One White Guy's Thoughts on the Racial Debate

An interesting take on the latest issues. I hope we can all keepp talking this stuff out, and be respectful even when we disagree. This stuff is complicated and we can have different opinions without either side being a bad guy.

""Reverse Racism": Word Distracts from the Big White Elephant of Systemic Racism"
source

"Ever since Sonia Sotomayor, a Latina woman, was first mentioned as a contender for the Supreme Court, we've heard a lot from some quarters about how her success has been nothing more than the result of 'reverse racism.' ARC's Terry Keleher digs into the term and explains that 'reverse racism' is nothing more than a way for those in power to change the subject away from systemic racism, a system that puts people of color at a disadvantage from birth until death..."

YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN AT THE BACK LASH OF REVERSE RACISM. I AM A YOUNG WHITE GIRL IN A PREDOMINANT BLACK SCHOOL. EVERYDAY I HEAD RACIAL SLURS SUCH AT CRACKER HONKY AND WHITE BITCH. IF I SAY ANYTHING I AM CALLED A RACIST AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU THINK THAT I DESERVE THIS SOME HOW. MY PARENTS ARE FIRST GENERATION AMERICANS AND THEIR PARENTS CAME FROM SCOTLAND, THEY NEVER WERE INVOLVED IN SLAVERY OR RACISM. BUT I GUESS I STILL DESERVE THIS, RIGHT. YOU ARE A SHAME TO PEOPLE RACISM PERIOD IS NOT RIGHT AND I DON'T WANT RACIST PEOPLE RUNNING A COUNTRY THAT I LOVE AND BELIEVE IN...

Reverse racism is good. hopefully there will be white slavery before 2012. White ppl shud practice there skill at banana picking they don't wanna get 20 lashes on the back for slacking off. And we can soon look forward to America having its first white president(no umm wait... I think we had one of those before.. no George Washington was an American Indian). Btw I'am a white dude and this was actually a joke don't take it seriously. But you all should cool down about reverse rascism people will get tired of it. Sorry rachel, believe me I know what your taking about I used to sit in a classroom with people cracking nothing but rascist jokes about white people and me ofcourse. But if they call you names because your white, it must be that you one of the few in that school so therefore rather they like it or not they are making you popular XD.that is what happened to me in my school, ppl always used to say I looked like I smoked something all the time and I acted like I was crazy but after a few months there was not a person there who would not say "sup", "whassup", and throw a fist in my face or ask me for money because I was "rich because I was white"...

I understand and sympathise about the horrible way black people have been treated in society in past and there is still room for inprovement but racial harmoney and respect is a two way street. Both sides need to be more tolerant of one another. The old golden rule of do unto others should still be applied in this modern age. It woould go along way in getting along with everyone.

I'm sympathetic to the black people for the horrible way they have been treated in the past and I know there's still room for improvement. I also know that racial harmony and respect is a two way street and both sides need to have more tolerance for one another. The golden rule of do unto others should still apply today.

As long as there are races there will be racism. As long as there are religions there will be religious war. Live among those who are like you and let be and respect those who are not. Forced integration that is being forced now is too much too fast. Let it take it's course but if I am White and you are Black that is the reality and forced integration is not going to change that. This country is rooted in freedom. Freedom to think, freedom to speak and freedom to choose our own beleifs and faiths. It seems in the chase for equality those who are gaining ground from the rear truly only wish to take the lead and supress those who chase them. Religion and country seems to be fading quickly from the foreground of American thought reminding me of a poets words "Imagine" yea imagine the world being like Lennon's vision. OK it's easy, look around. Thanks Libs
