Astronaut Sees Earth's Scars

Still don't believe in global warming? Well this is a warning from outer space that perhaps we all should heed. Canadian astronaut Bob Thirsk is doing a six month stint in the international space station, returning to space after doing a similar mission 12 years ago. This puts him in a unique position to compare today's earth to the earth he saw back then, from a vantage point few of us get to see.

And what he sees doesn't sound good. Thirsk says: "This is probably just a perception, but I just have the feeling that the glaciers are melting, the snow capping the mountains is less than it was 12 years ago when I saw it last time. That saddens me a little bit."

This is not a scientific finding, as he notes, it is just his personal perception, still it does send a chill down the spine. But the debate is sure to rage on nonetheless, and there are compelling arguments on both sides.

"A Canadian astronaut aboard the International Space Station said on Sunday it looks like Earth's ice caps have melted a bit since he was last in orbit 12 years ago..."

I don't see how this is supposed to be any more convincing than any other Global Warming evidence. If anything it's less convincing. At least the rest of the global warming proponents have some numbers and figures to interpret into a doomsday guilt trip to keep us paying them for carbon credits. This is "probably just a perception", but I wonder if Mr. Thirsk's subjective observations have been skewed a bit by all of the press time that global warming has received.

why do we have global warming and the answer

Posted by: Brian Hathaway at July 28, 2009 8:44 PM

Anyone who believes global warning is a myth is not intelligent. They are ingorant, pigheaded, greedy, typical American slobs, that are dragging the enitre world down the drain with them. I am American and am embarassed by 45-50 percent of people that I'm forced to call my country men. Sorry Earth, I wanted to save you.

it is kinda of interesting that if you go back to the 1500's, they made very detailed land maps of the south pole (which is 2 islands facing each other), which at that time was not covered in ice. Hmmm, did we go through an ice age between then and now? The Earth operates in cycles, heating and cooling as needed to maintain its own eco system. yet anytime someone argues against gobal warming, the closed minded hoot and howl and call them a heretic.

I REALLY THINK IT IS A LOAD OF CRAP

Posted by: bill shonkwiler at July 28, 2009 10:03 PM

So now Jesus will fix all that ails the earth? As usual a group with a convenient answer about a myth that does nothing. I want to see a list of all the scientists - for or against. You know the people who might actually know what they are talking about. Gee maybe the larger of the two might be the group to believe. But then again there is always the 4th group who say: "I REALLY THINK IT IS A LOAD OF CRAP".

hey chris; repeating your posts only proves your opinion is based on emotion, not logic.the anon. post about te pole is a good summay of what the FACTS point to- the earth is ycling through a NATURAL warm period- you arevery silly to think our short time on this earth(i mean humans) could have affected something that has ben around for BILLIONS of years.

I don't see how this is troubling. Global Warming is a natural process, we are only speeding it up. This is exactly what happened before the last Ice Age. The media is pushing this whole topic to far.

I don't see how this is troubling. It's more like people rubbing the whole concept of global warming in our face. Global warming is a natural process of the Earth, we are only speeding things up. This is exactly what happened before the last Ice Age. It saddens me to see that people are stupid enough not to look back and see what Earth's weather patterns are when all this pollution wasn't around.

sorry about the mupitle posts! My computer is screwed up!

Rustov: I just had to reply to your post> I consider myself a Christian but I don't believe the Bible is God's word. I believe it is the word of men who wanted to be in control and spread their own agrnda. What you need to understand though that, to a Christian, Jesus isn't coming to "fix" anything. His second coming basically means the end of the world as we know it. The supposed chosen few who will be accepted into God's holy kingdom. The rest of us perish.

Also for Hannah: the problem is even though it is just a repeat of natural history, there are billions more living creatures who will be affected by it and who really wants that?

Posted by: BigmanK at July 29, 2009 2:15 AM

Back@Ya BigmanK, I don't need to understand anything about a big fat zero. 0 * anything = nothing. You guys always want to use the god, religion, jesus, blah, blah, blah argument when it never has any basis or relitivity. The argument for the forum is global warming. Anything else is about as void as the astronut's windbag comment "This is probably just a perception, but I just have the feeling that the glaciers are melting, the snow capping the mountains is less than it was 12 years ago when I saw it last time. That saddens me a little bit." Now that's a scientific observation.

BTW Hannah - a computer is a stupid machine. So what does that say about you?
