Rev. Al Sharpton Letter to NFL: Full Text

Al Sharpton, not surprisingly, has been among the loudest critics of Rush Limbaugh's plan to buy the St. Louis Rams. Below is the full text of his letter to the NFL on this subject, which in my opinion is fairly persuasive, whatever you may think of Sharpton himself:

Rev. Al Sharpton Letter to NFL: Full Text

Monday, October 12, 2009
Commissioner Roger Goodell
National Football League
280 Park Avenue
NY, NY 10017

Dear Mr. Goodell:

I was disturbed to learn that there is a potential bid by Rush Limbaugh to buy the St. Louis Rams and I would like to request a meeting with you to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why he should not be given an opportunity to do so.

Rush Limbaugh has been divisive and anti-NFL on several occasions with comments about NFL Players including Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb and his recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing (New York Daily News, October 9th).

I commend the executive director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith for publicly asking that the League seek to unify not divide in a letter to the executive committee. Mr. Smith courageously implored that the league reject divisiveness, and we, at National Action Network, and countless people across the country, strongly echo his sentiments.

I look forward to hearing from you to set up a meeting in the near future.

In Progress,
Reverend Al Sharpton
President, National Action Network

Al Sharpton did not write this letter. He is not literate enough to do so. His racist and bigotry needs to be the reason no one takes him serious. I don't believe the letter should even be answered.

Talk about racism and self-righteousness .......... Mr. Goodell - Please scontinue down the path that you have set for the NFL!

Why is Sharpton involved in this at all? It is none of is business as he is not a player or a owner. He is a fan and the most racist of them all imo.

I just finished reading an article about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton joining the cause to keep Rush Limbaugh from purchasing the Rams. They say that Rush shouldn’t own a team because he is a white extremist. …………………… Sorry, I had to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard. How do two of the most prejudiced NAACP loving African whoremongers think they have the right to play the race card? Hey y’all, cain’t none of them NAACP members own anything that has crackers workin’ for ‘em. They’s for colored peoples only. So’s bein’ fo colored peoples only, theys be prejudest too. So iffen Rush cain’t be fer whities and own a team, then no NAACP members should own anything either.
Sorry, I started thinking like a prejudice person for a minute. I suppose when Rush stated that a lot of people want to see a black Quarterback win a national championship, it was as stupid as saying a lot of folks would like to see a black president. Wouldn’t that be funny!??? Get past your narrow minded one sided outlook on America. We have butt holes from each color that can’t get past the division that separated this country in the pre 60’s. They will all be dead in 20 years, and if they don’t raise another generation thinking like their own bigoted selves, this country will unite as citizens of the United States of America. I suppose it would be just fine to them if Chicago’s famous Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr purchase the Cubs. Pardon me, that would advance a colored person and that is all they care about. As stated by Rush, why don’t you two get a job and quit sponging off of your brothers. Drop a few of your mistresses and support your illegitimate children through money made by working a 40 hour week. Maybe a little reality would slap you in the face. And please don’t raise your kids to think like you do.

If Mr. Al Sharpton would like to buy the team he should have every opportunity, but seeing that he does not have or is unwilling to split with the capital to make the purchase he should stay out of the business deal. The problem with today’s economy can be laid at the feet of people like him who insisted that everyone be given a chance to own a home and pushing groups like ACORN who has done nothing but hurt the black community by placing people in homes they had no business being in. It is his interference in many issues that have deepened the chasm that divides the people of this country. While I agree with him in some situations, like the severity of the punishment of the Jena, LA thugs and the outright bias that was played there; I wonder how his influence changed things with the boys involved. At some point everyone involved needs to accept FULL responsibility for their crimes and actions. By someone interfering with this process it not only detracts from a person opportunity for growth, it shows others that they too don't need to exercise personal responsibility when the stage for that occurrence is set again. Is he going to rally for the next group of young thugs who beat someone as the first did? Rush's calling out some of the actions of some of today's NFL players is a acceptable call for personal responsibility and anyone who can't practice personal responsibility might not want to play for his team -- the NFL franchise shouldn't want those players who can't practice personal accountability to play either. As for Michael Vick, he has shown his accountability and the team and world need to move on. If it were to happen again then at that time people can talk their trash and M. Vick will need to again practice personal responsibility and face whatever punishment waits. Although I don't think M. Vick will ever do that again, because I believe he is a smart guy who doesn't like what the first time yielded him. He has learned from his mistake. Limbaugh's purchase is a business decision and should be looked as such, unless someone else wants to outbid him and front the capital required to pay for the team -- they should stay out of it!!

Some of the spelling in the comments section above is truly atrocious. I won’t comment on the likely ethnicities of the penmen and their demonstrated respective education levels, however I will comment on what Al Sharpton is saying. To that end, Mr. Sharpton has made a very good point and I support his actions. “To thine own self be true”, an English poet once declared. For Rush to own the team, offend his players in the morning, only to make decision on their lives and that of their families in the afternoon, is a major conflict of interest. Surely money talks in the form of player salaries, however all publicity is not good publicity. In the same vein, all transactions are not good transactions. In addition, during the time the NFL is celebrating different cultures, to entertain a known bigot, is also not being true to itself and its message. Believe me, I know everything always comes down to dollars and cents, we just hope there is more to it all.

Roger,
Tell the bum to go get a job and if he doesn't get off your property you will call the police and have him escorted off. If they refuse to intervine and after several invitations for him to vacate the premises he persists, you should consider it an act of domestic terrorism and you should then exercise your constitutional 2nd amendment rights.
Al Sharpton is a TAPEWORM.

Rush sells bigotry and racism to through his radio program to all that will buy it. Everyone that tunes in to listen, contribute to his $400M salary as well as condone his negative behavior and encourage him to continue his divisive hate filled monologues. NFL players and fans alike erase cultural barriers to enjoy the sport; its a rare oppourtunity that we all share something together and become true Americans.

The question isn't, "Why is Al Sharpton against this deal?" -- The real REAL question is "Why is Al the only person with the courage to stand up and say NO, our country doesn't need this?".

Rush was fired from ESPN for his racist comments and have proven with his radio broadcast that bigotry and predjudice is his forte. He should NOT be allowed to buy his way into one of America's beloved pastimes just to taint it with his nasty divisive perception of who we all are as Americans.

We need more people like Al to stand up for what's right instead of sitting on the sidelines. It's a good time to bring up that old quote that we've all heard a million times; "All that is necessary for the triumph of bigotry is that good people do nothing.

What the heck is going on here? Why can't people like Al Sharpton and Jason Whitlock keep their pie holes shut. Who do they think they are??? This is a fine example why the race card still exists today. People like them just won't let people be people. If a man can buy a football team with his hard earned money,I don't care what his name is......he has the God given right to do so. Get over it.

Posted by: tim wirtz at October 14, 2009 7:31 AM

It is easy for someone to quickily dismiss Al Sharpton's letter as meddling in a purely business decision. Sometimes we should step back and put in some social imagination on issues. If we don't put a human face on capitalism one day a rich bigot or racist could buy off NFL teams and decide on what racial mix he wants in the teams. Possible? YES! Hatemongers are dangerous to the society. They make good outrageous radio and cable TV news but slowly ruin the fabric of our Union by constantly nudging us to fear each other. They come in all skin colors - white, black, brown etc. The news media has to step up and offer more educational and enlightenment programs to our children instead of concentrating on outrageous news materials.

I dont care that much for Mr Sharpton, however he has as much right to interfear with R. Limbaughs buying of the Rams as the judge from MN. who interfeared when he said that the NFL can not suspend the Williams boys for drug misconduct which could destroy the drug abuse policy in the NFL. I don't feel he had that right to interfear either but he did. People stick there noses into different things everyday where they don't belong. One more reason for free speech. One more reason to allow us to express our opinions. Thank you

I usually do not blog but this is a good topic. Its funny to read blogs because people can be racist and hide behind screen names. These are the same people on your job smiling in your face and calling you the N word behind your back. I go through this every day. As for the topic at hand: while I do not like Al Sharpton, (because he thinks he speaks for the entire black race and piggybacks on issues for his own personal gain), I have to agree with him on this one. In a league that is majority black, Rush would not represent the league well as an owner. He is too far extreme. He thinks all black men are crips and bloods or thugs. America will always be racist as long as people's perception of black men are negative. But on the flip side, black men need to take personal accountability to deter people from this horrible stereotype. Because Rush rallies all the racists together with his public antics, you can probably guarantee that the Rams will not have very many blacks on the team and will probably never have a winning season (but what's new about that lol) if Rush becomes an owner. this will in turn deter lots of fans and profits and ticket sales. However, with his strong base of racists, like the ones blogging on this page, he will probably sell out every game. lol... But can you imagine the ass kickin the Rams would get every week from all the mad black players. that would be even more funny! that would be like all all white NBA team... can you say 0-82~!

When it comes to racism , Rush Limbo has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt where he stands . Any person who agrees with his point of views , CLEARLY has proven that they also are racist . NO-ONE can judge another person but , we can make informed decisions as to who and what we will align ourselves with . As for me and my house , we will follow the dictates of OUR FATHER , who says that LOVE is the key , not Hatred , Rush and company !!!!

Posted by: Joe at October 14, 2009 8:51 AM

This is absolutely insane. We have a FORMER Rams player commenting on whether Rush should be allowed to buy a team he doesn't play for, and is commenting based solely on the information gleaned from reading comments in a liberal-dominated print media?

Al Sharpton, race-baiter extraordinaire, is out on the trail to block Rush's purchase based on...what? Oh, that he made disparaging comments about NFL players. He shouldn't be allowed to own a team because he made disparaging comments. Where was Sharpton when Obama was running for Pres.? What about Harry Reid? What about every addle-brained politician who made disparaging comments about our military? Why wasn't Race-Baiting Al out there trying to prevent those liberals from achieving a LEADERSHIP position that directly affects the LIVES of those people they made disparaging comments about? The double standards are mind-numbing...When is the American public going to WAKE UP???

Posted by: thisisridiculous at October 14, 2009 9:03 AM

Why is Rush to blame, What he is saying on the radio is true, I guess Jesse and Al can't handle the truth. The two preachers should be happy that Rush is going to employ the black man. Can't you see, there are very wealthy black sports figures out there. If he were anti black, why would he buy a team that is mostly black? The rev's can't handle the truth, bottom line.I wish Rush was president, Can you Al lover's imagine that?

What we need to do is focus on things that are more important in life..... Things like our children, our health, but most of all our relationship with GOD. People like Rush Limbaugh should be the least of our worries, GOD will take care him, and all those who hate black or white people. Remember that we all were created equal, and in GOD'S eyes....... we are all one color.

What has happened to freedom of speech? Al Sharpton uses it everyday of his life to bash people. Rush usses it everyday on the air. We use it everyday in our lives. Al has every right to speak his mind. So does Rush....So do we. Its a freedom we use everyday. So a very few of the players say they wont play for a rush owned team...so what? they dont have to. Most of them dont play for morals or standards but for the only color they believe in...Green (cold hard cash). Let Rush have his team (if he wins the bid) and let the players who want to play for him play. This is a free market economy. We should be able to buy and sell what we want, not be told we can't. If he puts up the money and wins the bid, good for him. But if people use their freedom of speech to bash him and force the NFL to not let him buy it is a blow to this great country and its free market forum. Whats next? you gonna tell me what kind of shoes and pants i can buy. Lighten up and see what the true Biggots in this country are the ones deviding us and pulling us down. Keep freedom free.

You people are asking "why is it Al's business" and l will tell you Rush Limbaugh lovers why.
B/C Al Sharpton represents a people who make up 60% of the NFL while you have a racist radio personality who wants to be part owner of a majority black ST. Louis Rams?? lt's like Ordering a pizza and hating all the toppings. You can't do that people!!!

Posted by: isaidit at October 14, 2009 9:23 AM

First...Al Sharpton is an absolute joke. Secondly, in reply to C. Miller's post about god being in control. That's another joke. We are in a world of crap if god is controling what's going on in the world. God is either in control and has quite the sense of humor, or god has never been in control. I think the latter is more correct.

I'm so sick of this. I'm afraid that we now live in 'Black America', soon to be shared with the Latino. It's a great time to be a minority in this country. They can do no wrong. The problem sinks much deeper than the NFL...it go's to Washington, where the white politician is. Roger Goodell is a prime example of this, even though he's not in Washington...yet. Goodell doesn't seem to be very intelligent and kinda of punk too. Why is it that the powerful white man is always defending the minority? Hmmmm...

Posted by: Randy at October 14, 2009 9:28 AM

I personally don't watch sports anymore as so many of the players do seem to be thugs looking for some place to display their aggression without it landing them in jail. And when they start murdering their pregnant girlfriends and helpless dogs and raping hotel maids, then it is time to stop rewarding them. They don't have to be black, ( I have never seen Michael Jordan's name on a police blotter) they just have to have bad character, and Rush seems to be the only public person willing to call them as he sees them. Well, maybe Bill O'reilly. And the rest of you pro-black at any cost losers should man-up and get over yourselves

Posted by: Linda Rogers at October 14, 2009 9:34 AM

Just so we get a few FACTS out there. Do all of you know who Bo Snerdley (sp) is? He is Rush's #1 producer and confidant on his radio show. Guess what? Bo is black. Been with Rush for many, many years. Guess what also? One of Rush's good friends and a person he admires greatly is Clarence Thomas. Yes, that Clarence Thomas. Second black Supreme Court Justice. So if Rush is such a bigot and racist please explain Bo and Clarence to me. Does he say stupid things? Yes but it doesn't mean he is racist or bigoted. Please put context around your thoughts about
Rush. Listen to his show sometime and see if you still think he is such a demon.

Posted by: bill at October 14, 2009 9:38 AM

Rush is possibly the worst right wing entertainer/commentator in the history of mass media.

That being said he has the right to buy anything he wants to. In fact I want him to buy the team! I want him to spend a LOT of money and I will enjoy it when the players say, "No way am I working for that ass," and the Rams will lose again and again and again and Rush will be forced to sell at a huge loss. The thought of Rush losing A LOT of money really brings a smile to my face! And of course it will all be the black guys' fault...

Posted by: JHJinTN at October 14, 2009 9:45 AM

I didn't know that. But you know, you can't reason with these people. They're not articulate enough. They can't circumnavigate their lives at all. And they are always right no matter what intelligent argument you present.

Posted by: Randy: a response to 'bill' at October 14, 2009 9:48 AM

I can't believe Sharpton is not trying to get rid of some of the other owners he doesn't like. Isn't he the official Judge and Jury? I'd prefer to have all our teams own by an American instead of outsourcing owners. Every time we take a chuck out of the racial barrier walls Al Sharpton steps in to patch it. He has to becuase without racism he'd be out of a job.

Posted by: EonFlux at October 14, 2009 9:55 AM

If a few players dont want to play for him, who cares. There are hundreds of others that would. If the price is right many of the "few" would play for him. Its about greed and green, not morality. And Al SHarpton is a cockroach that should be in a roach hotel (Maybe one he owns). lol

Posted by: woody at October 14, 2009 9:59 AM

I have listened to Rush off and on since the late 80's. He is not a racest or a biggot. He has spoken his mind about the race issue (as do we all). He had made comments that others only think and he gets blasted for it. He had the balls to say what most think. Although I do tend to disagree with him he has the right to say whats on his mind. As does Cockroach Al. I agree with a previous statement: If we had no racial devide, Al would be without a job. LOL

Posted by: woody at October 14, 2009 10:05 AM

For almost 20 years Rush Limbaugh has held a captive audience of Po' White Trash, Right Wing Bigots, and the Completely Mindless who can't think for themselves "ditto heads" as he fondly calls them. He makes it his life's work to criticize every Democratic freely elected official, starting with the President, about anything and everythjing that the American people put into place that HE doesn't like or support. He is an overweight, pill popping, lying buffoon whose day of consequences for his loud mouth antics is coming. This is just the beginning. It's the same as when you have a child that keeps doing something bad and he gets away with it for so long that he thinks that this is the way to get what you want in life. Is the child bad? Is it the child's fault that now that the whipping is coming that they think they should be let off the hook? The child is not bad; it has been let loose to carry on anyway they can to get what they want, until the parent steps into the picture, whips its ASS, then straightens the kid out to the way things are and what it takes to be a good man or woman in society, and what it takes to be successful without hurting other people.
Rush Limbaugh is like that child. He has been getting away with being an idiot with a microphone for so long, he will not begin to even fathom where the forces against him are coming from. The ass whipping is about to begin Rush! Bend over and take it like a man!!!!!!!

Rush has taken and told the truth about this country for years. He even was outspoken against the policies of the republicans that he felt was'nt best for this country. Yes, they are HIS opinions, but millions and millions of people agree with him everyday. Alot of them are business owners, politiacal people, people from ALL walks of life (Not just po0white people as you say). These people are the ones who have there eyes opened eveyday to the things the left wing media try to push on us. If you had your own radio show it would be YOUR opionions and hopefull no-one would be trying to silence you.

Everyone does not have the right to buy a sports franchise, hence the review process. One needs both to have the capital, and be an acceptable steward of the franchise, since these organizations affect a great many people. Al Sharpton, whether thought of as maligned or malicious, has every right to voice his opinion as the many people have in this forum. Mr. Limbaugh is in fact divisive, as is evident by the above posts. It is doubtful Mr Goodell will invite this kind of publicity further, considering what is already being said.

"Blackbiz:" You have quite the nerve commenting on someone else's spelling. Referring to your second sentence, the word "however" should be capitalized with a comma directly after, and begins an entirely new sentence. Furthermore, the spelling in another person's paragraph of which you refer to as "atrocious", was intentional. It must be hell being that stupid.

If all you SOB's don't like Rush using his freedom of speach then change the Dang Station!! People are saying the players don't want to work for him because of what THEY think he stands for. Well guess what it's no different than the company you are working for getting bought out by someone you may not like! If they don't like it FIND ANOTHER JOB!!!! And NO AL F ing Sharpton has no business getting involve... he is just trying to keep the white race down now!!!

Sharpton thinks he is entitled to everything...he may try and actually listen to Rush's show. He is not racist: "When wild, paranoid leftists attack they see not dead people, but racists. Everywhere. In everything. Always. The instance at hand, Patterico filets a rather amusing paranoid rant from the Left complaining about the Raaaaaacism..." Tammy Bruce

Al Sharpton sees racism everywhere, especially when called out on bad behavior.

He won't be able to recruit the best athletes, so he'll get his ass kicked and be the butt of the NFL for at least a few years until he quits. It will be great! And of course, we can listen to him blame it all on the "Liberal Media". One thing that we do know about Rush is, he's predictable. I think I'm on to something here folks! Add two more singular words that start with a "N" and a "Y" and place them in the order listed and "National Action Network" can have the acronym "NANNY" !

Which would fit your personality perfectly !

Sincerely,

Al Sharpton has elevated interfering in business transactions to an art form and paralyed that into a lucrative career.

Mr. Tibbs you also need to lay off the mainstream, liberal media, too many one-liners there, and actually listen to Rush's show. Rush wants Socialism to fail, Obama is a socialist. SOOOO YES we want Obama TO FAIL....Most liberals haven't a clue what Socialism means and how their thinking stems from Socialisam... SOOOO they default to we are all just racists, blah, blah, blah...

To: JHJINTN:
In your scenario, genius, it WOULD be their fault!

If y'all were an owner, and your players conspired to lose, what action would you take?

If y'all were an owner ,how anxious would you be to hire a player who had been involved in such a conspiracy?

All NFL teams want to win. To do so one must get the best players available. That selection is necessarily based on ability; nothing else.

If eighty percent of the players in the NFL are black, it is because they are perceived by the hierarchy of their teams to be more talented than the applicants who were rejected.

If one could win only with green, or polka-dot players, the league would be flooded with them.

The criminal game of, "If you don't let me control you, I will call you a racist and that will motivate people to penalize you economically", as played by Sharpton, Jackson, et al, is extortion. Such persons should be rejected out of hand and publicly exposed for what they are; robbers without guns.

Virtue and talent are not delimited by ethnicity;
but by one's use of the gifts God makes to him, as an individual.

The big question underlying any NFL game is, "Can the players, (from wherever), employed by that team defeat the the players,(from wherever), hired by the other team"?

And the proper answer is, "Who cares?"

It is so upsetting when you hear people still spouting hatred when all we talk about in the news his blacks, whites, hispanics and others, killing and hating around the world. When do we as a people stand up and say enough is enough and turn a deaf ear to hatred being spewed by anyone. If you are educated in the least bit, you should be smart enough to know, that hatred of any kind is ignorant. I have heard Rush talk on his show and he is devisive. I have heard Sharpton speak on his, and while he speaks as a voice for African Americans he is not divisive. Before making any type of judgement be learned enough to truly listen for yourself, to a complete radio show of both, and make an honest intelligent decision of who speaks hatred and who speakes of unity. Try reading and hearing for yourself and not allowing others to tell you what they have heard. " A man or woman who educates him or herself is truly enlightening to the world and to themeselves" (Mia S.).

Here we have a politican who is under investagation--- again, for illegal and dishonesty attempting to block a citizen from investing his money. Is there no end to what these political crooks will go to? The whole thing is unbelieveable. If the players are uncomfortable with playing for Limbaugh, they can sign to play somewhere else. My bet is that Limbaugh will make this a winning and profitable franchise.

Will Rush get the team? who know's, But Al, Jesse and follower's, put your effort to more suitable causes. You have what you want in your President, a control freak, using his race for the office. Now the white man who has an opinion, with a job that allow's him him to voice it, can't persue a dream of owning a football team, because Al and Jesse don't like it, "WOW" if that work's let's get them to rid taxes and employ the country with work for everyone. Rush only say's what he see's in people and how they act. If you think what Rush has to say is bad, maybe the truth hurt's or they just don't want the truth to be known about each other.Just look what is happening in sports with all of the money these player's are making, and Rush only call's it when it is on the new's and in the street's. Al and Jesse get some money from your follower's to help with the crime... So Rush will contribute by employment...

Mia, gently, you are myopic.
Sharpton's fierce, greedy, dishonest, deceptive verbal filth is among the worst in recorded history.

Posted by: white tiger at October 14, 2009 10:43 AM

As far as Rush is concerned it doesn't matter if he is racist or not, the black community beleives he is. The same goes for Al Sharpton, the white community believes he is the racist. The NFL has to decide if the sale would hurt the NFL. As far as Al and the Jena 5 if the situation were reversed and it was 5 white guys beating a black he would have been screaming for hate crime prosecution and would have gotten it. Where was his voice for justice on that? He doesn't want justice he wants revenge for crimes committed against blacks in history and takes any opportunity to act out for that goal.

Posted by: bill Wichita kansas at October 14, 2009 10:46 AM

Rush Limbaugh is a racist ba----d,plain and simple. He's probably been trying to figure out for years how he can turn the clock back, and "buy and own" a black man, like his ancestors did. Piece of s--t.

Dear Reverend Al Sharpton,

You sure complain a lot !

You don't seem happy !

People that are on the Lord's side are generally happy !

Perhaps it's because you aren't doing what the Lord would have you do !

With the title Reverend in front of your name
you'd think that you'd be all consumed with doing the Lord's work and not worry about the temporary
earthly things like the NFL and who might buy an NFL team !

Perhaps you have lost sight of the Lord's work and his command to love even your enemies and be
in the world and but not of the world!

Perhaps this has something to do with Rush Limbaugh being a white man more than it does
with a few comments he made on his program , which BTW is his job to make comments about current events ....

Perhaps the racist beam is in your eye instead of Rush limbaugh's !

Perhaps if you removed that beam you could see more clearly to remove the mote that might be in Rush limbaugh's eye !

Sincerely,

RTM

Why in the world we care what Al Sharpton says is beyond me and many others in this country. He has said far worse than Rush Limbaugh has ever said to divide this country racially. It is getting absolutely ridiculous that everything we say has to be politically correct as defined by the Liberal Biased Press we have today, give us normal everyday citizens a break and shut people like Reverend Al up. He is only promoting himself and his agenda. All people black and white will have some racial thoughts about other people, same goes for diffrences in men and women, Japanese and Korean, short people and tall people. Being part of the laws of nature doesn't make you a screaming racist, it means you are normal. Rush is normal, be it a little more out spoken than many, but he is just like the rest of us, maybe a tad smarted then the REV but normal none the less. He will treat his players and the game of football as good as anyone else and probably better than most, he understands the concept of hard work. You don't have to agree with someone to work for them or do bussiness with them.

Why would you?

Posted by: tony at October 14, 2009 11:00 AM

Sharpton and Jackson NEED to keep the race issue alive or they'd be out of their jobs. What would they do for jobs and money if we all lived together in happy unity? Every time things in this country start to ballance out, the 'stir-up-the-race-issue' Black "leaders" find a reason and a way to keep things hot and tense. Even when there is no race issue in a given story like the one about who owns which NFL team, they find a way to get people excited and anxious. Sharpton just LOVES to get people going. It's what he does. It's who he is. He needs to be ignored more than anything. He and his kind are truly the most racist folks in this great land. Ignore him. He isn't worth the time or energy to pay attention to.

Let Rush be, In the USA we have freedom of speech, to not let a human being buy a sports franchise because he has said things that just made sense or were said in the way he had seen them, I myself beleive the same way. Our football teams are becoming very gangster like, that is of all kind. So let the man and his investors buy what they want, free enterprise. Remember we have ganster rapsters making music and getting paid for what they say, recording artists saying racist things on recordings, were is Al and Jesse for that verbal abuse to man kind? I guess Rush can get into the heads of Al,Jesse and other's, mostly sports figure's. Go Rush, make them think..

Posted by: MARK (kuks) at October 14, 2009 11:01 AM

Iam not a fan of Rush, yet, this (allegedly)is a free country. If he were to buy the team
he would also have to live by the standards setforth by the NFL. Why dont Rev Al and Jackson
concentrate on the outrageous incidents of black on black crime? The single parent households, primarily female, the high incident of abortion and aids in the black community - but then Rev Jackson is part of that statistic - right? They duck when someone holds the mirror in front of them. Come on people!!!

Posted by: norm wilson at October 14, 2009 11:02 AM

It's certainly amusing reading all the 'Racist Rush' comments from people that obviously have never even listened to a single broadcast. They apparently get all their information from the REV. Sharptons and Jacksons of the world (who probably HAVE listened, just choose to make up their own versions to suit their personal advancements!) You people should actually tune in for a few minutes sometime and actually try to make an INFORMED, independent opinion. Naw, that would require an open mind which is seriously lacking. Hmmm, guess that makes all of YOU the racists.

BTW, it's a freakin' FOOTBALL team, not the United Nations presidency!!!! Get a life! (and for anyone getting their spell checkers out.....KMA)

Posted by: dkintampa at October 14, 2009 11:03 AM

And by the way, if a current NFL owner said anything remotely resembling what Limbaugh said about McNabb, the entire league would be up in arms. I guess that's an atmosphere you're fine with having? Knock yourselves out.

lol @ a comment that not wanting to listen to Limbaugh's show makes someone a racist. Buy a clue, kid, or at least a dictionary.

Posted by: tony at October 14, 2009 11:06 AM

Sharpton & Jackson are 2 of the biggest blowhards in the land. Limbaugh is in that catogory as well which is why it makes good sense that these 2 bafoons would go after him. The 3 of them are peas in a pod. Each 1 beating a drum stiring the pot & reaping the rewards of the mayhem they promote. These guys are all right out of a comic book & anyone of them could easily change course (if they so chose) and promote or attack anything from colonizing gay whales to tax credits for the stupid. They all 3 have the holier then now illusion which they use very effectively to push or shove down americans throats whatever flavor of the day they chose. We should all care less if anyone of these pied pipers buys an nfl team or any other material item. It would be just another trophy on the case. Living prove that this still is a great country anyone with a big enough mouthpiece can still take on the cause and hit the jackpot. Props to these 3 clowns! PT. Barnum was so right about the number of suckers or chumps born every second & the likes of these 3 eagerly waiting to bring them into their flock.

Al Sharpton is 100% Racist, 100% Wrong, and it's time someone took this 100% phony "Christian" to task. He has no right to even comment on Rush Limbaugh, or anyone else for that matter. This is America, and anyone who has a desire to own a team should have that right. The laws we have in place support that, unless the clowns in the law department have ruined it. The thing that I don't understand is if it were mostly white people playing football- Goofball Sharpton and Jackson would be all over it, wanting more blacks because it is racism. They are both clowns and should stay out of it. Can the NFL get any wackier than what it is already

Posted by: Anonymous at October 14, 2009 11:19 AM

All of you who are calling Rush a racist need to actually LISTEN to his program instead of just parrotting what everyone else says. Although I don't agree with everything he says, Limbaugh does say what he believes. Just because what he says you may not agree with does not mean he is a racist. Why is it always the far left that screams racism when something is said that they don't agree with, but it's ok when they do the same thing to the other direction.

And as for the players on the Rams team who won't play for him if he gets the team.......if you're such a great player, I'm sure you'll get pick ed up by another team, so just quit.

This country has turned into a bunch of crybaby whiners. We need to turn it around.

Posted by: Egghead at October 14, 2009 11:25 AM

This is specifically for "Tony" who wants us "to put up or shut up". Remember Bernhard Goetz? A law-abiding white man who, while riding the subway was accosted by 4 (count them) four black men who attempted to violently rob him. But to the sorrow of the four criminals, Goetz had a gun. And as is his right, he defended himself. ALong comes the wonderful Rev. Al Sharpton, and what is the first thing out of his mouth? RACISM!!!!! Those poor black men were the victims, according to the extremely RACIST Rev. Al Sharpton. Go back and read the story for yourself "Tony", for you are obviously either too young to remember it, or just too stupid to admit it. Now "Tony" it's time for idiots like you to "Shut Up".

Posted by: Al at October 14, 2009 11:30 AM

Both reverands need to go back from where they came from and leave the real world alone. Both reverends do nothing but for the black people. They are as racist as it gets. I bet they both voted for the present President and I bet they voted for him because he is BLACK. Not a lot of intellengence there at all.....

Posted by: Mr. Womack at October 14, 2009 11:42 AM

OK people, let's get a grip. This is football. If Rush buys a team and the players quit--will it matter at all in the grand scheme of things? I don't think so. However, he does have the right to buy the team if he wants to and his bid is accepted. Race issues really don't play a part in it and it's time we all stopped using every single event to bring them up.

Posted by: Bon at October 14, 2009 11:43 AM

"This country has turned into a bunch of crybaby whiners. We need to turn it around." Well that's an interesting observation. Let's see...who do you think might be able to turn things around for us? No wait, let me guess... Rush Limbaugh, Sara Palin and I'm sure you'd want to include Dick Chaney! Now there's the answer! We should be able to kick ass and take names with those guys! We should be able to "take our country back!" and get back to the way things used to be! LOL!!!!!!

Wow, let me think about this a min.Ok that was long enough. NAACP are racist against whites and blacks let me explain. About 2 yrs. ago the Prez. from the NAACP from Philly said that Donovan Mcnab was acting like white quarterback becuase he didn't want to run with the ball and that he should act more black. Y, BECAUSE U COULD UNDERSTAND HIM. These people are a bunch of bigots, haters, racist, low lifes, scum, garbage, losers, because they can't afford to buy the team and all they do is act like BOTTOM FEEDERS anythime a black man dies by a white man or by a latin or anyone thats not black. They come out of the walls like MOLD, AL sHAP, WHAT A JOKE AND LET ME NOT BRING UP THE OTHER MORRON jackson...peace

Posted by: AJ barros at October 14, 2009 11:50 AM

Posted by: LHATS 2009 at October 14, 2009 11:51 AM

Why is this a black or white issue ? If someone in AMERICA has the money to purchase something; it's NOBODIES business to keep the transaction from taking place. Al Sharpton and others represent a minute portion of African Amercians whose only sole purpose is to KEEP the HATE flowing, and that's not only sad; it's not what Jesus ever preached. So Reverend Sharpton and others are proving WHAT in America ???? Prejudice is indeed alive and well in St.Louis-in Missouri-and the other 49 states in case you've not looked lately. And that includes racist feelings on BOTH sides of the issue. African-Americans and Caucasians will never get along until EVERYONE stops the hate-and that doesn't look like that's gonna happen in anyones lifetime. So what if someone says something the other race doesn't like-you can't tell me that Blacks don't call each other the N word daily ? Bigots come in all colors shapes and idealogy. How 'bout a little love instead ?

Posted by: ohnonothimagain at October 14, 2009 12:03 PM

WOW!!!I have read all the remarks and most of you should be ashamed of yourselves. This country will always be in the trouble it is now experiencing as long as folks like yourselves view people in the context as you seem to be doing. What ever happened to let's get all this racial stuff behind us and make this the greatest country in the world again. Also, you folks need to take Rush with a grain of salt. He makes outlandish statements to get your attention, then he states the meat of the comment for you to listen intently too. Rush will give you all the info that the press and most politicians don't want you to know, so cut him some slack. If he should win the bid for the Rams, I will bet he rewards the players that work hard and produces, and fire the ones that don't. Let get it together folks.

I listened to his show once on accident not knowing who he was, and found he was right more often than not. Before that, I hated him without even listening to him. I am convinced that anyone who hates him simply judges him based upon the out-of-context quotes or misquotes they have heard.

I'm so tired of the race card being pulled, this is why as a society we are fail. This is a bussiness deal that is between Rush and the NFL, other people have the right to comment on the situation but shouldn't have the right to interfere. After what I've seen and heard I can only shake my head in shame, it seems that we are doomed to never get along do to racial lines.

Posted by: alaray at October 14, 2009 12:22 PM

It is sadly laughable to read some of these posts, especially the one from Blackbiz that insinuates many of the comments in favor of Rush buying the Rams are from backward red-necks who can't spell so they are obviously racist.
It is actually people like Al Sharpton who keep the race baiting and distrust alive as he constantly puts himself in the middle of issues that have nothing to do with him and try to make them all about race-this is what keeps the money rolling into his so called "non-profit" entities!! What a joke. I would suggest that half of the people who have posted comments calling Rush a racist and bigot have never really bothered to listen to his show at all and have formed their opinion of him based soley on what they hear in the media. Since when is it a problem for anyone to buy a business or a franchise with their own hard earned money and since when is it a crime to state the obvious about the current state of affairs on some NFL teams with players that are convicted felons and players who think they are above the law- "DUI's, assaults etc." I think it could only be a good thing to have an NFL team owner who would expect his players to play by the rules of society, be productive members of society, and to get over themselves and their childish and sometimes criminal behaviors. I wholly support Rush's effort to buy this franchise and will become a Rams fan if he does!!

Posted by: cliff at October 14, 2009 8:35 AM

It's funny to read what the above person wrote about NO ONE CAN JUDGE ANOTHER PERSON and he turns right around and judges people who agree with some of Rush Limbaugh's thinking. Rush has just as much God given rights as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson - at least he works for a living !!

Look at Sharpton's ankles. He still wears chains. He is a racist. So is Jackson. Poverty pimps who prey upon blacks for money. Black America needs to wake up. You are being used by liberal, white Democrats as pawns to further government power and dependency. Only you can change this. How very very sad.

I am not a racist: and I am an independent business man. I reject Rush Limbaugh because he incites people and says thing that are racist and inflammatory. I reject his attacks against the President of the United States. I despise his sublime jabs at people of color. I don't want that kind of scum owning anything like an NFL team. Those teams have many kinds of fans; and to say that the owner is a bigoted, hateful, substance abuser who has made divisive comments about the league before is a slap in the face of hardworking, honest, racially diverse, and decent Americans. Send that slime Rush away...anywhere but America.

Posted by: Chris at October 14, 2009 1:50 PM

As a black American and as someone who rarely even watches the NFL (simply not very interested in football since high school) I would like to tell Al to "Shut up and mind his own business." This is still America and if you want to bid, then bid - if not, leave it alone. He wants to influence the bid process without involving any of his own money and that is cheap and cynical if nothing else.

When is the last time anybody watched or didn't watch an NFL game based on who the owners of the teams were versus whho the team players were? The very fact that Rush Limbaugh wants to own this team benefits black Americans in at least two ways (for Rev. Al's narrow-minded focus:) 1. millions of more people might just tune in to watch a game considering the controversity causing higher ratings and giving advertisers (many of whom ar black or employ blacks) to make more money. 2. All of the business generated in St Louis by this team goes away if the team goes away affecting black business revenue and black employees of any and all businesses in the area.

Rev. Al, part your hair in the middle and get yourself a pair of big shoes so that at least you'll look like the clown you obviously are.

Thank you for your time from two of the biggest haters in the U.S.

Most of you people can not seriously sit here and call Al Sharpton a racist and Rush a person who just speaks his mind? Now I'm not going to sit here and say I agree with Al, because I don't really like him either. I used to live in palmdale when that whole Jena six thing happened and then something happened out by us, and Al Sharpton wanted to come out and demonstrate, but we all begged him not to. But it just astonishes me that you can call one a racist and not the other. So, you're telling me that Rush calls the players crips and bloods without the weapons, it's speaking his mind, but Sharpton stands up for black people and he is being racist to white people? I do not like Rush and I do not like Al, but I'm just upset that so many people can call one a racist and not the other. They are just two extremes sitting on opposite sides of the fence. So, I have been a Ram fan for a pretty long time and I am still standing by them even though they are sucking right now, but I will drop my team in a heartbeat if Rush buys them. I'll move to the Vikings if I have to. Better an indecisive idiot, than a racist any day.

How long is the "BUSINESS" of racism going to allowed in this country. We are all equal according to our Constitution. Racism promoters like Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson need to get REAL jobs & give up making their living from promoting their outdated agendas. Maybe they could actually practice what they preach & stop being so predjudiced against everything. I guess it's hard for them to admit that their gig is over.

You Mr. A. Sharpton and Reverand J. Jackson haters, you wish you had an ounce of love, wisdom, security, assurance, compassion, and truth either one of these men have. You couldn't stand up to these two and debate anything with them. There is nothing prejudice about them.
When Rush (yuk)Limbaugh barks, he speaks of death, ill will and harm,, then he tries and make since out of what he ranted on about. I repeat attempt to try and clean up the mess he makes. Only to put his feet in it everytime., (off the subject I bet he and Shawn Hannity's feet are awfully small). Take a look in the mirror you haters keep an open mind and listen sometime to what, Rush the deceiver, is trying to do to L.A's
future. He is toying with one of the financial treasures in our city that is left. Leave that dood to the audience that caters to haters.
KEEP YOUR PAWS OFF THE RAMS, RUSH!

Race is the only card he can play? he himself is actually a racist? what a joke this guy is!! Hes all about anything goes for the black race? if rev.wright (remember him) wanted to buy a team ,sharpton would be A (O K) with it!! Today college and pro football is turning predominately black ? in 7 years are even sooner they will be very few white players playing football at any level? COULD THAT BE IN SHARPTONS VISION? just look at the top 100 players out of high school? JUST ABOUT ALL ARE BLACK? RUSH HAS THE RIGHT IN AMERICA TO BUY A TEAM (even if his views don't get sharptons approval)? HIS MONEY IS JUST AS GOOD AS sharptons!! he has every right!! IF IT WENT TO COURT? RUSH WOULD WIN! SORRY sharpton

CONFLICT OF INTEREST. HOW DOES A RACE-BAITING, HATE-MONGING, RACIST PERSON OWN A TEAM OF THE VERY SAME PEOPLE THAT HE DISRESPECTS, CRITICIZES, DEMEANS, HURTS AND HATES? I'M NOT SO CONCERNED WITH RUSH, AS HE'S SHOWN HIS APPETITE FOR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES, WHICH GOES DIRECTLY AGAINST THE VERY SAME RULES THAT THE NFL HAVE SET FOR THE LEAGUE AND IT'S PLAYERS. WHAT POSITIVE CAN RUSH BRING TO THE TABLE? HOW MANY OF THE PLAYERS WOULD BE OFFENDED BY THE THINGS THAT RUSH STAND FOR? IS HE HELPING US, AS AMERICANS, OR IS HE USING HIS PLATFORM TO DIVIDE US ALL? I DON'T THINK IT IS PERSONAL, I JUST THINK THAT RUSH DOES NOT, AND COULD NOT, REPRESENT THE VERY PEOPLE HE CONTINUES TO BERATE.

I am a white male and I agree, there are so many white people who are angry because we have a black president. It's a shame. I have observed so much closet racism in places and the work place. Rush is a racist and a hate monger and should not be allowed to own an NFL team. Many of my white brothers sadly don't get it.

Posted by: John at October 14, 2009 2:56 PM

Mr Sharpton does not have much room to talk about others. He is getting involved in something he shouldn't be involved in. I am not a proponent of Mr Rush Limbaugh let the league run him through the process.
Sharpton was quoted as saying to an audience at Kean College in 1994 that, “White folks was [sic] in caves while we was building empires.... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.”[65] Sharpton defended his comments by noting that the term "homo" was not homophobic but added that he no longer uses the term.[66] Sharpton has since called for an end to homophobia in the African-American community.[67]

During 2007, Sharpton was accused of bigotry for comments he made on May 7, 2007, concerning presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his religion, Mormonism:

"As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."[68][69]
In response, a representative for Romney told reporters that "bigotry toward anyone because of their beliefs is unacceptable."[70] The Catholic League compared Sharpton to Don Imus, and said that his remarks "should finish his career".[71]

On May 9, during an interview on Paula Zahn NOW, Sharpton said that his views on Mormonism were based on the Mormon Church's traditionally racist views regarding blacks and its interpretation of the so-called "Curse of Ham".[72] On May 10, Sharpton called two apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and apologized to them for his remarks and asked to meet with them.[73] A spokesman for the Church confirmed that Sharpton had called and said that "we appreciate it very much, Rev. Sharpton's call, and we consider the matter closed."[74] He also apologized to "any member of the Mormon church" who was offended by his comments.[74] Later that month, Sharpton went to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he met with Elder M. Russell Ballard, a leader of the Church, and Elder Robert C. Oaks of the Church's Presidency of the Seventy.[75][76

Rush is a racist
Sharpton is a racist
Listening to either fuels only the fire's of evil.
No good will come from either of these people and both IMO have a seat waiting for them in whatever hell they believe in. Sharpton in many ways is much more of a problem than rush, atleast with rush you know what he is thinking, his motives etc. With sharpton he is more tricky and sly like serpent
Yes rush says stuff racist, but atleast he hasn't caused anyone to be killed by inciting racial hate. Sharpton has had several of these and after, although he apologized for saying words that led too violence and someone dying, he was also quick to say it wasn't his words that caused it. Both these people should be removed from having any type of power. Why is it in this day in age we let hate mongering, racist freaks lead us is in the most powerful positions, it's wayyyyyy beyond me

ANOTHER QUESTION. IF RUSH FEELS THE WAY HE SPEAKS ON HIS SHOW CONCERNING BLACK PEOPLE, THEN WHY WOULD HE WANT TO OWN AN NFL TEAM? HELLO SOMEBODY. HAS HE NOT LOOKED AT THE LEAGUE LATELY TO SEE JUST HOW MANY BLACK FOLKS THERE ARE IN THE LEAGUE? COMMON SENSE. WHY DOES HE FEEL LIKE ANYONE OF COLOR WOULD WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH HIM AND HIS NARROW-MINDED VIEWS? DOES HE PLAN ON CRITICIZING AND RIDICULING BLACK PEOPLE ON HIS TALK SHOW IN THE MORNING AND THEN GOING OUT ON THER FIELD IN THE AFTERNOON AND HUGGING ONE OF HIS BLACK PLAYERS? COME ON PEOPLE. IT'S COMICAL. HE SHOULD TRY AND BUY A POLO TEAM. THAT WAY HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE VERY SAME PEOPLE HE SEEMS TO LOATHE. HMMMMM......

Intrested in making as much $ as possible. And there's no better way to do that than stir up some publicity. I wouldn't be surprised if they planned this whole thing out together ahead of time LOL. And all the bigots on both sides fall for it again.

I despise Rush Limbaugh. However,Rev. Al Sharpton, putting his lack of credibility aside, and only viewing his remarks in his letter to the NFL, has given no justifiable cause for anyone to deny Limbaugh wish to purchase ownership of the Rams.

Both the Rams and Limbaugh would benefit from the excitement of the purchase, and the notoriety. However, if he did purchase them, were I a Rams player, I would leave.....Then again, if Sharpton purchased them, I would feel the same way.

There, I feel better and it was cheaper than a counseling session.

To Kevin who likes to write in all caps.
I would like to know which of Rush's views you are talking about when you speak of hate mongering and berating people. You said that Rush is guilty of criticizing, demeaning, disrespecting, hurting and hating the very people that he would have to associate with if he owned an NFL team. I would challenge you to give one example of him doing any of the above with regards to people of any other race. I am pretty sure that you will not be able to do this because I am pretty sure that you have never taken the time to actually listen to what he says on his show. It is funny how quickly people make assumptions based on what they hear on the news. I challenge you Kevin to listen to Rush and then make an informed decision about his views instead of repeating silly descriptions that you hear from others. When Rush criticizes someone or something it is because of what they say or some action that they have taken-not because of the color of their skin. Just ask his side-kick on the show-Bo Snerdly (who happens to be African American) and see if thinks Rush is a racist.

Everybody in America has heard Rush L. He is a modern day Archie Bunker (All In the Family).

The things that comes out of his mouth continually is full of venum and hatred. He is a white racist pig and everybody knows it. If there were any other nationality speaking that way across the air waves about people of other ethnicity on a radio show it would be considered non patriotic.
Caucasions in America think they are superior and whatever they say and do should be exceptable. No
terrorist should be allowed to own an NFL team. He has no respect for himself as a man and no respect for the men that provide entertainment and sportmanship to the world. He should consider owning a terrorist organization since he acts like he is related. Clearly that type of attitude that he demonstrates everyday is behind all of the terrorist attack that modern day America is experiencing. Now you know what its like to have someone hate you enough to destroy you.

To the poster sxyblackengineer. Your comment reminds me that we live in a reverse racist society and growing! First off, the league started out mostly white, since the racial walls came down blacks had opportunity to play, and their abilities (not color) has turned the league to a larger majority of blacks over the years. Capitalism is green and not racist AT ALL! Who in their right mind would think Rush would buy a sports team, and change it to all white despite abilities of many gifted black players? This is crazy talk, he like any other entrepreneur would vote for the best candidate to fill the position, PERIOD! Rush doesn't bag on color in the day, (he is opinionated, yes) but why are we still trying to call opinionated people racist? For the most part he is pretty accurate with his information, and cuts through the media bs that gets filtered or has political agendas. I suppose now I am racist because I defend him... lmao

Posted by: biteme at October 14, 2009 4:22 PM

Reverend Sharpton, if you spend too much time worrying about this business that has nothing to do with you your followers might just start thinking for themselves while your gone. What will you and Jesse Jackson ever do if this happens? You both have created a lavish life by keeping your followers, the black community, powerless and feeling victimized. You thrive on the inability to make their own moves, think for themselves, or act as individuals. Do you really see the community becoming stronger by preaching hate and intolerance rather than hard work and perseverence. I am not sure who you should focus on here buddy, Rush Limbaugh or yourself.

And He's not a Racist. Al Sharpton Is a Racist He causes division by stirring up untruths about Rush and other conservative leaders and in my opinion has no right to stop Rush from aquiring the Rams. This is Still the land of the free last I checked and regardless if you believe Rush is a racist or not No one has the "right" to keep you or Me or Rush or anyone from doing a legal american transaction like this one. You can protest if you want thats your right and Al's right but to stick your nose in it and try to meddle in something that has nothing to do with you is wrong. Maybe some of you should listen and I mean Listen to Rush not hear what you want to hear because anyone can take his words out of context. If you Listen you will see that Rush is not a racist and thats coming from some one who is in a minority.

Isn't this the same Al Sharpton who condemned a group of white people for raping a young black girl and writing obscenities on her body before it later came out that she had lied about the whole thing?

We live in a free country. We have the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This is all Rush is doing. He has a tremendous love for sports, and football in particular. His views can never be hidden unlike the majority of Americans, because the words he's expressed have been documented over the past 21 years. Rush is not a racist. He believes in personal responsibility as we all should. He is not divisive in that he does not speak untruths to make his point. It seems like most of the arguments calling him a racist and divisive are by people who many would considered to be divisive themselves. Divisiveness should not be relevant in this situation because Rush has the right to his personal views as we all should. Should all the owner's fill out a survey as to their beliefs and should we void their ownership because we don't agree with them? This is ridiculous. Do we really want the thought police out in force. I am sure that Rush does not wish ill will on anyone just because they're not a white male. He has plenty of respect for athletes of all colors. He has been unfairly targeted by hysterical political opponents or people "assuming that he must be a racist" because of a few words out of billions that may have been considered offensive or derogatory. Let Rush pursue his desires and let liberty prevail.

Listening to Al Sharpton's voacbulary, ("dis, dat doze"), how in the world did this guy ever get to center stage as the official mouth piece for truth and justice? As for his letter, I hardly think he crafted it listening to him talk. Please.... not to mention, who died and left him "King" of the NFL anyway?

I am sick and tired of people bashing Rev Jackson and Rev. Sharpton. What they do is bring ACTUAL events and issues to the fore front (either you agree or not) yet they are attacked for doing so. The basic history of this country has been for "NEGROS" to shut up, not have an opinion and this is CLEARLY the case in this instance. In the ideas of mainstream America, If a black man defends himself or a cause (against the establishment), HE'S a racist. If a whit man does it, he's just speaking his mind.
When someone agrees with Mr Limbaugh, OBVIOUSLY they think like he does and his ideology is ROOTED in bigotry, ignorance and down right stupidity. ONE is CLEARLY racist when one thinks as he does. In other words, people who AREN'T racist, black, white or other, DON'T even HAVE the thoughts he has. WHY are so many people missing this?

Tell Sharpton to mind his own business

Posted by: Raybo at October 14, 2009 5:06 PM

I'm a former NFL Player and I can tell you that R.L. is not what the NFL needs as an owner. I'm quite sure that there are a lot of owners who are republicans and have very strong views based upon their political party, but you will never hear them say anything to divide or tarnish the NFL publicly. On the other hand, R.L. will eventually put his foot in his mouth because of the comments he made in the past and will continue to do so in the future. I'm not a supporter of the pastor-I watched the video of Al Sharpton on the Ed Sullivan show, and I agree with the comments of A.S., and the players who have come out against this. Let's flip this,I'm willing to bet if the Black muslim leader (Louis Farankan) wanted to put his bid in for the right to become an owner, the entire nation of republicans will instantly boycott the NFL. Before some jackass makes a comment about the leader's financial status, it was only a comparison. Let's be honest republicans, you guys are funny! I'm not a supporter of Sharpton or Farankan!

I have never blogged before, but this issue about the Rush, Al, Jesse, and the host of self righteous advocates, for and against, whomever. Need to take a better look at themselves and realize that it really don't matter whether Rush gets his team, or Al and Jesse, or Goodell, blocks his attempt. America's infrastructure, has always been and always will be dominated by the ever present dollar. And the dollar will always generate, greed among the masses. So for Rush, Al, Jesse, Goodell, Scott, Brad, Maurice, Brian, Shauna, Debbie, and everyone else, your only interest in the whole matter, in my opinion is trying to make sure that the sway of power, that money generates, sways in your direction, or in the direction of your race.

Posted by: Cain at October 14, 2009 5:18 PM

The false accusations making Rush out to be a racist is the same tactic being applied to any person who objects to President Obama's policies. While i beleive he's controversial, he's far from a racist. I doubt there would be any objection to a liberal interested in buying a football team. The bottom line is these nutjobs don't agree with Rush's politics, therefore should be denied intrusion into any part of their lives. I'm no fan of Rush, but i do believe he should be given the same opportunity to buy the Rams as anyone with an alternative political view.

Posted by: Greg at October 14, 2009 5:19 PM

I have rarely agreed with this man on his "take" on "events", but I would have to agree with him on this one. Rush Limbaugh has no business owning an NFL team in light of his comments in the past. (...and they are numerous.) I don't think there is any question as to his being prejudiced. This is just another medium to expand his ever-growing ego.

Posted by: Tim at October 14, 2009 5:26 PM

I can tell you that if Rush came to the good rev sharpten with 913 MILLION dollars to buy his so called church...... HE'd take it..... all of the sudden the race card would be no more..

Now as far as racism goes about Rush Limbaugh, it only matters when the whole population of America, and the rest of the world, black, and white, and all the other races in the world fails to acknowledge, the absolute fact that Barack Obama is half caucasion. The man is not a full blooded African American. So it looks like to me that all races in this world, are racist.

Rev. al sharpton is correct about racial rush owning a team, he shouldnt. having an personality with racial overtones should be reason to deny ownership in the NFL, which is majority african-american. its a shame that racial rush needs to demean other races so that he could make money (hey rush get a real hustle about yourself and stop living on your ancestor past there fight is over african-americans are here to stay with pure dominence and they wont be making you a dime:)

Posted by: bridginthagap at October 14, 2009 6:05 PM

Who wrote the introduction and provided their opinion? "Al Sharpton, not surprisingly, has been among the loudest critics of Rush Limbaugh's plan to buy the St. Louis Rams. Below is the full text of his letter to the NFL on this subject, which in my opinion is fairly persuasive, whatever you may think of Sharpton himself:"

Is this reporting or an Editorial content? The letter was written by a fool.
Thanks, FD Ripish, Palm Desert, CA

Calling Rush a racist is like calling Al and Jesse ministers. Get over it. You thinks he is going to lose money by not letting the black players play or what. Have you ever listened to one of Rush's programs or are you making your decisions on hear say and what you see on the news. The news people are afraid to speak the truth fearing being called a racist. Being American used to be something to be proud of. Not sure anymore.

Posted by: David at October 14, 2009 6:10 PM

I think people fail to realize that Rush has a black call screener on the show. I think if he had made to many racist remarks the guy would have left by now. Just way too many haters out there. I say big Al is the racist hatemonger.

Posted by: Ray at October 14, 2009 6:21 PM

Its really quite hilarious that people think this is a black mans or minorities world now. While blacks may have had many opportunities afforded to them (due to an intentional lack of opportunities from the to majority based upon their skin color) regardless they still have to deal with the bigotry, stereotyping, and out right fear that's communicated thru TV, music and society today. Granted I'm quite tired of hearing Al Sharptons mouth on every single issue because it loses it effectiveness every time he hops on an issue. Also know that Al does not speak for every African American. But he raises a good point about Mr Limbaugh and his intentional race bating, divisive speech and fear mongering. Jesse, Al, Rush and Mainstream media are all apart of the same evil machine anyways, we need to stop listening to them all and go out and see for ourselves what the rest of the country and the world lives like, then maybe we can draw our own conclusions instead of playing in the coloring books they've laid out for us...

Posted by: Justathought at October 14, 2009 6:38 PM

The simultaneous ignorance and vile hatred against Limbaugh is not surprising. Most of these bloggers obviously form their parotted, stereotypical opinions about him based upon what they watch in the express lane, self proclaimed "mainstream media". There is nothing mainstream or independent about these factions, and they are intolerant of critical thought. At least Limbaugh is honest about his partisanship.

The reason he is so vehemently castigated is because he is better read/informed than the puppet, talking heads on the cable outlets that tell these people what to think. I can't say I always agree with Limbaugh's policy or narcissism, but at least he does his homework and is mostly entertaining for the shock jock genre.

As for Sharpton, he is nothing but a self promoting, race peddler who's fifteen minutes of fame were over a couple decades ago. He has no credibility. Hopefully, Goodell will pay the proper level of attention to this letter by utilizing it as a hanky.

The over/under for someone calling me a bigot is 3 minutes.

if he does'nt get a team he should add an expansion team..The Florida Dittoheads. I wouldd be a fan and support them. lol. As for Al and Jesse, go find some other race baiting to feed off of. Let the NFL decide what is good for the NFL.

Just one question, For everyone who stated that Al Sharpton's letter to R. Goodell was racist what sentence, paragraph held the racist comment? By the way, if you think Al Sharpton is racist, what do you consider Rush Limbaugh?

I've read some of the posts here and ...... and whew, you white folk are just plain scary. I'm not writing that to provoke a reaction - I'm very serious.
My question is; if the KKK had the money to buy an NFL team should they be allowed to do so? The reason I ask is because the only difference between the KKK and Rush Limbaugh is that the KKK would unapologetically lynch black players in broad daylight and Rush would supply the rope, allow them to do the lynching on his property but, with a wink and a nod, give the excuse he didn’t know what the KKK was going to use the rope and the tree for, but anyone who was lynched deserved it

I strongly echo Mr. Al Shaptons comments and throughly support his efforts. Rush is a bigot and continues to be a divisive figure in the media, always making disparaging comments about black people in general. Why would any intelligent individual support such a person.

Posted by: Gary J at October 16, 2009 3:50 AM

Rash shouldn't be allowed to own anything that has a black man in it. Because he would start thinking he is a slave master. Isn't that the reason he is being so hateful and craving to see time changed like back in the days where blacks were nothing but slaves. He is a danger for this nation. He is neither a politician nor a conservativ christian, he is just a racist crack head.

After reading this story and the comments, we know one thing for sure, "racism is alive and well". We know that racist stand behind something called conservatism( The keeping of traditional ways), Other wise Republicanism. Everything is divided into left and right view points, "meaning", He or she who wants to keep things the same step to the right and he or she who wants change step to the left. When are we going to come together, get rid of all these titles and stand together as the greatest country on earth, indivisible with liberty and justice for all? and most of all, stop supporting bigots?...

Posted by: DARRYL at October 16, 2009 4:17 AM

But can you imagine the ass kickin the Rams would get every week from all the mad black players. that would be even more funny! that would be like all all white NBA team... can you say 0-82~!

Truly a moron.. What a complete, typical, ummm, poor me... Oh, I seem to remember that team idiot! They were the Celtics, not long ago when the NBA was not a ghetto league.

If racism disappeared tomorrow..Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would disappear with it...it's the sole reason for their very existance.
