The All-Rapper Barbershop Quartet
Someone just asked me who I would select if I was putting together a barbershop quartet composed entirely of rappers. I decided the answer, clearly, was this perfect mix of voices: Nate Dogg, Cee-Lo, Pharrell and Bizmarkie.
Can anyone recommend a better line-up? Let me know, because I am now making it my mission to bring this project into reality. Just Blaze, if you're reading this, please make some phone calls and get the ball rolling.

Isn't Bone Thugz already sort of the rap barbershop quartet?

ah ha ha ha
you got me going now man!
huh...
who should get together for this one...
Jay, you got tough one to top...set us up for failure on this one...
hmmmm.
btw. Nate Dogg aint a rapper.
how bout -
Slim Kid Tre,
Mos Def,
O.D.B.,
and Phonte
though I really like Cee-Lo for this category.
plus, visualizing O.D.B. or Biz Markie doin their thang - classic.
or to make it simple - get the brothers from J5 - at least they know how to harmonize.

Fair enough, I guess Nate Dogg doesn't count. Drat!

I don't think Bone Thugs count because a barbershop quartet generally involves a 4-part harmony, not four or five guys all singing the same note. :)
(it used to drive me up the wall when people talked about this group named Bone Thugs and Harmony singing "5 part harmony" when they never had any actual harmony going on)

I think any list without Devin the Dude on it is missing one of hip hop's best voices. In terms of pure rapping rappers -- sorry Cee-Lo, Pharrell, Nelly, etc., I'd want to hear:
Devin the Dude
Bumpy Knuckles
Ghostface
Maseo (never heard him sing but I would like to!)

Pharoahe Monch
Cee Lo
Nate Dogg (Although I like Mos Def)

WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED WHODINI???
Posted by: Sparkle Shortz at April 21, 2006 12:49 PM
Slim Kid Tre,
Mos Def,
O.D.B.,
and Phonte
great lineup but i'd switch odb with pharoahe monch...odb would be too drunk to really focus on singing seriously.
Posted by: Vilens at April 21, 2006 01:23 PM
yea, just sort of robbing from other people's posts with this one:
mos def is necessary
ghostface
slim kid
and the Biz
though i think ODB and cee-lo would be ill. and what about q-tip??
Posted by: sanju at April 21, 2006 08:53 PM

mos

Hey... what about "Bone Thugs in Harmony"? Its not going to sound like a barbershop quartet no matter what you want. This is it.. They got harmony...
Think about it...

Wikipedia's article on Jurassic 5 said they had barbershop techniques...
OK i just stated the obvious..
