Something's broken here" about this crappy show and it might help educate you children why this rubbish was cancelled. Posted by: Samuel at November 24, 2005 09:11 PM Im about to cry. Why FOX, why? I remmember when they also wanna get cancelled married with children. And finally, they do it the same way they are doing now with AD. FOX is really making me cry. I'M IN ANY LIST YOU WANNA DO. Posted by: Rodolfo at November 30, 2005 04:49 PM How this morrowns do this thing with a show that in its first year won the EMMY, anyway?? Posted by: Rodolfo at November 30, 2005 04:53 PM Samuel, you are a fucking cock muncher! I hope you die because you are a fagy douchebag and you deserve to die!... Sucks about AD... That was the best show ever...
