Freemasons, Dan Brown and 'The Lost Symbol'

Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol hits stores this week, but how to the Freemasons feel about their secrets possibly being revealed?

The Freemasons are probably America's best known secret society. but defenders say they really aren't all that secret at all (some prefer to just call them a "society with secrets"), and those who are expecting a shocking expose of Freemasonry may be disappointed, as word is Dan Brown's Lost Symbol puts the group mostly in a positive light.

The Freemasons may be best known by young people for the satirical homage to them on The Simpsons, where many of the town's men were members of the Stonecutters. Masons do have an air of mystery, and really do keep a vow of secrecy, but most who have experience with them say there is nothing evil being hidden.

No confirmation yet on rumors that Dan Brown's next book is about
ACORN.

Six years after Brown intrigued millions of readers, and infuriated scholars and religious officials, with "The Da Vinci Code," he has set his new novel, "The Lost Symbol," in Washington and probed the fraternal order that well suits his passion for secrets, signs and puzzles.

Like most organizations of this sort, there is theatre involved. It's what makes it fun to be in a group of "Members Only". And most of these same oraganizations contribute to the community in a positive manner. I'm not a member, but I haven't seen any live sacrfices going on in the FM lodge behind my apartment. But, mystery is fun and you can make a conspiracy out of anything. I can't wait to read the book.

I have been a Free Mason for years and there are no secrets about Freemasonry, period. The only thing we are supposed to keep secret are the various ways of meeting and greeting another freemason, and actually if you look hard enough, you will find this information on the web. Freemasonry is and always has been a fraternal order of men who want to subscribe to a higher code of ethics then the general population. Our teachings include fidelity to our spouse, no cheating or lying to anyone, keep secrets when explained to us as such except murder and treason; honesty, belief in one God, help those less fortunate than ourselves, obey the law. Any of the hogwash you see on the Discovery channel or in the movies is so much BS. Want to know more about Masonry? Ask one to be one!

As a 32nd degree Freemason I can honestly say that there are very, very few secrets, all of which are methods of identifying other masons, even in the dark if need be. Our charge is "To make good men better, we don't try to make bad men good." As a freemason I am free to choose my own religion, Buddist, Christian, Muslim, Shinto, etc. Though I do believe in Christ's teachings I also am reminded about a bumber sticker I saw recently which was a quote from Ghandi which said "I love your Christ, I don't much like your Christians, they are nothing like your Christ." As a freemason I firmly believe that actions speak much louder than words. We do not generally condem others but work to improve ourselves so that our actions reflect our ideals of how to be a better person and member of society. Freemasons are often targets from other groups who claim we don't want people to think for themselves, but that is often the kettle attempting to call the pot black...isn't it. Always consider the source, and remember actions speak much louder than words.

Stratford / Fairfield / Bridgeport / Milford /
Westport / Norwalk and other Connecticut Towns
where secret societies like Masons / Jesuits /
Jewish / various catholic & protestant groups &
people are used by politically connected Town, CT.
& State Attorneys - to completely mess up rights of people and I believe steal.

Often people are unaware they are manipulated, including by the use of "Symbols" and "icons,"
which are studied by intelligence community.

"I love your Christ, I don't much like your Christians, they are nothing like your Christ." Not a truer word has been spoken. Especially in our country where "Christians" will support a candidate who is against abortion but pro-war, and can't justify health care for ALL Americans because it's expensive? Someone needs to explain these particular inconsistencies of faith and belief. This is of course not the right forum, and I will and have yet to get any answers but so far it seems that most Christians use their religion to further their ideological agendas but don't really adhere to the beliefs and actions of the man for which they are named.

Christianity believes that the innocent should be protected (unborn) and the guilty should be punished (capital punishment). That should be simple enough for anyone to follow.

Freemasons, claim to be religious, and good citizens, but yet they worship Satan in secrecy, new world order, they are in direct contact with Satan through ritualistic practices. Freemasons should turn from these activities and sincerely worship God. Why be a Freemason? when one can practice being a good citizen, and a religious person without belonging to such an organization.

Richard, you can learn more about Freemasonry by visiting your local Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. "2B1 ASK1". We as Freemasons do not recruit. I will tell you that our motto is to take a good man and make him better. A better husband, father, and neighbor to his community. We support the Constitution of the United States and affirm a belief in a Supreme Being. In most cases including ours, that is the God of Christianity, and we reverence the word of God in displaying the Holy Bible at all meetings. hope this is helpful. You can feel free to email me at mabryhome@hotmail.com if I can answer anything further for you my friend.

Richard, find out for yourself what Freemasons are about. We are not a religious organization, but we show reverence to GOD, and I mean the God of the OLD and NEW Testament. Don't listen to a post that will not even give you their name. I am a Christian and a very devoted man of deep faith in God, and a family man. I attend my church every Sunday and teach. My Pastor is a 30 year Master Mason and a wonderful man of God. I am also a Master Mason. There is not one thing in Masonry PERIOD that adheres to what this "TRUTH" guy posted. The word or name Satan is NEVER spoken or even thought of in our ritual work. A lot of our work centers around the building of the Temple of Solomon. We denounce everything evil and counter productive to family and faith and uphold to the great principles of faith, hope, and charity. It is true we have certain secrets and practices we dont tell no Masons about, which is what fuels anti Masons like "TRUTH" above. God bless you Richard. Email me if you really want the TRUTH. Billy

Everything I have heard about freemasons have been terrible. I recently have becomes friends with a freemason but he doesnt like to talk about it. I dont see him as a terrible person. I would loke to learn more about this. Does anyone know any good websights that I can learn more about the truth?

I don't know a Freemason group that doesn't recruit. I have been approached various times by people trying to "try out" members to see if I'm good enough. I have been offered the chance to join several times, but have declined because I just don't have the time to join yet another group that wants my time and money. And I just don't approve of any organization that can't honestly tell me what I'm getting into unless I officially join. What a bunch of hoohah. I'll stick to the fire department and school music boosters. At least I understand their agenda.

I wonder if parents who have their "cancer ill" children to treatment centers...free of charge would think that Freemasons are terrible people. Or the parents whose sick and broken children are treated free by The Shriners would think we are bad. Religion? I am a Christian. For the uninformed... to be a Freemason, you must believe in a Supreme Being. I am a 32 Degree Freemason and have attended a Lodge where, on the Altar, was the Koran, the St. James version of the Bible and the Talmud. There is nothing in this world so dangerous as ignorance disguised as knowledge.

Parents keep secrets from their children...and vice-versa. They steal from their employers and cry like babies when caught with their fingers in the cookie jar. This, of course, by some peoples standards would make them Devil Worshipers. These opponents of Freemasonry cheat on their spouses... cheat on their taxes... lie like rugs... but condemn an International Brotherhood that does nothing but good.

Both my son and I are Past Masters of our Lodges and proud of our Fraternity. Too bad Dan Brown has something against Freemasonry and has made big bucks by smearing something that is far bigger than him.

My little knowledge of the Masons, is that these men believe in freedom. Majority of the founding fathers are Masons. That includes George Washington, Ben Franklin...and many more US Presidents. The Philippine Revolution against Spain was founded, organized and led by Masons. Two of the most prominent heroes: Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio were Masons. I'm always fascinated by the Masons and their significant role in many revolutions that helped freed many societies/nations.

I agree not the place; but had to respond to "J.H." Got out the Good Book to give him some support....

Hmmmm...I must have the wrong version of the Bible...

"...forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us..." Matthew 6, 12 (probably say that one every Sunday J.H. and don't even know what it means).

"...if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6, 14. (My personal savior said that one, not sure he's a big capital punishment fan).

"But if you are willing to listen, I say love your enemies. Do good to those that hate you. Pray for the happiness of those that curse you. Pray for those that hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn the other cheek. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. Give what you have to anyone who asks you for it; and when things are taken away from you, don't try to get them back. Do for others as you would have them do for you. (NOTICE it doesn't say "Do unto others as they have done unto you.") Luke 6, 27-31.

J.H. Its not my job to preach but read the book first. Spouting things as you did only causes divsion and hurts the message of Christ. Show me once....in his words...where he condoned killing in ANY form....it's not in there...can't be found...won't be found...unless FOX gets to re-write the GOOD BOOk.

NOW TO THE MASONS... I am a Mason, my father is a Mason, his father was a Mason. I can tell you from personal experience...no Satanic rituals, no mention of Satan...nothing but what some have said herein...a society or club of men...who seek only the betterment of themselves and society based upon spiritual principles that would have been taught by Christ and many other accepted religious figures and world religions.

So let me get this straight. You have the bible on one side and the koran on the other side. You speak of peace and freedom yet you have koran on your alter? Koran does not teach peace. It teachs to murder disbelieavers . You are all nothing but a bunch of lying brainwashed people.

The "secrets" are there for good reasons.

1. There is a shared experience in ritual, it's part of a "common bond" with other Masons. If you meet a brother Mason, you always have that, private, part to start with to build a friendship with, even if you don't have a lot of common background (like he is from another country or culture). It's part of the "glue" that holds the fraternity together, and it's "private". If you don't do the "work", make the decision to go through the teachings and ritual, you won't have the same "base" to start from.
2. The ways Masons recognize each other is private (I won't even call it "secret") because a Mason will usually inherently believe that a brother Mason has his best interests at heart. Someone falsely claiming to be a Mason can potentially put a Mason at a disadvantage.
3. Finally, Masonry is a progressive science, taught by degrees. You need to learn and process one set of information before you get to the next set. If an architect took only very advanced courses, but never took the basics, then when he designed a building it can fall and injure the occupants. So it is with Masonry. You start with one set of knowledge, and build on it. The "secrets" are private so that the person can get the information and lessons in the proper order, as opposed to getting something out of context.

Finally, to correct a number of posters, Masonry is NOT a religion. It is a system of morality, a study in ethics, and one of many paths to try to be a "better man". Re-read what the other Masons have written.

I hope that clears a few things up!

what a crock of shit--all the rumors are there for a reason, they are TRUE! Satanic worship (oh, excuse me, worshipping Lucifer, the angel who loves us most), murders, sacrifice of first born, drug running, human trafficking, extortion, bribery, pedophilia, slavery, the most highly organized mob in the world--THAT is "free"masonry-yeah, "free," tell it to all of their victims that they laughingly refer to as their slaves!!! Brown IS a freemason and his family members come from the very top--he is propaganda in the guise of criticism--EVERYthing he writes is signed of by them first. They own lots of the politicians and cops. You cannot say no and they tell you if you leave, you die, just like a regular mob. They prey on the weak. That is my experience. They play both sides by pretending to the millions at the lower level that they are righteous while manipulating them and justify it to themselves because they believe as Lucifer taught us that we are animals and it is survival of the fittest. Opus Dei is the organization that has tried to stop that and thus the propaganda against them. and if they don't manage to block this they better think twice before punishing me for it!!!

I am not a Mason, nor was my father. I do , however have several uncles, a grandfather and a great grandfather who were all Masons. I think that
1. Dan Brown is an author who like to use controversial idealogies to sell books. I have enjoyed several of them. I don't think he is against Masons, he wants to sell books.
2. There is NO one who has been involved with the Shriner Hospitals and theamazing work they do for children in need who would criticize this organization. Because of the Shriners, innumerable advances have been made in pediatric healthcare. My family is forever thankful, and I gladly purchase a paper each year.
3. The Masons, as previously stated, not a religion, but an organization of men.
4. I do find it very intriguing that so many of our founding fathers and men of power are members.

If anyone out there is interested in learning exactly what the Freemasons are about, I urge you to go to the "horse's mouth", so to speak, Call your local Masonic Lodge--listed in the phone book, how secret is that?--and ask about their coffee or breakfast meetings. These are times the lodge is open to the public.

Several years ago I attended a coffee and was invited to bring my questions. I got a tour of the lodge--nothing secret in that room. After many questions over a period of a month or so, I liked what I saw and had experienced and asked how I could join.

I was presented with an application. The membership must then vote on the application and then appoint an investigation committee--yes, they want truthful people and will check you out. After being approved I received my first degree. Unlike college, first you receive the degree and then you do the work--memory work. Once you have finished your work, you are ready for the next degree, etc. Only when you ahieve the level of Master Mason will you have to pay dues--$35/year at our lodge!

Because membership has to be earned, I am very close to all my brothers.

My grandfather was a freemason and a proud one at that. Further, the "sisters" of the Masonic Temple is "The Order of the Eastern Star". My grandmother was a life long member and at one time "head" of our local chapter.
I agree that if you want to learn more about these organizations, visit your local chapter and don't listen to the "hogwash" that the media plays upon uneducated listeners!

To all of you who want to make others believe that freemasons are god and that everything the history channel says is BS, yu are full of it. George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were freemasons. The freemasons and the Iluminati aqre one and the same. These secret societies are all all behind one purpose, to destroy man kind and rule the world, to make innocent Christians slaves or prisoners, much like Hitler did in WWII, their goal is total world domination. Why do you think they want to take GOD out of our pledge of allegiance, why do you think they want to take relgious symbols out of churches and parishes, why do you think they brought down the twin towers? Do you think they care about those almost 3,000 people that died that day? Do you think they give a rat's ass about the troops dying daily for the last 8 years who are fighting a war that will never end? Yes, the iluminati does work for satan, and satan is behind the corruption in the government, in the media, how the general public is told lies daily to believe what they want you to believe, there is no more democracy anymore, it is a thing fo the past, what there is, is a series of events that are planned and are delivered in a manner that is made to look like a natural result, as is the collapse of the economy, it is another form of manipulation, another way to hurt the american people, to makes us ever more dependent of our government, who does not care about us, who lies to us and who decieves us daily, tha same government who assasinated JFK and JFK, Jr., the same government that is going to make the USA one country with Canada and Mexico, the same government that is slowly destroying the american dollar, the same government that has been controlled since the beginning of the century. Wake up and do some research, for all those who work for satan will join him in the eternal lake of fire, and those who serve God, the father, the almighty and who keep your hearts pure and repent of your sins, will see the gates of heaven and forever be in his kingdom. The choice is yours, and for those who want to mck my words, read revelations where it says that the final war will be along the banks of the Euphrates river, that is where ur trops are now, put it together yourselves and open your eyes, the Iluminati is wanting to declare Martial Law here, foreign troops are being trained on american soil in Deep Underground Military Bases, they were seen not too long ago in Katrina, when Martial Law was declared in Louisiana after the devastation, many died cause help wasn't allwed in...wake up people, stop being puppets, look beyond the horizon before it's too late.

Came across an recent interview about Dan Brown. According to the interview, Brown's turning from "religion" started in around the seventh or eighth grade. He said that when he asked a priest (he was raised Episcopalian) about the origins of the universe according to science, the priest said young boys do not ask those type of questions. Sad. Now Brown (with the help of Forest Gump and Opey) continues in his "innocent" historically bad theology trek. Jesus said "if the light that is in you darkness, how great is that darkness." I wish that priest would had sat Brown down, and explained to him that our universe did not originate randomly. A word that Brown used in the aforementioned article, even though things in this life happen randomly. Our literal physical existence stems from our creator, i.e. God who according to the Christian faith is the Father of (some may not like this) our Lord Jesus Christ. Browns turning point from religion comes from a lack of understanding on the word "random." Everything in our physical world moves with order and purpose. The only thing out or order is sinful humanity. We live as if we do not have a diving destiny. Simply put, we do not have faith in objective truth. For the Christian, objective truth is incarnational, i.e. found in the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He brings us back in order with God, the Creator of All Things. And even though (in Brown's mind a lack of understanding of Biblical Revelation) things in this fallen world at times happen randomly, which reveals the chaos of human existence in a fallen world, God's purpose can be understood by just believing the gospel and beginning and sustaining a life of faith.

Freemasons are no worse off than the Christians. They simply play with things they don't understand. Much like a Christian.
Take for instance the symbol of Baphomet. Masons lost track of its meaning. What they don't understand, nor Christians, is that this symbol was developed as a sign of the church. In this symbol, we see femanine wisdom protected by a goat. Simply look up Pallas Aethena, the goddess of Greek wisdom - protected by her goatskin shield. There's your meaning. It's simply your Greek Christianity protected by the Scape Goat. Take that Goatskin shield away, and the whore will walk naked.
In other words, the church damns the followers of Baphomet straight to hell. But the symbol of Baphomet is symbolic of the church itself. Therefore, the church actually damns itself straight to hell. Thus, you have the serpent eating it's own tail. Get the picture.
The Freemasons don't keep secrets. They simply don't know the meaning behind their own symbols. The meaning was lost over time.
