Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga - Round 6

Oscar De La Hoya knocks out Mayorga in the 6th round.. so much for all that yapping, Ricardo. The commentators sound so desperate at the end for something exciting to talk about in boxing.. y'all need to just give it up and roll with the MMA.

De La Hoya Vs. Mayorga Results

The baddest mouth in boxing took the baddest beating on this nights fight. As many insults Ricardo Mayorga spewed out at Oscar De La Hoya, he took as many shots to the mouth. ''El Matador'' might have been in his best condition but his macho no-defense for Oscars right hand leads and left hooks made referee Jim Nady stop the fight in the 6th. You could say that the Golden Boy is again golden with his 9th world title in different weight divisions. This must be a record.

Ricardo Mayorga told Oscar, ''I at 172 lbs.'' in the center of the ring during the ref instructions. For a 154-pound fight this was a little too heavy but to say that De La Hoya weighed in at 154 lbs. is stretching it. His body wasn't cut, his arms and back looked a little flabby and he wore the cup too high as usual. From the stand off I thought that maybe my prediction would be true. Mayorga in the first 6 rounds or Oscar in the last 6 rounds by TKO.

Mayorga went down hard at 2 minutes and 6 seconds left in the 1st round by a left hook counter from The Golden Boy that almost seperated his head from his shoulders. It was a perfect left hook. So many of those have I seen before but this one came in the middle of fire. Ricardo came out winging and landing some but he forgot all about the incoming. He was sent down hard on his ass but got back up only to eat a few more of his words.

De La Hoya had the defense, he was smooth and he was precise but I couldn't help notice that this man was not at his best shape. At the age of 33 when you would expect a boxer to be in his good-bye days, Oscar showed that fueling the fire is enough and that Mayorga's clubbing hand that was always blocked was only fanning the flame. De La Hoya's body wasn't perfect but this fight almost was.

Just about all of Mayorga's punches were blocked. He was hit hard with rights and lefts throughout the fight and went down the second time in the 6th before being trapped against the ropes and being pummeled much like Ike Quartey and Fernando Vargas. The referee had to jump in to save Mayorga after one of the many right hands Oscar was landing. Mayorga was a beaten street fighter and was already going down again for the3 3rd time. Referee Jim Nady did the right thing. Oscar De La Hoya stood up again to another bully.
