Important Public Service Announcement
It has recently come to my attention that even 20+ years later many people (including but not limited to the blogger known as catchdubs) still think "Oh Sheila" is a Prince song.
I guess this is understandable.. in fact when our DJ Emskee spun "Oh Sheila" last week at his Brooklyn Museum gig, I was wracking my brain wondering which Prince track it was, until the vocals came in and I slapped myself.
But no, ladies and gentlemen, let us set the record straight once and for all: "Oh Sheila" was written and recorded by Ready For The World. The same band who, decades before R Kelly, pioneered the art of lyrical absurdity in R&B slow jams with "Girl Tonight" and "Let Me Love you Down."
These brave men and their bold jheri curls must not be written out of history!

Ready for the world was pure dopeness!
They had parents throwing fits when they actually heard the lyrics to "tonight" coming out their teenage daughter's stereos.
I still throw down "tonight" to this day whenever I have a young lady over.
And I was recently caught at work by a co-worker singing "in my room" when it came on the old school station over here.
Much props.

"These brave men and their bold jheri curls must not be written out of history!"
agreed. i'd argue that they had the best curls of their generation. troop, however has the exalted honor of deftly merging the gumby and the curl.
i thought they were british for the longest 'cause, i think, the lead singer occasionally spoke with an affected accent (and hence is an unacknowledged forerunner of madonna and andre 3000) so imagine my surprise when I found out they were from flint.

Are you serious?
There are people out there who actually think "Oh Sheila" was a Prince song?
Didn't they see RFTW's music video for that song on BET (Video Soul days with Donnie Simpson)?
And just for the record . . .
"In My House" is not a Vanity 6 song.

Neither these brave men, nor their bold jheri curls, nor their ridiculous fake British accents!
I have the 12 inch single of "Oh Sheila," yo.
