Keith Olbermann & Depth Perception

Keith Olbermann may be clear-sighted on his show, but his vision is not so clear on the road. In fact he doesn't drive at all, because of a decades-old issue with his depth perception.

Way back in 1980, Keith Olbermann had an accident in which he hit his head on a subway door in New York, and it left him with impaired vision that prevents him from driving as he has no depth perception when moving over 15 miles per hour. There are various ocular conditions that can oaffect depth perception, including amblyopia, optic nerve hypoplasia, and strabismus And if one of your two eyes is damaged, your binocular depth perception will of course be impaired by that.

Here's hoping Keith Olbermann stays healthy from now on.. but it's probably just as well that he doesn't drive, since I imagine he would never want to turn right! (BOOM, thanks I'll be here all week.)

Keith Olbermann & Depth Perception
wikipedia

Olbermann suffers from a mild case of celiac disease,[79] as well as restless legs syndrome.[80] He also suffered a partial loss of depth perception following a head injury from "leaping" on to the NYC subway in August of 1980...

Finally we have some liberals on the air to combat the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity. It is also refreshing to see the style pointing out how the right lies and twists things by showing us the other side and the truth. I wish things were more "fair and balanced".

keith is a great man

Posted by: paul at September 22, 2009 7:05 PM

Wish Keith would have a show face to face with neoconservative like Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and shut them up once and for all.
That's my dream .

Posted by: Mo at September 22, 2009 7:55 PM

NOT ONLY A GREAT COMMENTATOR BUT A GOOD PERSON. THE ONE GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KEITH AND HIS RIVAL COUNTERPARTS AT FOX NEWS, HANNITY, BECK, AND LOUD MOUTH O'RIELLY IS THAT KEITH IS A GENTLEMAN AND INTELLIGENT!

I do enjoy his perceptions of the political world and his sense of humor. An intellegent person.
Too bad the last guy preferred to be anon. Gutless red neck with no view other than the tunnel he looks thru. Som use a 4 letter word to express himself. Probably could not spell anything longer.

Posted by: Anonymous at September 22, 2009 10:21 PM

Keith is a left wing socialist bum.

Posted by: jd at September 22, 2009 11:02 PM

Having lived thru 6 decades I applaud Mr. Olbermann for giving us information (and humor) that exposes the lunacy of those that insult, ridicule, or blatantly denounce innate intelligence.

Posted by: Larry at September 23, 2009 12:55 AM

I'm a lawyer who holds a political science degree and only like to listen to progams with substance. Olbermann is one of my favorites.

His mind quick and brilliant. You can tell he is articulate, well read knows history and politics, is gifted and has a wicked/witty sense of humor.

You can tell Hannety and O'Reilly are envious--they try to copy his format but will never match up.

If only all news reporting did 10% of your background research before coming on air. You can call Keith Olbermann any names but give it to him for being truthful, passionate and a true patriot. Sorry for the loss of your mom. I am sure she was very proud of you. Keep fighting for the voiceless underdog.

Obermann is an ASS, Oreilly and Hannity ratings are triple this losers. Do you NOT notice he never has a conflicting opinion on his show?//

Posted by: dave at September 24, 2009 2:30 AM

Any body that watches Olbermann and can't see the hate he spews constantly must be watching with the same depth perception that Olbermann has. This man can not have any show without bashing his competition. Funny thing, the competition never mentions him. Probably because NOBODY watches Countdown. And yes, he spews hate and dave is right. He can not put an opposing view on his show... EVER! I try to watch but without someone challenging him..what is the point? I want both sides. Fair and Balanced? NOT!

Posted by: Anonymous at September 25, 2009 5:06 AM

oberman did more than damage his depth perception
he bashed his head hard enough the he is a total
retard. If he is so good how come his rating can
not even match Beck's reruns at 2:00 am. Oberloser
couldn't make it in sports now he is a loser at
what ever he and chris mathless call news. oberfuck
Mathless and Mayer are patroits of the progressive
left liberal communist party. I name call because
that's all the intellect they have.

Posted by: steve at September 25, 2009 7:33 AM

KEITH OLBERMANN YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I ENJOY YOUR SHOW; I DON'T CARE WHAT ANY IGNORANT PERSON SAY AGAINST YOU, I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF, THEY ARE JUST JEALOUS OF YOU.

Posted by: Rosalind Phillips at September 25, 2009 7:35 AM

Olbermann is pathetic. He ALWAYS has something nasty and hateful to say about Bush.
Also it is apparent he is a homosexual. You can tell he wants to have sex with Obama. Every time he speaks of him he sounds like a middle school punk talking about someone he's infatuated with.
Yes, he may be smart, but intelligence does not mean you have any class.
At least O'Reilly has respect for an opposing view.

Posted by: John Osborne at September 25, 2009 7:46 AM

None of these people, either right or left, are news people. They, all of them, are nothing more than entertainers editorializing their own views. I, for one, find them to be funny at times and annoying at other times. I have no idea how they call FOX a "news channel" or MSNBC "the place for politics".

Posted by: louis hroncich at September 25, 2009 8:04 AM

With Keith and Rachel on Mon - Fri explains why MSNBC so often comes in behind in the ratings. Keep up the good fight Bill and Sean.

Posted by: R. Boncek at September 25, 2009 9:00 AM

You should change the name of his show to ( No news !! Just beating up on someone )

Posted by: Flo Aromando at September 25, 2009 9:37 AM

I think Oberman could double his income if he had a new show called "Count Up, or Count Left or Count Right". He could transform himself and spew hatred to the left.

Posted by: Del at September 25, 2009 9:40 AM

What a revealing insight this has offered, a head injury ! Perhaps this is why his views on many subjects lack any depth!

Posted by: Depth of Vision at September 25, 2009 9:41 AM

If Keith were to shave his head you could see you could see his horns.

Posted by: TC at September 25, 2009 10:03 AM

Keith Oberman are you kidding me, his show is not for political insight and the truth, his show is mainly to bash everyone on the right especially Bill Oreilly. Bill Oreilly at least has views on both side of the party and doesn't agree with just conservatives. Rachel Maddow come on, really.

Posted by: mario at September 25, 2009 10:15 AM

Republicans(mostly southerners) want to secede from the United States (civil war syndrome, also see recent comments by Texas governor). Wonder why they are anti-government (remember who lost the civil war and to whom). Now, they have the likes of Shaun (Sean) Hanity; Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, etc, talking down the United States government, inciting fears, hatred and up-rising (see recent town hall meetings on healthcare), all in the name of free speech. (granted by same government they want abolished)

Keith Oberman, Rachel Maddox, and MSNBC counter team, thank you for recognizing the threat these individuals pose by giving us a another view and in the process exposing these imbeciles. Thank you Keith!!! I watch you every time I can. Hope they find a cure for your depth perception soon. America needs likes of you to sustain our democracy.

Posted by: Barry at September 25, 2009 10:46 AM

Keith Olbermann does speak for the underdog and the voiceless. He researches and points out what's wrong and inconsistent with "others" reporting on the same topics and issues. Kudos to you Keith because of your compassion, insight and truthfullness. I started watching Mr. Olbermann about a year ago and I WILL NOT do anything at the 8 o'clock eastern hour when his show is on. I also got my 28 year son hooked on his show. Now we text throughout some of his shows commenting on various issues. It is truly refreshing and a treat to watch him daily. Often times when he is not on....I am disappointed. I know he loves sports, especially baseball, but please don't ever leave as the host of countdown. I hope your father is better!

Posted by: MC at September 25, 2009 11:04 AM

Now I understand Oberman. His childish antics and wild eyed commentary at the end of his program are the worst of television. I expect him any moment to put a pacifier in his mouth and pout.

Incredibly stupid television. I turn him on one day and a week later turn him on again and it is like soap operas, you have not missed anything.

Posted by: Duane Nicholson at September 25, 2009 11:05 AM

I did'nt read a intelligent comment anywhere here, so I won't make one!!!

Posted by: Gary Franklin at September 25, 2009 11:07 AM

Oberman is what that Beck the jackass wants to be but then there is a limit to his capabilities.
Beck is only chasing shadows ,they are not and i repeat NOT in the same league.

Posted by: john jones at September 25, 2009 11:16 AM

Keith and Rachel are true patriots. They constantly expose the hypocrisy of the "far" right. I think intelligent right-wingers(if there ever were such a thing:) actually don't speak unless they have something productive and intelligent to say. These fox "anal"ist are stone cold "let's bring slavery back" racist. Keith and Rachel are too smart not to do what they do. If not for them Mcon and Palin would be in office. THAT'S FCKIN SCARY. Keith and Rachel saved all mankind. LOL!!!

Posted by: Unsilent Majority at September 25, 2009 11:47 AM

Olberma sux. MSNBC has more letters in it's title than O' has viewers. He wouldn't stand a chance up against Beck, Hannity, or Limbaugh. I think that injury caused by Olberman jumping on a subway (dumb thing to do in the first place) caused more than vision impairment if you know what I mean. Left wing blowhard!

Posted by: Chuck at September 25, 2009 11:47 AM

Please, you people with the fair and balance stuff!
need to stop is your life fair and balance? fox is right? They don't talk about him because if people had a brain they would watch him. He at lease make's sure he is right on what he talks about. keep writing about him and you say hate' hate is on fox all day long glenn beck is the biggest hater ever. next to rush L.

Posted by: Antrone Bradford at September 25, 2009 11:50 AM

As a conservative, I applaud Mr.Olbermann. He continually reinforces the fact the most of the Left leaning arguments are infantile attacks on anything but fact. He is at least (occasionally)entertaining...and occasionally (though rarely) accurate. (Eventual) medical review will confirm that far more then his vision has suffered from a lack of depth.

Posted by: jeff hersha at September 25, 2009 12:11 PM

Keith's a very smart dude, which is more than I can say for the sean's, bill's, and glen's of the world of Faux. These guys are like 3 punchlines..all..wrapped..up..into..one..big faux joke. Anybody with mustard seed intellect would know that these faux guys need therapy. I'm nowhere close to being a doctor and I can diagnose their condition. They suffer from a illness called(Ignoracismitis)which can only be cured through cancellation and regulation. Feel me?

Posted by: Unsilent Majority at September 25, 2009 12:11 PM

He also lacks depth perception with his worldview. Anyone who thinks he is intelligent must be viewing from the primordial morass. He is a non-stop self promoter who lacks depth and perspective and tows the line for NBC and GE.

Posted by: Tim at September 25, 2009 12:14 PM

Keith is one of the best Political show hosts and most knowledgable ,plus he lets his guests speak.
Also him getting Rachel Maddow on the air was great.
I like Chris Matthews, but he needs to shut up a bit and let his guests answer the questions he poses
and Ed is coming along nicely. Msnbc should get rid of Morning Joe (Scarborough) and send him to(Fox) Fixnews, and rename the show Morning Meeka and let her run it...and the line up would be perfect....But keith still is the man.

Posted by: Steve at September 25, 2009 12:33 PM

Mario, Your an idiot. Quit sounding as stupid as you are, sterotyping Southern Republicans or anyone else for that matter, like you have shows you have no personal ideas or opinions you can only repeat the stupidity you hear from MSNBC. Listen, learn and then decide.

Posted by: southern republican at September 25, 2009 12:37 PM

Oh yeah!! Mr.Olberman was also and still is a helluva sports analyst. He seems a little au contraire at first sight on his MSNBC gig, but when you watch him for a while you can see and hear he has a good sense of humor. If you read this Keith, keep it up. We really do need people like you to make "truth" and the "right" toe the line. It's amazing how people just refuse to admit the truth. To be oblivious and in total denial is a bad combination. Unplug yourself people. Step out of your little matrix. I'm done!

Posted by: Unsilent Majority at September 25, 2009 12:38 PM

If Keith were not on T.V. I would'nt watch any news at all.

Posted by: Steve Azevedo at September 25, 2009 12:39 PM

Olbermann sucks, and his ratings reflect that. He is childish, his topics on his shows are boring. It's hard to take this clown serious.

Posted by: Mark Crawford at September 25, 2009 1:14 PM

Sean Hanniity and Glen Beck are no more than entertainers that to try to incite people with their constant drumming of inaccurate information. I get so angry that I cannot stand to watch for any length of time, they make me sick. The Fox network is no more than a spokesman for the Republican party I look forward each night to Countdown and Keith's observations as well as his wit. Keep it up Keith.

Comparing Keith Olbermann to those hacks on Fox News is like the Liberty Bell vs. the Dinner Bell! Olbermann's presentation shows the lies that the GOP and Conservatives refuse to face. Since Glenn Beck expounds a return to slavery (read his book), Rush Limbaugh expounds racism, and Sean Hannity expounds stupidity, Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Rachel Maddow are the ONLY people calling them out! I'd LOVE to see a Head-to-Head: Limbaugh and Beck vs. Olbermann and Maddow! (My money is on Keith and Rachel).

Posted by: HDB at September 25, 2009 1:26 PM

I don't get his humor and I don't get the hatred that he spits. I try to understand what he is saying but his rolling stupid monkey like eyes is too distracting. He is as bad as Rachel, and absolutely no match to O'Reilly. Some of the above posts which compared him to greats like Rush f'in cracked me up. C'mon guys, what is wrong with your head? Forget being left or right, when it comes to entertainment no one can touch Rush by a 12 feet pole.

What would us Americans that believe in equality and justice for ALL do without MSNBC? I am a 61 yr old white man raised up in "Jesse Helms Hell" here in rural N.C. Seems like we were the only liberal family in the county. My father started my political education when I was 12yrs and saved me from becoming a racist, sexist, etc, etc. Republican Moron ... I have spent my life trying to figure out how blue collar people like myself could ever vote for a damn party that has fought against every law or program that protects them.. Liberals have had to fight for us against these evil bastards called Republicans back thru history. I call them the " Ugly Americans" / "The Dark Side"... All the MSNBC people, Ed,Chris,Keith and Rachel are great.. But would like to send the Joe Bozo in the morning over to Fixed News...Keep up the great work and and you know you are doing, saying the right things if the "Ugly Americans" hate you !!!

Posted by: bluecollar at September 25, 2009 2:40 PM

I listened to Rush for years and Hannity and Bill O'Reily but after listening and not getting the truth I decided to try someone else and Keith was that person I don't always agree but he does go after the truth and attacks both sides when they do wrong. Keith is the best

Posted by: ANTONIO P. ABARCA at September 25, 2009 3:30 PM

Keith is a first class idiot. All he does is bitch and complain about Fox News. Fox should pay him for advertising so much of Beck's and Bill O'Reilly's shows. I don't have to watch them because when KeithO is on, he runs their shows for them.

Posted by: bossone at September 25, 2009 3:38 PM

Posted by: Patrick Nwaokolo at September 25, 2009 3:59 PM

I wish I was as quick, prepared, well spoken and intelligent as Mr. Olbermann. I absolutely love when he proves Beck, Limbaugh and the likes of them WRONG. He has the facts and the where with all to present them. God Bless.

Posted by: Gary Chambers at September 25, 2009 4:06 PM

Good Luck to Keith in his battle with health problems. I would like to think he will push harder on the Democrats. These Dems. are very weak in the SPINE. They always seem to let the Republicans walk all over them. The Dems.control both Halls of Congress and the White House, now all they need is some BALLS to go along with potential they have. There seems to be very few excuses for them not having their way with Health Care reform or anything else they want. They won, they have the POWER to make things happen. They have to learn how to play as HARD as the Republicans. If anyone thinks the Repubs. would miss an opportunity like the Dems. have, they might be from another Planet. I think I have began to think of myself as an independent. Even though I'M EMPATHETIC with the need for Health care REFORM.
