December 28, 2005Hot 97's Miss Jones Hasn't Learned A ThingMy esteemed colleague at WBAI Playthell Benjamin caught Miss Jones up to her old racist, ignorant tricks on hot 97 recently, and struck back with a comprehensive skewering on our morning show.. "After denouncing Transport workers as a bunch of uneducated and overpaid losers who made the wrong choices in high school that resulted in their driving a bus, instead of becoming a white collar professional like her, she viciously attacked Mr. Toussaint personally. Spewing a stream of invective she resorted to the most ignorant and debased view of West Indians that lurks in the darkest regions of the American mind. Here's the audio of Playthell's commentary, and the complete text below the cut.. (an abridged version of this also appeared in the Daily News) The Ranting of Miss Jones in the MorningsPosted by jsmooth995 at December 28, 2005 02:22 PM Comments
She still has a job on the radio? Todd Lynn was the only one to be fired? Posted by: Racist Again? at December 28, 2005 02:58 PM What gets me is almost all of her ignorance is directed at her own people. Ignorance I'm used to, but the self hate kills me. Posted by: Wryter133rd at December 28, 2005 03:29 PM You know I heard about this somewhere and then it totally slipped my mind until just now. Does she really think this shit is funny? Does she know how many West Indians there are in NYC who listen to Hot97? I boycotted her show after the Tsunami song incident, but now as a West Indian, I feel like I need to do everything possible to get her ass fired. Posted by: eskay at December 28, 2005 04:17 PM I just can't believe this idjit is still on the air. She better watch her ass... Posted by: nshgrl at December 28, 2005 04:33 PM Do you think this will blow up on Hot97's face and Miss Jones like the Tsunami song? Start sending letters and emails I guess.... Posted by: Racist Again? at December 28, 2005 05:50 PM i remember wtching the making of the band with diddy and she was about to rib on this girl about what she had on until she found out the girl was from new orleans and reall y had to put somthing together than she acted as if she was so concerned , so i could see her acting a bit ignorant and no i am not of african decent Posted by: dot at December 28, 2005 06:36 PM I stopped listening after the Tsunami thing too, but now it's obvious that something really must be done. The last time I heard the term "coconut," I was eight or nine years old and I was making fun of a friend--what is she doing using it? Is she trying to be nine-years old again? Posted by: Allen at December 28, 2005 09:53 PM a terrible incident but a wonderful commentary. Posted by: anne at December 29, 2005 12:21 AM Damn this chick really doesnt learn Posted by: DjBigDaddy at December 29, 2005 03:46 AM YALL ACTING LIKE JAMAICANS AND BLACKS LIKE EACH OTHER? MAN PLEASE CARIBBEAN PEOPLE GET ON MOST BLACK AMERICAN'S NERVES. Posted by: MARK at December 29, 2005 08:25 AM I think black people get on each other's nerves, never mind the Caribbean people. yeah, Caribbeans get on black peoples nerves, because they see how caribbeans move up the ladder in a country foreign to them. When blacks see that, they think that they are taking over their neighborhoods because they open up shops in their neighborhoods, but they don't go and open up a shop, AND if they do open up a shop, black people don't want to support their fellow brethren. Self Hate is something deep, I swear Posted by: Damn at December 29, 2005 10:43 AM Grant it, I can honestly say as a mixed raced African/Native American, I have recieved my fair share of race conflict from fellow black and caribbean blacks, but we all gotta live and work together like it or not. So I can relate to her ranting and dislike having dealt with it. I know her hate and dislike, but you don't let those feelings control who you are and your broad views of said people. At one point somebody from some color has done us wrong, but at the same time somebody from that color has done us right as well. Can't forget that. But for her to shit on the working class people that are trying just as hard to make a living for them selves and service to us to help make our lives better is just tacky on all levels. Posted by: CHE at December 29, 2005 12:54 PM The problem with her comment is that she felt it was ok to say it. Obviously the atmoshere @ Hot 97 is one that let's ignorant people say and do hateful things to anyone just to get a rating. She is so stupid because she's doing the work of the white supremacis. Just like the Hutu and the Tusi in Rwanda they just planted the seed of hate for each other and sat back and watch brother kill brother. We have seen this same scene play it's self over and over again. Was she just not paying attention. Posted by: ifleming at December 29, 2005 04:56 PM yo stop hating on her cause she famous any body got a problem me and you can get it poppin!!! Posted by: baby girl at December 29, 2005 11:04 PM yo stop the rumors yo ya'll haters Posted by: shaquasia at December 29, 2005 11:06 PM haha rumor? thats funny. Posted by: miss jones a racist at December 30, 2005 04:07 AM Miss jones is Miss jones...shes always going to be controversial...i dont think she has anything against west indians..her fiancee is haitian...miss jones and her crew dont hold back on nobody..they joke on everyone..nobody is exempt.. Posted by: Adrienne at December 31, 2005 11:49 AM ^ it's exactly like the last comment said...miss jones is just baitin'...and so many get heated falling for it hook, line and sinker! Posted by: yeahisaidit at December 31, 2005 08:30 PM I found your article on http://capitalregionpeople.blogspot.com and I do agree you have to think of Jonesey as a female Howard Stern. Posted by: Shameeka Graham at January 1, 2006 09:29 AM "...miss jones and her crew dont hold back on nobody..they joke on everyone..nobody is exempt.."
Posted by: Jerome at January 3, 2006 10:59 AM I just want to add a few comments here. This is insane. Firstly, Jamaican and Caribbeans [Mark] are not the same. I get offended when people use these labels synonymously as they restrict individuality. Sadly all of us are black people, yet we feel that it is fit to embellish our own kind, and then complain about the presence of white-induced repression in our society. Miss Jones is entitled to her opinion, however uninformed and distored it is. However, she is a public figure. People who have a voice in the public should be very sensitive about what they say. Their words and actions are very affective. This situation is proof of that. The skit was thoughtless, her comments were thoughtless, and action should be taken against her. Let me say that the TWU was fighting for their members being able to live solid lifestyles now and in the future. That comment was both idiotic and unnecessary. We have become too used to accepting low standard of living. TWU workers wre fighting because they believe that they are worth it. I do not care if Miss Jones has a degree; this is just an attestation to how schools may produce uneducated fools. Let's just hope she is not going to marry the Haitian so that he can get a greencard. Additionally, to the person who thought that this comment was in any way humorous, you possess a sense of humour which is distorted and insipid. Posted by: grosejay at January 3, 2006 11:42 AM Ms. Jones always has and always will be an ignorant, ghetto chick, who couldn't make it in the record industry. She's a one-hit-wonder who had to dust off her college degree and get on the air promoting the very industry that rejected her. How can anyone take this bitter, pathetic woman seriously? Ms. Jones has played her personal life out over the airwaves and doesn't know the strength and morals it takes for the TWU to get out there everyday and serve an ungrateful public. Remember her two-minute marriage to some guy she met on Dr. Dre and Ed Lover's on-air dating game? Remember how she made a fool of herself proclaiming Ginuwine as her man on-the-air, only to get played when he married someone else? Furthermore, her college education obviously didn't teach her very much at all. The last time I read the term "white-collar professionals" did not include radio personalities. "White-collar professionals" are members of the corporate heirarchy (i.e. Ms. Jones' bosses). Maybe Ms. Jones should try going back to college and actually paying attention this time, or try picking up a dictionary. She needs to stop insulting everyone and look at her demographic. Those very people she demoralized are the same ones who are her listening audience. I've only heard recorded excerpts of her insults, because as an educated, white-collar worker, I stopped listening to her ignorance years ago. To Roger Toussaint and the TWU I say "God-Bless, you. Way to go! And there are some people out here who appreciate the work you do. From an everyday commuter, Danielle W. from Harlem USA. Posted by: DaniW411 at January 3, 2006 08:06 PM Tarsha Nicole Jones aka Miss Jones needs to learn how to tame her tongue. Apparently she didn't learn her lesson the first time when she made fun of the Tsunami vicitms and was given a two-week suspension from Hot 97 and was forced to donate a weeks pay to the victims.
This is not the first time one of Hot 97's deejays had said something so distasteful. The FCC ought to shut down Hot 97! Shame on you Miss Jones and Shame on you too Hot 97! Posted by: Sweet Trini Girl at January 5, 2006 01:49 PM If this were the 1950s, Tarsha would've been hating on Malcolm X in the same way. If this were the 1960s, Tarsha would've been saying the same about Dr. King. Ignorant Uncle-Tom heffer. Posted by: Mystic at January 5, 2006 07:36 PM My mom is an american black n my father is puerto rican and american black. my mom uses the term n we leave in brooklyn not too far from flatbush. she's been using it since forever. i've used it while joking with carribean friends but never in a mean way. i agree with the kid on the post who said americans and west indians dont really get along. We don't and i don't think we really will so sad but true. Miss Jones has a right to say want she wants and remember she even said her son has a little coconut in him. so lay off people Posted by: Jenn at January 5, 2006 08:40 PM Why is this BLACK BITCH still working there? Posted by: dsfsdf at January 5, 2006 11:18 PM don't forget V.S. Naipaul on the Trini list. Nobel prize in literature. Posted by: jdw at January 6, 2006 04:26 PM Nothing will become of this. Small buzz and that is it. She's probably sitting at home laughing to the bank...along with Hot97 execs. Posted by: Racist Again? at January 6, 2006 05:02 PM Miss Jones has no damn manners, no proper upbringing as true West Indians would say. I happen to be a first generation black American, both my parents are West Indian. I grew up listen to the Sugarhill Gang, Zulu Nation, Kurtis Blow and all the rest that followed. At that time, kids in public school would call West Indians all sorts of names, especially Haitians. Hell, even West Indians degraded Haitians at that time. If you are in my presence, you would swear I was from the south, I grew up Five-Percent for crying out loud. Enough of the history, I have a MBA in business and technology, but I chose to stay in my union(Verizon) because of the great benefits. I wont elaborate on the benefits, but ask anyone at Verizon about our benefits and you would see what I am talking about. This country was built on unions, and at some point in time everyone had a family member in a union. Fire Miss Jones, and her class-less ass. Posted by: Duane Hinkson at January 9, 2006 08:46 PM You Caribbean people are hilarious at best. The lack of unity among Caribbean people is showing in their inability to mobilize to effect their position. The lack of such unity is just giving more publicity to the show. Start a chain letter, write articles to the newspapers, groups etc to get people to stop listening to the show. Like others i stopped listening after the Tsunami incident and it did hurt them in the ratings. New ratings are out this week. Check for yourselves. The Asians seems to be more effective in mobilizing than The Caribbeans. And let the mobilization starts with you. Just stop listening or shut up Posted by: tomcold at January 9, 2006 10:51 PM Caribbean, American Negro...who cares? You all fit nicely under whitey's foot. Posted by: Zeigy Marley at January 10, 2006 11:32 AM Please people shut the hell up! You HAVE way to much time on your hands. All you are doing is talking, talking, talking, talking, and doing nothing about it. Damm Posted by: missy at January 10, 2006 02:21 PM Missy, Posted by: ChocoLatina at January 11, 2006 06:11 AM To the cat that said Caribbean people aren't unified? Bruh do you read at all? Have you not seen the constant infighting amongst Japan and China? Have you ever read up on their history? Look at how the Arabs fight amongst themselves. Look at the Irish vs. English. Please if you don't know wtf you are talking about just educate yourself and THEN speak. The Caribbean Islands I have seen listed so far are INDEPENDANT. Meaning THEY RUN THEY SHOW. Even the ones who come up here eventually go back home once they realize how, lost and self hating Black Americans are and how wack America really is for ALL Black people. If it wasn't for the money how many of them do you think would really leave they nice homes abundant with land, food, and natural resources? Give me a damn break..some of you need to look at the example of these independant nations and get your own hoods together. BTW I am a BLACK AMERICAN. Posted by: Hotttts at January 11, 2006 01:10 PM The really sad thing is that Ms. Jones, Star an even Howard Stern only exist because WE allow them to...There is something very sick inside of people that would even find most of these fools funny and entertaining with their hateful views and comments...I've heard words like GENIUS AND TALENT applied to both Stern and Star. Now that is really SICK. Ms. Jones and others like her are truly and embarrassment to the African American race (yes that includes me) and come t o think of it, they are truly an embarrassment to the human race itself..Just remember that you do not have to settle for that type of entertainment and they would all be gone. Posted by: Keven K. at January 12, 2006 01:39 PM MISS JONES,MISS JONES. WHAT PEOPLE WILL DO FOR SHOCK VALUE!! I REALLY WONDERED IF SHE SAID IT BECAUSE SHE MEANT IT, OR JUST FOR ALL OF US TO GIVE SOME ATTENTION TO IT?!!FIRING HER WON'T DO SH*T!THE COMPANY WILL ONLY SEND HER TO ANOTHER CITY TO CONTINUE HER DIRTY WORK. REMEMBER, WENDY WILLIAMS WAS DRIVEN OUT OF NEW YORK-WENT TO PHILLY FOR AWHILE, THEN CAME BACK TO THE NYC.MISS JONES IS A HAS-BEEN ONE HIT WONDER IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY THAT SEEMED ALOT NICER 10 YEARS AGO WHEN SHE HAD HER RECORD DEAL.I GUESS SHE'S SOURED BY THAT EXPERIENCE. ANYHOW, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES BACK 10x HARDER.SHE'LL GET HERS IN DUE TIME. Posted by: Informed at January 13, 2006 09:45 PM I believe it to be extremely unfortunate and a slap in the face to all those who made great sacrifices so star jones (and no Ms. jones, I'm not illiterate, I just find it unbearable to capitalize the first letters of your name) would have the opportunity to give a public voice to communities of color in this country. Please forward this to Hot 97! Posted by: Lofton Nile at January 21, 2006 09:08 AM Jonesy as a female Howard Stern... There were a lot of good comments posted on this topic and I wish I could have got to it earlier. No matter what's said, HOT 97 has it's audience and the audience will continue to enjoy what they hear until they are educated on a mass level. The audiences are enjoying it, and that's the real question. WHY? Jonesy is only fueling the fire that's already been there. Someone made a comment that the only reason why these shock on air djs exist is because we allow them to, and that is very true. HOT 97 will have my respect for a long time, because of it's prestige in representing quality music and being a leader in that right. I have no doubt that everything else will soon fall in place. Howard Britt Posted by: Music Oxygen at January 23, 2006 12:20 PM I was curious about the way she kept flaunting her college education to indicate her supposed superiority... until I went on the station's website and found this puzzling statement: "she was accepted into the quasi-Ivy league of Syracuse University where she graduated with a B.A. in Music" HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Oh, and she is far from the "female Howard Stern" as some people here are misguided enough to think. Howard Stern is at least arguably somewhat amusing and at least passingly intelligent. Can't say the same for Jones. Posted by: miss jones is racist at January 30, 2006 11:54 PM Miss Jones was fied from philly for the same SHIT her ignorant ass just doesnt't learn. Posted by: momo at January 31, 2006 11:33 PM the funny thing is this correlation of Afro American and West Indians is damn stupid, first we have the same four Fathers snd second we're all blacks, negro, damn wake the hell up people all this self hate is doing us no justice, but making the other race job much easier. Now about the Miss Jones she sould be the last one to call people ignorant, should take a good look at herself because last I checked another would for ignorant is INSENSITIVE and that exactly what she is portraying right now so who is the Ignorant one. Posted by: JayRok at February 18, 2006 12:44 PM Anyone who has takin the time to post on here to please take action and email hot97@hot97.com Hot 97 to boot/fire Ms Jones. Peace to all and thank you. Posted by: Fire Ms Jones at April 24, 2006 04:17 AM I am not for this type of radio, but if it makes you that angry, turn it off. I don't listen to howard either. The fact that this area even is here, lets someone like that win. Posted by: g at May 18, 2006 05:15 PM It's like this, people: What is a Black American to a White Supremacist? What is a Black Carribean to a White Supremacist? And there it is. Let's cut the shit with all this American vs. Carribean Blacks and vice versa. To racists the world over we're ALL just a bunch of dumb good-for-nothing NIGGERS. And people like Miss Jones do all the work for such racists, while they sit back and laugh. Black folks are black folks, and all of us need to stick together. To condone the ignorance and denigration of one group of our fellow man is to condone the denigration of yourself. We must stick together!! Putting other people down, calling them degrading names, such as "Coconut Head", especially when it's coming from one black to another, is NOT entertainment. It's ignorance, people. We need to stop making asses of ourselves... Posted by: TruthHurts at June 14, 2006 05:59 PM Everyone just needs to get off her back!
