Boeing Assembly Line: New Jobs?

A new Boeing assembly llne is opening in South Carolina, to help build a new line of planes, 787 jetliners that require an expanded work force and ramped up manufacturing. This should bring many new job opportunities, but how much benefit will it really bring?

Commercial airlines have been struggling, but Boeing is putting lots of investment into this new fleet of planes, hoping airline tickets will bring more profit as the economy improves. They hope an improved airline experience for travelers will come with a new fleet of jets, are taking advantage of the chance to use non-union workers in South Carolina, and hopefully workers will still benefit from solid work opportunities. But union reps might caution workers to be wary of buying a ticket on this plane. For more detail, see the article below:

Boeing Co. will open a second assembly line for its long-delayed 787 jetliner in South Carolina, expanding beyond its longtime manufacturing base in Washington state to take advantage of economic incentives and a nonunion work force...It chose the site in North Charleston over Everett, Wash., because it best suited plans to boost production of the highly anticipated jet, designed to carry up to 250 passengers...
