Chemical Causing Preemie Problems?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

A scary news story. Apparently, at least according to these scientists in Germany, the IV tubes used to help feed premature babies are using a kind of plastic that can have toxic effects on the babies.

The babies' health is affected adversely when this chemical in the plastic, called "phthalates", cause problems for the baby's liver. It's not confirmed for sure until other studies back this one up, but certainly seems worth asking your doctor about, if you will be having a baby anytime soon.

There are always so many concerns about childbirth and how to have a healthy baby, and so many different opinions and advice on how to make sure the infant is healthy and happy when he or she is born, it can be hard to keep track. But this looks like it may be a serious issue and not another media false alarm. Keep an eye out for further details.
