Rakim Giving Props to Dipset

Hold New York down? Well yeah, as a NY hip-hopper I've often said to myself "these Dipset guys have really been holding us down." But I didn't mean it in exactly the same way..

Are you a Dipset fan?
No doubt. I like the Diplomats’ swagger, man. Juelz, Cam’ron, Jim Jones—they bring a lot of swagger back to the game. New York needs somebody right now to hold New York down.

So when will there be a Rakim/Diplomats collaboration?
Probably soon, man. They one of the cats in the game that I got a lot of respect for, music respect and street respect as well. And when I do do collabos, it’s gotta be respect. I’m not doing it because they sell records or just because they own a certain part of the market. I call ’em “smart collabos” because at the end of the day they makes sense. I don’t want people do be like, Why did Ra do a joint with this dude?…

As far as I'm concerned Rakim will always be the GOAT.. but not for his gifts as a talent scout. After all, this is the same man who claimed, for many years, to believe that Eric B was a good DJ.

(half kidding about the dips, I like some of their stuff)

Utmost respect to the god MC but I think he may have crossed the fringe where MCs/DJs (what have you) aren't paying close enough attention to what's is going on in "hip-hop" today.

I like some Dipset stuff too but I can't cosign Ra doing ANYTHING with them.

"Hold New York down? Well yeah, as a NY hip-hopper I've often said to myself "these Dipset guys have really been holding us down." But I didn't mean it in exactly the same way.."
and neither did I.

"I don't want people do be like, Why did Ra do a joint with this dude?"
How ironic is this?

Boy, I sure wish I was holier than thou like you guys. Because it sure takes alot of guts to dis the Dips from behind the safety of your computer screen... When the song comes out fire thanks in advance for inhaling all those vapors.

Props on the dope blog.

I'm not a big Dipset fan at all but I still would go out and buy anything Rakim puts out even though he hasn't dropped anything of note for a long time.

He needs to think about collaborating with Primo. 9th Wonder and maybe someone who's versatile to bring out the best in him, Just Blaze.

...You should read part two of the article...

So when he was trying to get you to go in that direction, where did you see your lyrical content going?
I like the more conscious levels of hip-hop that bring awareness. Im trying to get out of the stereotype that they put us in. Everybody dont have to rap about selling drugs, everybody aint gotta rap about guns. A lot of people seen it, a lot of people been through it, but [if] you saturate the game with it, it gets to the point where thats all there is. Im that other dude; I want to rap about something else, I want to say something else. And at the end of the day, the hood is going to embrace it. Thats who I am. But I dont have to speak on negativity. If I got 15 records on my album, all 15 of them dont have to be about the ghetto miseries.

He can collaborate with whowever he feels. However I do not think he will change his integrity for nobody. While I am not a fan of dipset, that would just be a track on the album I will either skip, or just stomach for his verse. B

BCTW,
Holier than thou? What the fuck are you talking about? I didn't diss the dipsets, I expressed my feelings about them. I think their music is destructive and most of it lacks any creativity or artistic integrity. Perhaps you call that a diss, I just think its an honest assessment of my feelings about them. As far as hiding behind a computer goes, I am typing this from work and I sit behind a computer. I'm not hiding. Should I post my picture when I make a less than glowing remark about a rapper, so I can show how real I am? I would consider a diss something like this: Cam and the dipsets have no talent, they suck! But I don't believe that to be true. I think Cam has talent, I just think he doesn't take the art of MC'ing seriously. I think even with his 'content' he could write better rhymes and make better songs. With regards to his content, he obviously doesn't care about the possible repurcussions his music will have for millions of youngsters from his own neighborhood.

I'm from Harlem, and I mainly don't like they way they represent it. Gangs, sex and drugs are not all there is to Harlem and thats pretty much all that they rep. I have a problem with that and if you had any understandings of the effects of their music and music like it, you'd have a problem with it too.

FYI, I don't use the internet to show how much guts I have, you sound childish.
