Project Runway's Tim Gunn: Marvel Crimefighter!

After years of serving America as a fashion superhero, Project Runway's TIm Gunn is now set to become a superhero for real, as he joins the ranks of Marvel Comics Crimefighters.

Tim Gunn will appear in comic form as the "Loaded Gunn" who helps some vintage Marvel heroes from the sixties return to action and protect a collection of superhero costumes fomr falling into the wrong hands.

I'm not a fashion person at all but even I appreciate the class and style Tim Gunn brings to Project Runway, and I respect that he does a reality show not based on vapid people suffering humiliation and degradation, but on real artists showing their talent and skill. It's only fair that someone who celebrates people with real gifts gets the chance to enter the world of super powers! I'll be looking out for Tim Gunn's crimefighter debut with Marvel Comics.

Tim Gunn is taking his fight against fashion crimes from the workrooms of "Project Runway" to the pages of a comic book... as part of a book that reintroduces a group of Marvel's high-fashion "Models Inc." comic characters from the 1960s.

Just what we need, a flame-thrower super hero. Evidently fags need a hero. I'll never buy another marvel comic.

I've always thought Project Runway is one of the stupidest shows ever made. I don't like anything about Project Runway. And I don't like Gay Tim Gunn. Now, I don't like Marvel Comics.

Posted by: John at September 8, 2009 10:25 AM

Wow....some serious idiots posting comments (angelsden & joe steele). Is Marvel going gay NOW?....NO, If you were a true Marvel fan and been reading the comics for any length of time, you would know that Marvel has ALWAYS had "gay" characters....and SO WHAT? And JOE...no, "fags" don't need a hero.....just a break from idiots and their bias, so if you never buy another Marvel comic....? Who cares? Ya won't be missed....at the comic store or in life! Grow up already. I agree that a "Tim Gunn" comic is pretty lame, but no lamer than some of the people and comments we GAYS deal with an a regular basis, so...

This makes me sick.

Posted by: Kenny at September 8, 2009 10:30 AM

Maybe this super hero stores his weapon up his butt.

Posted by: Melissa at September 8, 2009 10:33 AM

I agree with 2Steves, it is people like Joe who fill the world with idiots. I guess he did not know that Hulkling and Wiican are gay. Yes Magneto's grandson is gay, so what. Mystique is also bi, but to you Joe that's probably hot. Why is it two girls going at it is fine to all the racist straight men out there? Any way Tim Gunn a super hero, please. How lame and Disney; one question, why????

I just died a little inside

Posted by: gtx1029 at September 8, 2009 11:15 AM

This is just sad. The real problem isn't just that it's totally gay, but the fact that they're hyping it. There have been other famous people who made cameos in Marvel comics, but we didn't see them pop up in the "most searched" column on Yahoo, did we? Nor did we see them interviewed for their bit part in comics. No, this is part of a gay agenda.

Racist Homophobic American Adolecents Who Never Grew Up... Look around you, you are who you hate. As a 40 yr old American male who grew up reading comic books and still buys comics, I must say that I'm not happy with Disney's purchase of Marvel, and this (whoever the hell he his) Timm Gun fiasco coming right out of the gate just proves it. It's not suprising to me that Disney would do something so completely idiotic and obviously marketing driven as their first move with the Marvel stable. Just like the backlash it generated doesn't suprise me either. Disney executives are so out of touch with reality, and America will always be homophobic and racist. It was my love of marvel comics that helped me embrace diversity and different outlooks and lifestyles. We're all mutants, but some are morlocks, some are mauraders and some of us are even x-men who embrace the dream of a world in which we can all live together in peace. And btw, fags do need heroes too, everybody does. Try to grow some understanding inside yourself, jackass.

Posted by: fuegoman at September 8, 2009 11:18 AM

Its kind of odd but least he was a comic fan and an art student...I mean who reads comics and not wanna be a super hero.

Posted by: Wallace at September 8, 2009 11:24 AM

don't blame Stan Lee for this - he has almost nothing to do with Marvel these days....

Posted by: Billyph at September 8, 2009 11:34 AM

don,t worry stright people i hear DC is comeing out with GAY SMASHER.

Isn't this why alpha flight failed, miserably something about people not wanting to see faggish shit(if you don't know, alpha flight introduced the first homo in modern comics *northstar* come out the closet, a couple issues later they come off the shelves-lack of sales they claimed) oh well its not like I did'nt expect this type b.s. to start as soon as disney was handed the keys to the door. guess it was only fitting that stan created the marvel beast, and by his hand it has been destroyed, some hero you turned out to be stan, you turned your back on the public your fans, something "a true hero would never do", thanks for the qoute stan (sell out)

Posted by: It Begins at September 8, 2009 12:55 PM

You people sound pathetic! First off the gay bashing is so out of line and childish. Second Marvel has done stupid/lame stories like this before and they will continue regardless of Disney or not! And Third, so what, it's not the first gay Marvel character ever, some fans...

Posted by: J at September 8, 2009 1:19 PM

I can't believe this. I'm utterly shocked. At first I thought "Yeah Marvel being bought by Disney? Not a fantastic idea". This clinches it, I'm appalled at this turn of what used to be an amazing comic book compnany. Fashion? Are you f***ing kidding me?! We may as well have a superhero who picks up dog sh** and dresses like a pooper-scooper!

Posted by: MOBmentality at September 8, 2009 1:23 PM

Why are you folks blaming Disney for this stint? Anyone with even the tineist iota of business sense knows it takes more than just a few days to open up new comic lines, while a merger such as Disney buying out Marvel could potentially happen overnight. This comic, as stupid as it is, is something that Marvel has been planning to do since BEFORE the Mouse came on the scene.

As far as how Disney is going to change Marvel, let's back off and see what happens before we bitch. Warner Brothers did a fine job of staying out of the way of DC after they picked them up, and DC came back strong with the revamped Batman franchise (though the superman reboot went a little limp, and the Green Latnern is still a little iffy). Considering that Disney is leaving all of the existing contracts in place with production studios (Fox 20th, Paramount, and Universal all have existing contracts for X-Men, Spiderman, and Iron Man), chances are we aren't going to see a big change in the way Marvel does business, other than them having some serious coffers to bank from.

Considering how many seasons Project Runway has been on the air, this thing with Tim Gunn has probably been in the works for at least a couple months by now. Disney didn't get a say in business ops. until they started putting money down, which was only confirmed last week.

But then again, these boards would be empty if we tried to think things out logically before we began pissing and moaning.

what do you expect from Marvel selling to Disney?

Posted by: Rand at September 8, 2009 1:59 PM

This is totally apart of the gay agenda! why is it all gays have to be known as "gay" only? Like that is their only I.D. in life? You don't see straight men bragging about being straight. And if it isn't their fault, maybe pedophiles are innocent too! After all they are only doing what they "feel" is right, and who are we to judge? They have been turned over to depraved minds.

Posted by: Augustb3 at September 8, 2009 2:10 PM

oh my goodness! ROTFLMAO! Such a temptest in a demi tasse! Tim being the class act he is, he's most likely having a bit of fun with it - just as you folks should - Get a grip and Lighten Up! It will most likely be a 'one-of', just for a bit of fun.

Posted by: kate at September 8, 2009 3:24 PM

Marketing ploy! No matter who is in control of Marvel, comics in general have always tried to seize current trends and place there own spin to them. In the digital age they have to do something to sell more print comics, especially a reintro. I've never watched Project Runway, but from what I know of Mr. Gunn he is a gentleman and has quite a bit of personality. He could be a cool guest star if treated properly. His sexual preference is as important an issue as is his ethnicity. Comics have always tried to expand horizons of understanding and bridge gaps of separation. If you don't like Mr. Gunn; for whatever reason, don't buy the comic he's appearing in. To those of you who are trying to force your views off on others, feel free to express yourselves but do it respectfully. I am a married WASP father who happens to have a longtime friend who is a homosexual man. I respect him even though I don't agree with his decisions. When he 'came out' in college I made my views as an evangelical Christian clear to him, and we agreed to disagree. How he lives his life is his responsibility. He hasn't changed from before and he would never pressure anyone into agreement with his worldview. There are narrow minded bigots on all sides.

Posted by: phoobear at September 8, 2009 6:19 PM

Who cares? I won't read it. I hate gimmicks but I'm not really the target audience either. You want to stop this? Don't buy it. I agree the content and subject matter don't appeal to me. Is it going to make a great novelty issue that will be part of some collection they drag out fifty years from now to show how we struggled with tolerance back in the good old days? Probably. I personally don't believe comics are the place to advance a social agenda. They have an exceptionally poor history for it. If they can come up with one stand-alone African American character that doesn't have the word Black tagged on to the front of their name maybe they can move on to Gay rights but until then maybe they should stick to entertainment. However, the "Gay Panther" or "Gay Lightning" does have a great ring to it.

The chick interviewing Tim Gunn works at Marvel?
What's up with the Madonna gloves? Was she going for a Dexys Midnight Runners look? I dont think she was born until the mid 80's; she shouldn't try and dress like the era. The 80's was a horrible era for clothing, I lived it. As for the Marvel and Disney marriage, I cringed when I heard. It can't be good. Stan Lee holds a ceremonial position at Marvel so don't blame him. He backs the marriage, but what do you expect him to say?

Posted by: Coach McGuirk at September 8, 2009 9:48 PM

Come on guys you had to know that when Disney buys something it usually is never that good to begin with. When they acquired Marvel that was probably one of the worst moves for Marvel to ever agree to. I mean I thought that Pixar (another one of Disney's LBs (little bitchs)) wanting to make an Antman movie was bad, but this is one of the worst ideas out there. This is like making WWE's Goldust a superhero or making a comic completely about a superhero bowler. Tim Gunn should stick with Poject Runway and leave Marvel Universe alone.

Posted by: Jonah Hex at September 8, 2009 10:30 PM

Disney buying Marvel? That was bad. Tim Gunn a superhero style consultant? That was worse. The only thing that is the worst news in the whole entire Disney buy out is that Pixar is deciding to do an Antman movie. I'm sorry but if they are still planning an Avengers movie how is an animated Antman going to fit in with real actors? As far as things go, yeah the Marvel Universe's future looks bleak but as the old saying goes "things always look bleak before they tend to get better". Give Disney & Gunn a chance before running and crying that they have gone and totally destroyed MU. As far as the gay bashing goes GROW THE F UP YOU WHINEY LITTLE DMFS! There will always be gay people in real life so what makes real life any different than comics? A little adversity never killed anyone and if it did boo hoo, build a F'N bridge and get your fat A over it.

Posted by: Jo Momma at September 8, 2009 10:44 PM

First of all Stan Lee is not the sell out hes accused of being, Marvel is publicly owned so it is the board of directors or w/e that sold out, yes I am sure Stan Lee is on that board but he is but 1 man. I hope it wasn't/doubt it wasn't Stans idea to sell to disney...Hope hope hope. On the subject now This is worst idea ever for a super hero I would rather see Hannah Montana as a super hero than this nobody, The first time I have ever heard of him was like 5 mins ago. Who cares if hes gay or not that doesn't matter what does matter is to the people that know and read the comics, im sure they have never heard of this yahoo like me. This idead will fail miserably and I think it might just be the beginning of the end for marvel.

On a side note, when did Cyndi Lauper start working for Marvel.......LMAO glad to see shes working again.

What the fag is going on here

Posted by: Anonymous at September 9, 2009 12:10 AM

Tim Gunn is fantastic. I've got a cardboard cutout of him in my pencil holder to remind me to keep moving. He's serious, kind, amiable, civil. And he's intelligent, too. That IS a superhero!
Also, it's no more selling out to use "characters" from real life (Obama, but also the Simon Pegg-like member of "The Boys")in the comics than it is to make "real-life" heroes of our two-dimensional ones, albeit in films; and further smearing of lines occurs when book authors (Denise Mina) or musicians (Gerard Way) write a comic's story. It's evolution! Hooray!
