Madonna Gypsies Speech Booed in Romania(VIDEO)

Madonna has always been known for provocative performances, but on her latest tour of Europe it's not her sex appeal but her stance against hate and prejudice that is causing controversy.

On this "Sticky and Sweet" tour she has been performing with a trio of Roma Gypsies from Russia, showing solidarity with this ethnic group that is widely discriminated against in Europe (you may remember the hateful attitude towards Gypsies by Borat, sadly this is not only a fictional phenomenon). Apparently the audience on Bucharest, Romania did sit politely for the Roma musical performance, but when Madonna gave a speech decrying the prejudice against this group, the audience started booing the erstwhile Material Girl.

I give Madonna credit for defending the gypsies, even if it was booed. Hopefully in the long run speaking out on this way can move people towards tolerance, even if the immediate reaction is from those who are not ready to change.

Thousands of people applauded the trio's performance with Madonna in Bucharest on Wednesday night during her worldwide "Sticky and Sweet" tour. But minutes later they booed and jeered the pop star when she said discrimination should end against eastern Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma...

There is no rasial discrcimination in Romania. If you are romanian and want to go to an university you have to learn hard for entry exam and pay lots of money after, if you are gipsy due to "let's help the gypsies" , they can do it for FREE wich is totaly unfair. Plus nobody says anything bad about sinegr gypsies and there is no rasial discrimination - many times you can't really define a gypsy or romanian from skin color, but an attitude one : most of the gypsies are acting gross, violent and they still from people who work honesly. The public did well - Madonna came from USA pretending she knows about the problems from here because she spent some good time with her singers but she has no idea what did gypsies to this country! Sometimes the minorities have rights, the majority doesn't! The public didn't booed the gypsies from the stage but Madonna's message.

What would know Madonna you live in an ivory tower and never understand life for the people that rub sholders with the Gypsies. You are patronising and should stick to music only. Living with Gypsies is uncomfortable at the best of times they refuse education and choose to live a primative existance. please educate your self the most of us dont live like you do. Also, if we are all equal they why are we so different. Different racial groups have better advantages of others its a fact. Look basketball = 90% black, i could go on.

you have been niave please address this

Maddona should mind her issues(the relationship with her family for example) and only after that she should start telling others what to do !Every east european country has problems with the gypsies, that means... they have to change their behaviour first and after claim better treatment. It's easier to point the straw in the eyes of others and we do not see the beam in our own eyes !I' m glad i didn't go see that show !

If you were educated, as you claim to be, you would realize that anything reflecting the actions of an individual upon a race is overgeneralization. Your words are indicative of racism, discrimination, and racial profiling.
As for your comment about blacks, not to be racist, but I'm sure there are many more statistical records regarding crimes and even murders committed by minority groups in the U.S. and around the world- and I guarantee you that it will more than quadruple what my small race has done to you racists.
I'm a Gypsy, I live in a House in America, I'm a Marketing major with a minor in Psychology; I'm a writer, poet, artist, photographer, dancer, clothing designer, student, and proud to call myself a Rom. There are stereotypes for each race, but expressing hate so freely reveals your ignorance. Do YOUR research: the Roma are kept outside the city limits in Romania, where they aren't allowed to get jobs or educations.
"Nearly half of Europe’s estimated 12 million Roma... have suffered an act of discrimination over the past 12 months, according to a recent report by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency. The agency says Roma face “overt discrimination” in housing, health care and education" (BBC/Madonna.com). There's an Unofficial Gypsy Task Force in South Florida- so as you can see racists like you are alive and well on all the continents. I bet you believe in evolution too- my how far you've come.

God bless!!!

@Perry
"the Roma are kept outside the city limits in Romania" . This is not true. In Timisoara, for instance, there are several areas in the city's historic center occupied by gypsies.
"they aren't allowed to get jobs" I actually was in the situation of interviewing people for jobs. Nothing fancy, just English and PC skills required. From about 100 interviewed in a period of about 3 years, not one was gypsy. They certainly won't get jobs if they don't apply.
"or educations" School is free in Romania. There are many schools with the majority of the pupils of gypsy origin.

You understand sh*it about gypsies. They are on air at every TV station at every time, they basically rule Romania and the stupid 2-neurones Madonna tells us about discrimination. She is full of nonsense.
