Mark Whicker Dugard Column: Worst Idea Ever

A column by sports writer Mark Whicker, about all the sports events Jaycee Dugard missed while in captivity, is being hailed today as the worst column ever written, and had people everywheree wondering "what the heck was Mark Whicker thinking?"

The piece shows a bizarre disregard for the horror of Dugard's captivity and abuse, irreverently lamenting that Dugard missed so many great sports stories while she was busy being helpd captive and psychologically and physically abused.. Whicker than listed some of the best sports news she was distracted from by the years of inhumane treatment.

Whicker has now put out an apology, or a partial apology, for his column, but as shown in the Jezebel article below his private emails to readers suggest he doesn't relaly know what he did wrong. So much for the story that print writers are more professional than bloggers!

Ok, who wrote the article posted above? Obviously no one bothered to proofread. If you are going to publish news, proofread it first, just a suggestion.

Saw nothing wrong with the article. Just a point of view.

Give me a break! Haven't you ever heard of spell check? (Use context check too while you're at it.)

I don’t care about the spell check and as long as you manage to commutate a thought your still commutating so those people need to just get over it.

Bottom line is the article didn’t state anything wrong so why should you apologize

To Mr. Whicker--I am outraged that you would think your comments were blown out of proportion.

This little girl was abducted, raped, and bore 2 children while kept in "the yard." She feared for her life and the lives of her children. How dare you think your comments were not offensive. Your apology was as transparent and as shallow as are you. Shame on you and your elevated sense of self worth that is evidenced by your weak defense of your actions.

There are many, many things she missed during her 18 years of hell. As I think how you used her ordeal to highlight sports events, I think time in a yard might teach you a thing or two about sensitivity and compassion for others. You have no soul, Mr. Whicker. You are a hollow, insensitive man who might have been around for those important sports events, but it is obvious you missed a whole lot more. Maybe you should have paid more attention to HUMANITY.

Stop. Look. Listen. Change.
