Naomi Sims: A Pioneer Passes

A fashion world and modeling pioneer has passed away, as one of the first highly successful Black fashion models, Naomi Sims, died this week at the age of 61.

Sad to see that she passsed relatively young, but anyone could be proud of what she achieved in her 61 years. Condolences to all of her loved ones and family, and hopefully she'll be remembered and honored by the many other models for whom she helped open the door.

I do remember going to the local drug store walking down the isle of magazines and there she was. I couldn't believe my eyes, here this beautiful gorgeous woman. I didn't notice the magazine, just her beautiful face, representing me. I will truly miss her, but she left me with so much self esteem and pride. I was twenty-two years old.

What a triumphant figure in the world of modeling! Her beauty and intellect was a blessing, and we are better for it. Blessings to her family and legacy.
